The Macarthur West u/16’s grand final squad.

Hopefully we’ll see some of them in a few years in the WT’s senior teams.

Tigers’ bid to lock up boom prodigy as rival clubs and codes circle — Transfer Whispers

The Wests Tigers are reportedly aiming to lock up boom young gun Heamasi Makasini after his breakout year in the Harold Matthews Cup this year amid interest from rival clubs and codes.

The Daily Telegraph reported the Tigers are one of several clubs to take notice of the young rising star and are keen to make a move to secure his services.

The Western Suburbs Magpies star has been on fire over the past few weeks scoring 64 points in four games, which included six tries and 20 goals.

Makasini is currently a member of the Under-16s NSW Waratahs team and has represented the Under-16s Australian rugby union side last year.

The Wests Tigers held a meeting with him Makasini on Tuesday with NRL coach Benji Marshall, CEO Shane Richardson, and General Manager of Football Matthew Betsey in attendance.

Makasini was supported by his parents, and his agent Mario Tartak.

“Heamasi is a promising young local junior coming through our system,” Betsey told The Daily Telegraph.

“Richo has been on the record saying we are a development club and we want to continue to connect with all the players coming through the pathways, particularly the talented ones. We do that regularly.

“We are starting to see the Lachlan Galvins come through, the green shoots of our pathways.

“Our pathways has been successful in the last few years and we want our players to understand they’re a part of that success moving forward.”

Makasini is currently at Newington College in Year 11, but his physical presence in attack and defence, football intelligence and skill have him firmly on the NRL’s radar.

He also represented the Under-16s City team last year, bagging a double within two minutes.

It is understood that he has already taken part in several NRL training sessions with the Wests Tigers, with the club hoping he will make his first grade debut within the next 18 months.

Another big haul for Heamasi Makasini today:

Rd4: 1 try, 6/7 goals
Rd5: 2 tries, 6/6 goals
Rd6: 2 tries, 5/7 goals
Rd7: 1 try, 3/5 goals
Rd8: 2 tries, 6/6 goals

Takes him to 8 tries, 26/31 goals in his last 5 games.

9 tries in 7 games for the year.

Not to shabby.

I'm keen to see how Heamasi Makasini plays in tomorrow's Harold Matts side after all the media hype surrounding him.

Makasini 6/6 plus 2 neat pies. Gee I wished the game was televised.
NSWRLTV has highlights of other games so there might be some footage next week.

Wests fall to the unbeaten Roosters 42-16. Tallyn Da Silva a tryscorer.

In all likelihood next week will be a dead rubber for them, so hopefully Miller and L. Laulilii start seeing some Flegg, and Da Silva more Cup.

Willett and Craig joining the growing list of absences today.

Great to see 2023 Wests #SGBall winger Tino Tavana has signed and will start on the wing for #JerseyFlegg today. A super athlete

Tavana had been part of the ACT Brumbies u19s squad at the back end of 2023

Stuff it, they kicked the field goal, all over :(
We were better in second half and coming home strong but stupid errors.
Lobb is a really good goal kicker and scored a good try.

Assuming the Bulldogs win tomorrow, #HMatts will have 3 teams finish unbeaten - Bulldogs, Wests and Parramatta.

The top 3 faced each other twice this season, both draws:

Eels 20 Bulldogs 20
Eels 16 Wests 16

Should be a super finals series.
