Your top 5 overrated players of all time?

The merkin couldn't make a tackle to save his life and had to run screaming from the code when the cheap shot shoulder-charge was banned and now takes his frustrations out on fat alcoholic old men in the ring and union players who are in even worse condition.

Backrowers I've seen play that shit on SBW from a dizzying height:

Paul Sironen
Scott Gourley
Brad Clyde
Ben Kennedy
Gorden Tallis
Brad Thorn
Ali L?a!u'ti't;i
Nathan Hindmarsh
Steve Menzies
Jason Taumololo
Paul Gallen
Josh Jackson
Sam Burgess
He plays inside centre for the All Blacks - probably the second hardest position in the game to defend.

Also half the names I am seeing in the discussion aren't even players that were rated in the first place, Shane Perry? if Lockyer wasn't his halves partner he'd never be spoken of, any serious fan knows he did f**k all, never once heard his name mentioned as someone who was thought highly of, until now

I think there is blurring of over-hyped and over-rated. Probably because there is a disgusting crossover between media hype and rewards within the game.

If you got an afro and a sense of humour with the press you're cheering.

I guess it all comes down to who's rating of a player you're talking about; over-rated by commentators? Media? Selectors? Fans? Your mates? General perception?

I'm not saying SBW is crap.

But if you're going to spend most of your career hiding in a code where your most arduous requirement as an athlete is to sweep the sheds after the game then please, you're no great.

SBW would be run of the mill post-shoulder charge era. Ticker means a lot and that merkin has none. I don't even consider him a RL player. He's had short cameos in RL with long holidays in RU and boxing cab drivers twice his age.

He's played 118 NRL games over 10 years. Play 8 consecutive seasons before you get a look into the conversation.

You 2 do realise he returned to the game post shoulder charge ban and dominated the comp? Or have you completely erased 2013 from your memory?

Lol very short term memories. A few too many concussions, perhaps.

SBWs 2013 season is easily the best I've ever seen from a forward and arguably the best from any player.

He joined a team that had miserable back to back seasons and played a huge role in turning them into a juggernaught that ranks as one of the best club sides in the NRL era.

No forward is even in the same ballpark as SBW when it comes to attacking influence. He was setting up tries and line breaks like a world class 5/8. And he was a great defender and leader, too.

Absolute drunkard behaviour to suggest he was overrated and call Matt freaking Gillett better. SBWs 2013 season was better than Gillett's career lol

Oh and you don't "hide" at the All Blacks. He's won two World Cups for the greatest national team in any sport. How'd Sam Burgers stint in Rugby go?

Your definitely overstating SBW’s 2013 there. He was a vital cog in a great team and did have a very good season but the best season ever for a forward? No. Taumololo has had a couple of better ones already in his career. Lauititi in 02, Glenn Stewart 2011, Kasiano 2012.

He wasn’t even the best forward in 2013. Fifita was brilliant that season.

Best season by a forward ever is subjective but his 2013 season was damn good either way and to say that he couldn't hack it post shoulder charge ban is demonstrably wrong.

Josh Jackson 2018 > SBW 2013

but, I will admit

SBW 2013 > Sam Thaiday's entire NRL career and entire comedic career and his soon to be entire commentator/'analyst' career.

Saying SBW’s 2013 was arguably the best season by a player, ever trumps it.
I said arguably the best that I've ever seen; which is from 2000 onwards.

Everyone was laughing at SBW and saying he'd be a failure in returning to league. The game had past him by. The threads were hilarious; especially after rnd 1 vs Souths where we got flogged. 9 months later he was the most influential player on the Premiership winning team; playing attacking footy that no other forward can dream of.

For me it's right up there alongside the likes of Smith 2017, Thurston 2015, Slater and Locky's best work, Joey and Freddy early 2000s, Taumalolo's Dally M season, Boyd Cordner in 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 and 2018; and even the legendary Sam Kasiano season of 2012.
