All I ever played was single player games like Skyrim, Arkham City etc. Why can't the base console be for those kind of players and all those who want online, TV, foxtel, kinect etc can get it if they want? I'd prefer to just play N64 than have all that shit.

They make a big deal about the voice activation crap as well. 'Xbox go home'. At the moment all you have to do is press a button to go to the home page. Wow.

The whole no-used games thing is pretty bullshit.

Want to see some actual games though before I write it off completely.

It's not just used games it applies to brand new games too by the sound if it.

Kinda worse then that...

What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner.
Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.
But what if a second person simply wanted to put the disc in and play the game without installing ? and without paying extra? In other words, what happens to our traditional concept of a ?used game?? This is a question for which Microsoft did not yet have an answer, and is surely something that game buyers (as well as renters and lenders) will want to know. - Kotaku.com

Neither of the big issues people seem to have problems affect me at all.

My 360 is always connected to the Internet as it is, so this new one having to be connected at least once every 24 hours is nothing new.

And I avoid buying second hand games, so worrying about having to pay an activation fee doesn't affect me either.

That's why there is such greed in the industry that f**ks the consumer at every chance possible "it doesn't affect me so I don't care" such a shit attitude towards consumer rights.

Point out where I said you did? It was a statement about the general attitude of something not affecting people.

Such a shame this is where we're at but hardly surprising. People accepted day one DLC, online passes, paying for content locked on disc, ultimate editions, rushed games patched later, the same shit every year so this is not surprising.

I'm keen to see where the console after this goes, you'll probably have to pay every time you Turn it on lol

Unfortunately people have just grown used to crap like day one DLC, and online passes. The majority of people just accept it, so the companies continue to use it.

Day one DLC isn't going away anytime soon, and online passes look like they'll just be replaced by this new system, for the Xbox, at least.

Content locked on the disc as DLC is the worst offender if you ask me. If you can put it on the game disc, then it's ready, don't make me pay more to access it.

with the 2nd hand game market thing, is there any precedent with this sort of stuff with other software? Like say I have a copy of phoTheFilthySpammershop and want to sell it to my mate. Can I legally do that?

Seems to me that they are really just trying to move games into being treated as licensed software rather than physical property that can be on-sold as often as you like.

:edit: what the f**k happens when you type PhoTheFilthySpammershop (P hoto Shop) on forum??

Those voice commands are a wank. Are people really that frustrated at having to press a few buttons on their remote.

What people fail to realize about the "15 exclusives" is that Microsoft didn't say how many of them would be "shovelware" or Kinect games. Not a single one of the games shown actually used in-game footage - and no, that isn't false, as Quantum Break was CGI/live action and the EA/Forza/CoD games were all given trailer touch ups (if any of the footage was even partially real gameplay at all). They screw over used game purchases. You have to be online once every twenty-four hours. What happens if I my internet is disabled for a month to pay other bills? Yay, no games (or movies, or anything). A big part of their conference was the TV and Sports stuff, but all that will only be available in the USA at launch.

Massive, massive screw up by Microsoft for me. And while CoD Ghosts looked pretty decent, the live demo of Killzone Shadow Fall blew it out of the water so easily - and several months earlier, mind - that it makes me legitimately wonder about the difference in power for each console.

The only thing that actually impressed me was the Kinect, but that it is mandatory to using your Xbox One is lame as hell.

I seriously could not be more disappointed. The PS4 reveal blew the Xbox One reveal out of the park. E3 may make a difference but I really doubt it, as Microsoft seems to be betting a lot on their third party exclusivity stuff - yeah, they emphasised the timed DLC for CoD and Ultimate Team bonuses. Sad, just sad. One only needs to take a look around at video game forums to tell you just how big the backlash to this thing is. As several people have already pointed out; they want a console for GAMES. They don't need an entertainment hub when their TV or PC already does it, or they don't need it.

And the worst part for Microsoft is that Sony still have a lot up their sleeve, like the console and a whole bunch of games.

Don't PC games tend to have a limit as to the number of PCs they can be installed on?

No. EA (ironically) ones used to, nowadays you rarely see it.

As a side note, having EA as a big part of the conference to announce the console and have demo some very average looking games that weren't even using in-game footage may prove a very bad move for Microsoft. They were voted the worst/most hated company in the US for a reason.....and the reason for EA abolishing its online pass program seems pretty clear now.

I'm with Parra Pride. I have cable at home, its always just on. Sometimes there's outages (seems to get a spaz attack once every three months), but its never for a day at a time, if I pull the plug and put it back in a few minutes later its all systems go. So the only thing I was worried about was having to be online all the time, if its just I have to be online once a day, that's ok with me.

Similarly, I don't share games. I've only bought a few second hands. Generally I want the full experience of a new game. So I'm not phased with that either.

I have seen the teaser for Forza 5, I was almost giving myself wristies over that. LOVE the Forza series.

I'm going to have to start saving hard. And even if I don't get it straight off the bat, I still have the 360 loaded up with a stack of games to play so I'm cool if I don't get it straight away too. That's still mighty impressive for me, given when I started gaming you controlled dudes on a black and white screen by typing in a command, sometimes playing a game off a cassette (as in music) tape. So with all that in mind, I'm thrilled we're getting a massively upgraded gaming model, but happy to wait it out on my current puppy as that already blows my mind.

The "always online" and used game stuff doesn't affect me, but it is nonetheless an incredibly bad move by Microsoft.

My problem with the games was that not one of them showed actual in-game footage - i.e. a game demo, the closest thing was a trailer (with touch ups) for CoD. And even the touched up stuff looked worse than what we saw at the PS4 reveal.

Agreed... Well to a degree, I mean this is why I don't want to comment until after E3...

But all the TV services I don't care for and saw coming...

I think it was interesting that the Sony presser suprised everybody by being so Western focused and not Japanese focused really and well Microsoft decided to go wholly USA-centric with all there services.

E3 should be interesting...
