Benayoun was a good replacement but why didnt Rafa replace Skrtel after he was booked.
Blackburn were still in the game at that stage and Skrtel had dodged a bullet.
Hypia was n the bench too.
I suppose the Blackburn guy who hit Gerrard in the back was a touch lucky in the first half but no free kick so no case to answer.
Gerrard the difference again.
No penalty in the first half (IMO)but he had a case for one in the 2nd half.
After the Arsenal penalty mid week we were no chance of getting one-or am I being synical?

definitely faked it imo

the second one, definately, he got a knock in the back, but it wasnt a penalty because it happened outside the box, but he certainly, made the most of it tumbling into the penalty box and banging on the ground when he didnt get the free

Agree with what youve said but to be fair he couldnt do anything about ending up in the box.
Thought the second half foul(same bloke I think-could be wrong)was a penalty.

Torres last night beat the Liverpool record by scoring for the 7th home game in a row.
A bit of a problem coming up for Rafa. The Fullham game is 3 days before the first Chelsea game.Fullham must love us because you can bet we'll trot out the reserves.Remember when the other managers went off at Rafa for fielding the reserves in the relegation battle last year(or the year before). They have Birmingham a few days before the second leg too.4th place may not be as secure as we'd like to think.

i didn't see how Skyrtel's challenge deserved a red. He was the last man but he barely got a touch on the blackburn player, who went down pretty easily. Yellow was fair to me. Blackburn went missing in the second half, made it too easy for livo to close the game.

Interesting game tomorrow and interesting fixture date.
Everton play Chelsea tomorrow.
Gives Chelsea an extra couple of days to recover for the trip to Anfield(CL).
If Chelsea lose we might have to play a stronger team on Saturday(OK its Rafa I'm talking about here)because Everton would only be 2 points behind.
Given the Wigan result the other day(1-1)Chelsea is now at big odds to win the title.
Brings me to the question is it in Chelsea's best interest to lose tomorrow?

How strange hoping Chelsea win tomorrow and then hoping they get flogged next start.

Heaven forbid we hope Manure kick the you know what out of Chelsea the following week.
All in Brawl between their strongest line ups.

nah
i want chelsea to win the title
anyone but the mancs

I'd rather that too but even after this morning I doubt it will happen.
On that Chelsea game what was going on with Essien?
Looked like he was unconcious, they revive him with smelling salts and put him back on.
He came through ok(well he looked ok at the end)but must of been some risk.
Should have had a bet on the score.
1-0 to Chelsea always looked a huge possibility prior to the game.

Liverpool must repay £31.5 million to banking institutions in little more than a year or risk having to sell Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel. The Times has learnt that Liverpool borrowed the money to sign Torres, the Spain forward who has scored 30 goals this season and has already become a firm favourite on the Kop, from Atlético Madrid last summer. The club then refinanced that debt on January 25, at the same time as they secured a £350 million refinancing package.
Liverpool entered into an 18-month loan agreement with interest of 9 per cent — £2.8 million a year — with a letter of credit to pay back the £31.5 million at the end of the period.
Should Liverpool be unable to pay back or refinance the loan, banks could force the sale of Torres and Babel, who was also included in the smaller refinancing package.

