whatever....

p.s. there is one camera angle that annoys the sh*t out of me.... its similiar to the one, that Randy Orton used to use in his entrance when he used to climb the turnbuckle.

Decent first show.

All of them definately need work.

Bryan aside, Otunga was the only one who stood out postively. Not in the ring mind you, but on the mic.

Otunga just looked like a fan who had 2 weeks of training.. Like even his entrance just seemed so amateurish with him wearing a hoodie and glasses.. ugh

I think the point of NXT is too have them start off rough as guts and improve.

They want to tell a story.

Anytime I can see American Dragon on TV I am happy. The whole show seemed to revolve around him which was good. He handled the occasion well. He is a cool customer and the largely unscripted mic work with Miz was OK. Jericho sold a few moves for him in the main event which was good. The match only showcased a little of what his got though. That was a nasty bump he took off the suicide drive. I loved how he fired up after it.

Apart from Dragon the show was a letdown. The NXT concept is pretty weak. The futures stars got very little ring time. FCW puts on a better show than that. Put them in against each other and let them go for it.

Barrett look good and was cool when Jericho cut him off but that is to be expected. He does some commentary for FCW and is better than anyone calling the major brands.

I never thought it would be possible to hate Cole more than usual but he managed it. Cringe worthy sh*t right there. Go tell Mark Henry another n****r joke moron.

His entrance is fine just doesn't work when you are coming down to Ron Killings theme. Darren Young would have been a more logical paring for Killings but the CM Punk skit was funny.

Thats the point of the show isn't it :p

Can anyone tell me when its being shown next? Like what time?

Yes but there was a lot of fans on the net proclaiming how Bryan was wasting his time on a show like this when really, he has a few things to work on.

In America, on Wednesday, in Australia on Thursday 3:30pm (NSW's time).

Dragon has very little to work on. Mic skills are not all they are made out to be. The days of The Rock and Austin building a character and being given creative control are over. You are given a script which you perform word for word. It's the writers job now to make him look good on the mic. And it is not that hard a job. They are not working with an intense individual like Benoit or Melanko. Once he joins a major brand that's how it will be. Miz putting him on the spot is unfair because he can't live off his best in the world gimmick. It's tough to throw way 10 years of work and start from nothing.

I just hope they plan of letting him keep a decent moves set. Matches against Regal in the short term and Punk later on will be epic if they let them go unscripted in the ring. Yes writers are scripting matches at present. It's true it's damn true.

I am going to disagree with a lot of the sentiment going around at the moment. If NXT is done right Dragon will be put over. I don't have a problem with him being built up slowly as long as he gets there in the end. He will get a lot of TV time that I can't imagine him getting starting off on Smackdown. It worked for Punk coming through ECW. Hopefully they follow a similar path on this occasion.

The lines weren't the problem, it was his delivery. He stumbled a few times and also got caught looking into the wrong camera.

He just needs to work on those areas. Once he masters them, he'll be ready for the big time (I'd say on Smackdown, he'd be wasted on an environment like Raw.)

i thought it was good.... did anyone notice the potatoes that Miz threw on Daniels... i think there may have been abit of feeling there... i wonder if it went completely to script...

i did see that Vince has said that after this first show Daniels will be a star... which sounds promising.

lets be honest here.... the programs in the WWE are so lame now you really dont have to be too talented to be a success. as long as you can deliver a funny line of a script you should be good to go.

these days the wwe is more a sitcom more than anything else...

The only thing Dragon needs to work on his not laughing during in the promos.

It reminded me of his promo with London about American Dolphin in PWG.

WWE NXT 3/2/2010
By Chris Kelly
Mar 2, 2010 - 11:31:24 PM

Due to illness, I was unable to recap WWE NXT so I got my former Co-host and friend Dave Stephens to do it. I thank him for the following recap

NXT on SyFy
March 2nd 2010
Commentators: Josh Mathews & Michael Cole
Reported by: David Stephens of WrestleView.com</B>

Are you ready? Then stop questioning your heart and join me, because it’s time for WWE NXT on SyFy!

