You're idea that we pay them next year based on performance on a game by game method Is Insane.

I honestly think that Marshall and Farah are borderline first graders at this point. They can both clearly still play good footy but throughout the season they tend to have really poor moments. They should be getting paid like that and allow us some cap room to purchase some better players. As back-ups they are great options.

I agree that consistency is important but most clubs will have some down periods in the season. Ours just lasts longer than the top teams.

Nowhere did I state that they get paid game by game. They get offered a contract as per the way they have been playing which is that they are borderline first graders. Simple. I expect they will be paid decent money relative to the average worker. They should also be on lower level NRL player money which leaves us more money to spend on some other players. I hope that makes sense.

Sue’s A loss but only has himsel to blame. Was terrible for 18 months then started putting in when he realized he wasn’t getting a contract. Shame he didn’t have that attitude his whole career here otherwise he’d be an established Rep player by now.

Mikaele looks promising in replacing him off the bench.

Argh crap .. just heard on the radio he has re-signed for another 12 months.
I wonder if we even had a word with his manager.

So basically we've signed Matterson and maybe Mimerovski and lost shitty depth players which will mean if we get hit with Injuries next year as we seem so often seem to do, then we're in the same or worse position as we were this year.

The top teams invest so heavily in star talent that realistically they are only 2 maybe 3 injuries away from being ordinary themselves.

It seems the way forward for success doesn't it. You don't get sustained success unless you get lucky with injuries.

We did win but we won because we somehow got a team to fire that wasn't filled with stars. Benji was a kid. Prince's career was at the crossroads because he was injured and he didn't make it at the broncos.

Prince was always going to be a star, he just had the same kind of injury run that Benji did at the start of his season.

05 I remember they changed the interpretation of the play the ball ruling which helped us greatly to.

Grace Jones will go well in UK.
Nobody tackles over there, and they all run out of the defence line.
We need to lose McQueen,Rochow and Huth and then the broom can go in the locker

Agree....he didn’t progress until we wouldn’t give him a contract.
Then he tried.
He will only be a benchie at Dogs anyway.

I agree. We had some luck and we came from nowhere. The rule changes helped us as well.

Tiger05, can I add,

If a player was to be paid
offered a contract as per the way they have been playing which is that they are borderline first graders
so, you'd have to have seasonal, rolling contracts. Season 1 x dollars, season 2 higher or lower value based on season 1.

So how would you pay someone based on 7 below average games, 7 so/so games, 4 great games and 6 absolute blinders, 3 of which were at season end and got you into the finals? Who makes the call on season 2 valuation? As a fan, I'd certainly remember the 3 blinders and the fact that they made the 8.

In this season I can think of the Manly & Canberra games where all players deserved top dollars, (or was it Marshall being on the field in the Canberra game?) Then we can't forget the last game of the season.

All very subjective because we don't see what happens at training (clubs need particular players to mentor and motivate younger guys even if that is not shown in their playing performance). Take man of the match awards or the other thread where people nominated their Tigers player of the year as examples.

I understand what you are saying but it would be very hard to attract new players if that was the case.

^^^

I am not stating anything at all like what you are stating. Players earn their wages off the back of their performances. I accept that players are inconsistent. Maloney was beyond ordinary last night but he is probably the best half in the game.

It's simply about managing your cap well.