It is unusual for Barclays Premier League clubs to buy players in this way. Deals are normally funded using television income. Liverpool have to pay £30 million a year in interest payments on the £350 million loan, the terms of which end in July 2009. There was no official comment from the club last night.
The revelations came on a day when the turmoil at Anfield reached a nadir after Tom Hicks attempted to strengthen his grip on the club during an interview in which he demonised his enemies inside and outside Anfield. However, the Liverpool co-owner has only six weeks to raise the funds he needs if he is to achieve his goal of buying the club outright.
Having continued his assault on Rick Parry by calling his tenure as chief executive “a disaster”, Hicks admitted that his joint-ownership venture with George Gillett Jr had proved unworkable, but he is looking for the funds that would help him to buy Gillett’s 50 per cent stake and to “fix the entire financial structure of the club” while overseeing the construction of a new 70,000-capacity stadium in Stanley Park.
Gillett responded last night with a strongly worded statement in which he accused his co-owner of destabilising the club. “I am saddened at this latest outburst from Tom Hicks,” he said. “If Tom wanted a serious discussion on the issues to help the club move forward, he should bring his views to the board.
“Here we are, a few days away from a vital Champions League semi-final match and Tom has once again created turmoil with his public comments. Tom should stop. He knows that Rick Parry has my support and that airing his comments in this way will not change my position.
“Tom needs to understand that I will not sell my shares to him.”
Hicks was typically bullish about his prospects of raising the money — or, perhaps more realistically, finding the financial backing — but while he continues to explore his options with Merrill Lynch, his latest financial adviser, the clock is ticking.
Hicks has denied rumours in the City that he is under pressure to refinance his Hicks Sports Group, which holds his stakes in various sports franchises in the United States, but a deadline is looming to buy Gillett’s stake, which is the subject of a rival bid from Dubai International Capital (DIC), the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai Government.
Under the terms of their takeover 14 months ago, Hicks has pre-emption rights on Gillett’s stake in Liverpool and vice versa. That option is understood to expire 90 days after he was informed of DIC’s £200 million offer to Gillett, which was made on February 27. That period would expire on May 27, six days after the Champions League final in Moscow.
Hicks, though, maintains that he will be in charge of Liverpool for the long term, which would be bad news for Parry. “What has happened under Rick has been a disaster,” Hicks told Sky Sports News. “We have fallen so far behind the other clubs. We have still got the top brand in the world of football, but that’s no good if you don’t know how to commercialise it. Rick needs to resign. You have to be able to work with the manager and Rick has proved he can’t do that.”
Parry, who responded with a rigorous defence of his record, will not resign and is under no pressure to do so, given that only two of the club’s six directors want him to go.
Hicks said that, if he succeeds in buying Liverpool outright, he will offer Benítez a one-year extension to his contract, which expires in 2010, but, despite his newfound alliance with the manager, he remains unpopular with supporters.

I'll give you a tip.
To recoup 31 million they wont be selling Torres or Babel.
Got a list of donkeys we can easily flog off.(wont list them all again).
Read today we got 11 million for sissoko(it was supposed to be 8)and torres depending on who you read is anything between 20 and 26 million.
Its just all specuation because they dont really know.
*If the Yanks went under no doubt DIC would step in but remember we havent borrowed anything yet to build that stadium.Old Liverpool debts were factored into the first sale as well as Moores made a point of it before selling.
Nobody but the Yanks would know the real story anyway but it wont stop the press from digging.
They probably make 30 million from the Champions League even if thy lose the semi too.

*theyve got 350 million approved which includes building a new stadium.

Only 8 changes to the Liverpool side this morning.
Reina,Skrtel and Leiva were the only ones to retain their places.
We won 2-0 with goals from Pennant(beat the keeper at his near post but it was a good goal)and Crouch who struck one nicely.Keeper was covering it too but it was a difficult stop for him.Looked a lot easier to save in slow motion than it did when Crouch hit it.
Pretty controlled performance.Means we need 1 point from the last 3 games for 4th and thats if Everton win their last 3 games. We'd be very long odds on.
Playing Chelsea this week.
Hypia and Gerrard(neck)are the main injury worries.

Heres some news on that financial front.
The point that bugs me is the 350 million debt was to refinance existing debt(sounds like Torres and Babel is a different loan again) and build the stadium.
As a lot of the stadium money wouldnt of been drawn wouldnt the buyout be whatever the loan is drawn to now/when buyout is agreed plus the 60 million to Gillett.
Especially if DIC is going to do its own finance to build the stadium.
More guessing but the outcome looks inevitable.
Also in one paper we cant pay back the Torres Babel loans and in the next we're willing to buy Gareth Barry for 14 million.(although they speculate a Riise Crouch deal plus cash our way which would be a bargain IMO).
I reckon the paper is just having a guess.

And Parrys response to the Babel/Torres transfers;http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N159621080419-0936.htm

Off to Birmingham tonight needing a point to sow up 4th spot.Any bets on how many will be rested?
Hows Fox' form?
Some match between Chelsea and Manure is on at 9.30 and then about 5 games on viewers choice-none of which include the might of Birmingham and the Liverpool reserves.
Maybe the Fox commentators wont know any of the names so theyve gone for the weaker matches.