The show kicks off with David Otunga making his entrance as R-Truth does his song and dance on the way to the ring

. NXT’s host, Matt Striker, is in the back and reviews the concept of the show for those who may have missed it last week.

David Otunga w/ PRO R-Truth v. Darren Young w/ PRO CM Punk & Straight Edge Society

Darren Young requested this rematch from last week.
The match starts off with Darren being whipped into the ropes and hit with two consecutive arm drags. He is sent to the mat with a scoop slam, but kicks out of the cover. Young is whipped into the corner, but bounces back into the ring and hits a neckbreaker on Otunga. Young gets on David’s back and locks in a neck hold. The crowd is firmly behind Otunga.

David escapes the hold by lifting Young into the air and dropping him to the mat. He goes for the cover, but Young kicks out. Darren sends Otunga to the apron, then slams his neck against the top rope which sends David to the outside. When Otunga tries to re-enter the ring, Young knocks him once again to the outside.

We come back as Young whips David into the corner. Otunga bounces out and goes for a quick cover. Young kicks out. Darren goes for another neck hold, and then slams Otunga’s head into the turnbuckle. Young goes for a neckbreaker, but Otunga sends him hard to the outside of the ring. Both men get back in the ring. Luke Gallos and R-Truth begin to argue on the outside of the ring. The referees attention is distracted. As Otunga goes to bounce off the ropes, CM Punk coyly grabs his leg. Darren Young capitalizes and secures the victory.

Winner via CM Punk’s Sneakiness: Darren Young

After the match, R-Truth comes into the ring, but Otunga pushes him away.

Video package airs highlighting the pre-WWE career, and personal life, of Daniel Bryan

Video package airs recapping Daniel Bryan v. Chris Jericho from last week on NXT

In the back we see Daniel Bryan with a WWE trainer examining his side. The bruising is a result of last week’s suicide dive crash into the announcing table. The Miz enters and says that last week proved Daniel Bryan is nothing but trash. Miz says that injury or not, he made a match for Daniel Bryan to take on Chris Jericho’s rookie, Wade Barret, tonight. Miz slaps him in the injured side as we head to commercial.

****Commercial****

In the back, Matt Striker is interviewing David Otunga about his match. Otunga complains about the fact that Punk interfered. Matt says that he is going to have to learn to deal with those kinds of things in the WWE. R-Truth enters the room and begins to yell at his rookie. The two begin fighting and have to be broken up by security and referees.
Chris Jericho is on the ramp with his rookie. He puts him over, and then a video package airs highlighting Wade.

Wade Barret w/ PRO Chris Jericho v. Daniel Bryan (Miz does not accompany him)

The match starts with Wade kicking Daniel in the injured side. He continues with shoulder thrusts to the ribs. Wade goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out. A shot in the back shows The Miz & Carlito watching the match. Wade sets Bryan up against the ropes and goes for a splash, but Daniel side steps and Wade crashes to the outside. Bryan leaps off the apron with a huge knee to the outside on Barret! Wade gets back inside the ring, and Daniel heads to the apron once again. He goes for a springboard, but due to his injured side he can’t support himself and crashes to the mat. Wade lifts him high into the air and hits his finisher.

Winner: Wade Barret

After the match, Jericho enters the ring and begins to attack Bryan. He repeatedly kicks him in the side and then puts him in the Walls of Jericho.
Video package airs highlighting the Shawn Michaels/Undertaker feud

****Commercial****

In the back, Christian is training in the gym as Heath comes up to talk to him. Christian warns Slater to not become over confident. Christian says that the cheers were his peeps, Heath still needs to earn that kind of response. Christian says that he likes him, not very much, but he likes him.

