Played Man City in a game which had little meaning.
Won 1-0.Should have put more away but thats the same old Liverpool story.
Torres scored.
Kuyt could have had 3 but thats Kuyt.
Man City always looked like they could nab a point just like a few others at anfield his year but they didnt.
Their young keper was outstanding.(Hart).
Stats
shots 23(10) to 4(3) *(shots on in brackets)
Corners 12 to 5
Free Kicks 4 to 9
Possession 49% to 51% surprising
Cant remember any cards.

very impressed with liverpool's new kit for next season. looks simple and really classy and reminds me of the liverpool adidas strips in the mid 80's

amazing save by that man city keeper (hart) to keep out gerard in the first half.

Steven Gerrard vows to stay at Liverpool FC and win a title
May 8 2008 by Nick Smith, Liverpool Daily Post

STEVEN GERRAD is determined to win the title before the end of his career – and will stay at Liverpool to achieve it.

As yet another season slips by without the championship crown going to Anfield, the captain is growing increasingly frustrated by the club’s inability to launch a geniune challenge.

In the Premier League era, Liverpool have only been in the top two once, when they finished seven points behind champions Arsenal as runners-up in 2002.

But Gerrard, who turns 28 this month, is confident that he will be around when the club finally closes the gap at the top and lands that first league win since 1990.

“I can’t see myself ever leaving Liverpool now, and what I would dearly love is to lead this club to the next level that I believe we are capable of reaching,” he said.

“I’ve won trophies here but there’s one I’m missing and I want that before I finish playing.

“I don’t want to look back and say I have never been in a title race. I can see that the team is getting stronger and stronger and I can see that we are going forward. I feel that we are getting closer and I really believe that.”

While Gerrard is wary that the team failed to live up to the expectation that was built up last summer with the club record signing of Fernando Torres, he thinks this summer’s signings will be even more vital to the club’s long-term direction.

“We always say this every year, but it will be an important summer because we need to keep the momentum,” said Gerrard.

“The manager’s signings will be important as they always are.

“I’ve been lucky as a footballer, and I’ve won more things that most players, but I’m greedy because I always want more – I want to win as many trophies as I can with Liverpool.

“That is why the summer is important.

“We are a young team with a lot of promise and if the manager can get the right support then we could take an important step forward.

“I don’t want to get into the politics of it all, but the manager knows what he needs, and we all know that we do have the chance this summer to go to that next level.

“We are disappointed we didn’t maintain a challenge in the league for longer than we did – the points gap between us and the top two isn’t particularly pleasant viewing for anyone here at Anfield. The boss is on record as saying he wants some players, and if we get some of the ones he wants then if they can have the same impact that guys like Fernando Torres, Martin Skrtel and Ryan Babel have had this year we’ll have taken a step forward.

“I think there is a hell of a lot more to come from us.”

Absolutely possible PROVIDED funds are provided this off-season to plug the gaps.

I do believe that, more than ever, the core of a great team is there. I will be frustrated if this sh*t between Hicks and Gillett lets the opportunity slip by.

Just saw highlights if the win over Tottenham.

Voronin even managed to make his goal look difficult - almost f**ked it up. If he stays at Anfield next season I'm getting a sex change operation and moving to Greenland.

Torres is a freak. Another great goal and almost scored a second with a superb chip. I'll say it again - freak.

Liverpool are one or two class players from being true title contenders. Looking at the final stats, ManUre actually lost more games than Liverpool over the season, but it was the amount of draws the Reds got that held them back. Just need another class finisher or two and the PL trophy looks good to return to Anfield.

The first real positive news of the transfer season is now official.
John Arne Riise has signed for Roma.

http://www.thisisanfield.com/news/2008/06/riise-departs-for-roma/http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/latest-sport-news/2008/06/18/roma-sign-riise-84229-21102163/

The fact we dont have to pay anyone to take him is a positive.
Dont get me wrong he's been a fine player over the years for Liverpool but his form in the past 18 months has been ordinary to say the least.
Maybe a change of clubs is best for both parties.

Too many names mentioned as possible targets but the Gareth Barry saga lingers on.Unfortunately I dont hold much hope of capturing David Villa but if a miracle occurred and we did sign him I have no doubt we would be right in the title race.We do need a big signing or two but things are pretty quiet on that front at the moment.
One thing though Rafa has surprised in the transfer market previously so you never know.
Milne,Bentley and Olic seem to be names we are linked to in more than 1 report.
Also we always seem to be linked with getting rid of Crouch and Finnan although every players name has come up.
Sadly Xabi Alonso has departed to Juventus.
He could prove a great buy for them as he is a class act.

A player completely devoid of any technical ability, only able to kick a ball with one foot and having a bit of pace may cut it in the EPL, but certainly isn't good enough in the Serie A.

I have no idea why we've signed him.

If he somehow learns to use his right foot, develops some tactical nous, improves his crossing and learns how to defend then he may be some value.

I don't have high hopes.

he's a muppet who masked it for a while with a few stunning strikes.
this season was awful from him tho, culminating in that champions league performance.

Great news he has gone.

Barry will be a good signing i believe, and Bentley would not be to bad also, though i think Blackburn would ask for a high transfer fee, much more then he is worth.

Id love another class Striker, Olic has been good for Croatia the games i have seen, though i would like someone more 'high profile'

I can't believe we signed Riise - he's a spastic.

FFS
lol, I'm glad you have. You were supposedly interested in Silvestre as well, and I want him to stay at Man Utd. Perfect backup to Evra and far better than Riise has ever been (that might go down well in this thread :D).
