Torres and Carroll - 85 million pounds worth of fail. Newcastle have been better without Carroll. You blokes have been better without Torres.

Carroll must be the worst buy in the history of any sport. He is the 8th most expensive football player IN HISTORY. The mind boggles.

I think Torres is the worst buy in history.

Carroll has too much determination for him to be a complete failure, no excuses for the penalty though.

And that is in the Liverpool thread why?

Liverpool and Chelsea both splurged on two out of form strikers, whilst Spurs got Adebayor for free.
Not trying to be arrogant or anything like that, but come on, pretty much every other team in the top seven bar Newcastle has spent millions and millions on their squads before the start of this season.
We pay Adebayor about £70,000 a week without worries of a transfer - not until next season, and he makes £35 million and £80 million Carrol and Torres look like amateurs.

How is he worse than Torres? Both have been shit. At least Liverpool got an extra 15 million.

But with Chelsea I understand they have a madman running the joint who spends money on who he wants, tells managers how to manage, then if it doesnt work out sacks the manager who was just carrying out his orders. Liverpool on the other hand don't have that same excuse.

The $50m if it was wisely invested in 4-5 top level youngsters could have turned them into powerhouses in the next couple seasons. Instead they put all their eggs in one basket.

On the topic, Kaka would have to come close as one of the worst buys in history
Second most expensive and he's done f**kall there, been injured most the time and isn't even in the starting XI now.

Back to Liverpool, two wins against Chelsea in the past 10 days...impressive
Even though one came in the Carling Cup it would be nice to remember what seeing us lifting a trophy feels like..

He would be, yes.
Sad though, Kaka's career really has been ruined by the move.
Torres was in crap form for Liverpool before he went to Chelsea though.
And I forgot it was £50 million, not £80 million, I keep confusing dollars and pounds.
Carroll wasn't worth £35 million but there's no doubt he was hot property, since then....
Ah well.

Torres probably is the worst buy ever, Carrol would be one of the stupidest for the price tag. Less than half the season in though, maybe he can prove us all wrong.

Shame about Kaka, I liked him as a player even though he was at AC.

I agree with all of that, people forget Carroll is still very young and he's obviously still acclimatizing. I do think he will come good, but as you say, the fee was way too much.
Chelsea got the man they wanted, they just happened to pay ridiculous overs for a top player in horrendous form. He probably would be the worst buy in history , certainly in English football.
Kaka was world class, to a degree he is still a great player, but he is a shadow of his former self. Injuries have killed him, I don't think Torres has the same excuse. Kaka did look good earlier this season though, but unsurprisingly, he's injured again.
It's not like it makes a massive difference, Real have too much god damn money and Ozil is rapidly becoming one of the world's best play- makers.

My observations on the game.
2 reserve sides playing each other with high priced over-rated players involved.

Bellamy and Lucas(never thought Id say that)were best on park.
For Chelsea david Luez or whatever is a great player.Matter of time before he's a gun if he's not already.
Frank was ordinary for them.
Easy to see why he's in the seconds.
He pokes instead of tackles.
Waits for the Lampard fans to defend him.

Torres-had a dig
Carroll Ditto.

Remember Chelsea paid Carrolls fee for us and added 15 million in exchange for Torres.
Kenny treats him on his real value not inflated transfer fee.

Looks like we are playing Man City in the semis of the league cup. If we beat them we should win the cup.

Anybody got the latest on Lucas?

Really want to see Henderson play in the middle of the park.
Written today

Liverpool fear key Brazilian midfielder Lucas could be out for six months with knee ligament damage.

Lucas, 24, was carried off on a stretcher following a collision with Ryan Bertrand during Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Carling Cup and he left the ground on crutches.

He underwent a scan at a Merseyside Hospital on Wednesday to ascertain how much ligament damage he has suffered to his left knee - and the signs are ominous.

Shame, he's actually been one of our best consistently this season and last
I was always a bit of a hater but not anymore