We cut to another room where Matt Striker is with Justin Gabriel and Matt Hardy. Justin puts over Hardy as his mentor. Hardy says that Gabriel reminds him of himself at a younger age.
****Commercial****

William Regal & Skip Sheffield v. Matt Hardy & Justin Gabriel

Justin and Skip kick off the matchup. Justin is backed into the corner. Skip backs up and gets hit with a beautiful dropkick. Justin tags in Hardy. Gabriel does a flip as Hardy does an elbow drop on Skip. Hardy tags Gabriel back into the match as he whips Skip into the corner. Justin runs from one corner to the other, leaps off Hardy’s back, and connects with a huge splash!

****Commercial****
We come back as it is William Regal in the ring with Justin Gabriel. Regal hits a beautiful Butterfly Suplex. Regal then locks on an arm bar. The crowd is trying to get behind Gabriel for support. Regal throws Justin to the mat, and actually allows him to tag in Matt Hardy. Regal takes it right to Matt, and knocks him to the outside. Both Gabriel & Matt are on the floor ringside. The referee begins the count.

Hardy slides back into the ring, and Regal wastes no time. He locks him up and then tags in Skip Sheffield. Matt is flat on his back, and Skip hits him with a splash. Skip then grabs the top rope and begins unloading with his boot to Matt’s midsection. Skip tags in Regal. The Brit grabs Hardy and hits a couple of punches. Hardy goes for a backslide, but Regal counters and tags in Sheffield. Regal holds Hardy in the corner which allows Skip to get in some cheap shots.

Skip takes Matt to the middle of the ring and locks on a headlock. Hardy begins to get to his feet and then drops to the mat to counter the hold. Skip tags in Regal. William yells at Skip for “messing around” and letting Hardy get in those couple of shots. Regal backs Hardy into the corner as he continues to yell at his rookie. Hardy finds the fortitude to roll to his corner and tags in Justin Gabriel. Hardy hits the Twist of Fate on William Regal! Justin Gabriel heads to the top turnbuckle and hits an AMAZING 450 Splash. Wow, that looked incredible.

Winners via AMAZING 450 Splash: Justin Gabriel & Matt Hardy

NXT Thoughts
The show started off with a strong rematch from last week. Many complained about Darren Young being squashed by Otunga, but this week he exacted his revenge. The difference maker was CM Punk. Last week, Punk wanted nothing to do with his rookie, or the show. This week, he instructed Luke Gallos to cause a distraction and then grabbed Otunga’s leg. This allowed Darren Young to capitalize and pick up the win.

I’m not too sure how I feel about Otunga starting to feud with R-Truth. It seems forced at the moment. I don’t believe that they have the foundation to really be pissed at each other. I’ll give creative credit for at least trying to keep it interesting and have different dynamics between pros and rookies.
Daniel Bryan v. Wade Barret was pretty much what I would have expected it to be. It was fairly short as they were milking Bryan’s injury. I really liked the fact that Bryan essentially “botched” a move. Yet, it was all a part of telling the story in the ring, and planned. Jericho attacking Bryan only further legitimizes Daniel as a threat. On a side note, what the heck is the name of Wade Barret’s finisher?

I have no idea what Skip Sheffield said in his promo. None.

So let’s talk Justin Gabriel for a second here. I really, really like him so far. He has a great look and was both flashy and effective in the ring tonight. His South African accent is unique in the WWE and helps him stick out. As for the Adam Lambert comparison? Aside from his hair to an extent, and what they are billing as him being “flamboyant”, I really don’t see it. Look, I can make that assessment better than almost anyone because I’m a huge Adam Lambert mark. (Crap, did I just admit that in a wrestling column? I really need to think before I share certain things).

The match was pretty good for what it was. Let’s get right to what is on my mind – 450 Splash. Justin Gabriel pulled off a SICK 450 in the ring tonight. I’ve just never seen it delivered with his fashion of execution. Generally, the 450 is done in a very shallow manner. The opponent is located fairly close to the turnbuckle. Gabriel actually gave it some distance which turned the move into a dive. Essentially, it is similar to the springboard 450 Splash which AJ Styles and Jack Evans perform, except from the turnbuckle. It looked really, really cool. I just feel bad for poor Paul London. The guy was not allowed to perform either the Shooting Star Press or the 450 Splash, despite the fact that they were his finishing moves. He felt so strongly about that he actually brought his complaint to McMahon and ended losing the belt as a result. I guess they aren’t banned any longer….

