85 games in and still the most unaware/immature player we have had ... Makes rein look like a smart footy player ...

Mary will cost us Zac like he cost us Robson.

I am afraid that the Dragon’s reggies is like the elephants graveyard - it where they go to die or in many a talented players case the spring board to another club . How many years has Josh Kerr been there ? Reece Robson departing next year , the exodus must stop .

That is the last place we need Zac Lomax , we all know that he has an abundance of talent and the maestro MUST fine a permanent spot for him in the top grade and fine-tune his skills . :innocent:

He wouldn't get selected over Rava or Pereira at the Dragons. Does not matter how good you are, just ask Robson.
You can be good. But you need to be better than the bloke you're trying to replace. If the incumbent is in the leadership group, fringe origin and a consistently proven high performer, that's just how it is possm my dear boy

Zac Lomax, the gifted one, as Fittler called him, but I'm getting the feeling of gifted one in what position.

I don't think Centre is going to be his position moving forward. Given his body shape, height and weight and definitely. doesn't have the pace.
I was interested to watch the Sharks game last night particularly their edge forward Nikora. To give you some comparisons: Nikora is 21yrs old and listed as 185cm and 94kg. Lomax is 19 and currently listed (but I think he's bigger now) as 190cm and 94kg.

Could Lomax be destined for life as an edge forward?

He's definitely a very strong Defender, does have good pace for a forward, can offload, and has good play awareness. So, is playing from the bench as a middle forward by McGregor, his slow introduction to a permanent role. Time will tell I suppose, but with Dufty extended and now playing full back and love child will be harder to move from his current Center position it appears that Lomax might have to settle for this role more permanently.

I’m starting to think the same, perhaps even a lock. I reckon you’re right, he seems to have put on a few kg since last season and might be closer to 100kg now. Finally Mary has the 4 man forward bench that we’ve been calling for. Now he’s just got to work on rotating the bench. He’s managed to progress to using 3/4.

Yeah Aitken always seems a bit frantic

My best assessment is that Waterboy is trying to give his long term protege a shot at Origin FFS

In some whacko delusional way success with Aitken would show what a great mentor he was

One day Zac will play alongside Mitchell for Australia - and wouldn’t it be just hilarious if Freddie picked him on the bench for the Blues very soon, thus bypassing the moron.

Carrying Lomax (or any back) on the bench just in case of an injury absolutely infuriates me!
When Lomax did come on for 15 minutes last week it was in the back row.
What is the point?
Surely its better to pick another forward and if there was an injury to a back then move a backrower into the backs to cover?
We are wasting an interchange all fricken year just in case there is a fricken injury!
I really hate this tactic.
Can someone explain it to me?
Lomax on the bench for 80 minutes kills me. Put the poor kid back to CC if you aren't going to pick him you bloody goose Mary!!!:triumph:

Well, Bellamy carries a reserve hooker and back on his bench (Smith and Papenhyzen).

Storm seem to be going alright.

Is anyone on here questioning Bellamy’s bench make up??

Does he play them?

Well Papenhyzen got on for a few minutes at the death and had a crucial dropped ball. Storm missed a FG shot as a result.

Not saying it was a wrong or right move but putting on a rookie in pressure moments does have risks.

Watching Xerri go round for Sharks really compounds the hurt that our counterpart, Lomax, is just sitting out being wasted, and his development and experience stunted. Zac has been on the scene much longer than Xerri, and did brilliantly when injury gave him a chance last year. Yet it's the Sharks' fans who can be assured great things for the future while our Zac sits idly on the bench. Yes, you can argue he's not a winger or that Aitken's been solid but really, a coach with half an eye for talent would be getting him in the team pronto.
Wow this post comes home to roost after this week's matches. So far the only changes McGregor has ever made is due to injury and each time it has helped (Lomax in last year semi run, Widdop fullback to nowhere) and now he is here for 2 more years that was enough for Robson, how long can Lomax take it?

Lomax is fairly experienced for a "Rookie"....proved he could handle the pressure of finals football last year....he is wasted on the bench...
McGregor is such a one dimensional coach...Lomax could have been bought on last night when that kick with 5 mins to go was to be taken...I would have given him the last 15 mins...He is a much better kicker than Lafai .

With all due respect, comparing Bellamy to McGregor is Silly....one is a master coach who actually knows what he is doing while the other has proven over his 5 year tenure that he is stubborn and unwilling or unable to change any of his thinking/strategies.

He has one game plan..Power Game...use of the bench hasn't changed in 5 years...he picks and sticks with under - performing players and is unwilling to make pathways for our better Juniors.

Not comparing Bellamy to Mary at all.

But there seems to be some angst about having a back like Lomax on the bench. Just saying Bellamy uses the same tactic. Seibold did as well at different times last year with Douehi.

No I don’t agree with how Mary uses his bench and agree Lomax should get more minutes.

Just stating that it’s not unusual to have a back on the bench and other well credentialed coaches use the same tactic.

Difference is "Other well credentialed coaches " know what they are doing......McGregor is not capable of changing tactics mid - stream nor has he changed tactics drastically in 5 years...

One Trick Pony.