Overall, pretty good show. Definitely far less kinks than last week’s show. It ran very smooth and really put over some of the rookies.

Quote of the Night
“I like you, not very much, but I like you” – Christian to Heath Slater

Another week and I'm still digging the show. It's a great way to get talent over and to get some of the vets on screen.

Although what was up with Gabriel's outfit? It looked cheesy, even by PW standards.

We are shown a replay of last weeks brawl between Otunga and R-Truth before the NXT promo hits. R Truth and Dave Otunga come to the ring as Michal Cole and Josh Mathew introduces us to the host of NXT Matt Striker. Striker puts over the rules of WWE NXT

Back in the arena, Miz’s theme song hits and we have Daniel Bryan coming to the ring with Miz. Miz cuts a promo on Bryan and says if Bryan loses the match, he will be kicked off NXT

R-Truth & Dave Otunga vs. Daniel Bryan & The Miz

Bryan and Truth start this out with “The Code of Conduct” before locking up with headlocks and arm bars and this leads to Truth nailing Bryan with a clothesline and tagging in Otunga. Truth & Otunga double team Bryan which leads to Bryans and Miz being on the outside before R-Truth jumps over the ropes and takes out both his opponents.

*Advert*

We are back as Bryan has Truth in a crossface which Truth fights out of only to be kneed in the stomach before Bryan tags in Miz. Miz locks in a front face lock which Truth reverses into a pin and Miz kicks out. Miz lays out Truth with a massive clothesline before going for a missing a leg lariet as Truth lay in ropes which allows Truth to tag in Otunga

Otunga catches Miz with power slam before Bryan tags himself in and locks in the Heel lock on Otunga. He looks like he is about to tap out when Miz tags himself in and this annoys Bryan who gets in the face of the Miz. They brawl and this allows Truth to hit a spinning heel on Miz and this allows Otunga to hit his one arm power slam.

Winners: R-Truth & Dave Otunga

After the match, Miz and Bryans stare down as Miz demands Bryans go to the back, Bryans flinches and Miz backs away. He see a replay of Carlito spitting in Heath Slater’s face

*Advert*

We see Miz walks to the back as Matt Striker asks Miz if he let down Bryans. Miz gets pissed as Bryans walks behind the interview and tells Miz that he is the tag champion because Miz’s tag team carry him to the belts. We see a video package for Justin Gabriel. We see Matt and Justin talking about last weeks match before Jericho and Wade Barrett walk in. Matt Hardy promises that Gabriela will win tonight

Christian and Heath Slater walk to the ring for Heath’s match against Carlito

Heath Slater vs. Carlito

This match starts fast as Slater ducks Carlito’s apple spit but walks into an elbow as we head to break

*Advert*

We are back as the wrestlers lock up in the corner before exchanging slaps which leads to Carlito charging at Slater who moves causing Carlito to go over the top rope. Back in the ring. Carlito drops Slater with a big boot. Carlito chucks Slater over the tope rope but Slater skims the cat but Carlito cuts him off as he enters the ring before slamming Slater into the corner and attemping the bronco buster. This allows Slater to get the upper hand and gets a 2 count with a power slam. Slater runs at Carlito who reverses into a spine buster before going to grab his apple which Christian has. This distraction leads to Slater rolling up Carlito for the win.

Winner: Heath Slater

We then see a video package for Darren Young. In the back we see Darren Young and CM Punk where Punk tells Young that straight edge will make him a winner,

*Advert*

We are shown a video package from Raw and the Wrestlemaina card is read out

*Advert*

Wade Barrett vs Justin Gabriel

This match starts with Wade dominating Gabriel before Justin fights out with kicks and punches before he is caught attempting a springboard which is blocked into a backbreaker. Barrett places Gabriel on the tope rope where Gabriel fights out of it and hit’s the 450 splash for the win

Winner: Justin Gabriel
