For him to pull out of the manly deal would require a deal to be on the table. According to his manager, there are no deals or offers from any club yet
Im sure we did, but manly are desperately scrambling to make a descent offer, they say they need to move another player on to even give pearce a descent deal.pearce will make a call next week for sure as he really needs to get in to a squad and get a descent preseason in.

If Pearce somehow pulls out of the Manly deal due to Newcastle making him the highest paid player (annual salary) in RL history I sincerely hope he wins the Dally M and leads us to a premiership.

A pay packet that large will mean enormous pressure on him regardless of the media bs to the contrary.

It will be relentless criticism of him if things don't work.

I don't get it.. Usually I find your posts quite spot on but I feel you're wide of the mark here...

We're the club that's just gotten 3 wooden spoons in a row and our admin has been a mess for years... We are the beggars and we won't get to be the choosers anytime soon. Pearce definitely won't lead us to a premiership and get Dally M next year but it's a move in the right direction. I am also a little weary because we've spent big bucks on busts in years gone by but this move is very different. Mainly because:

Brown only wants to sign players who want to be here. Previously, we had to pay overs for players who were only here for a paycheck. If Pearce does sign, there's a really good chance he'll play for the jersey and his career and not just the paycheck.

We used to sign players who were over the hill. Pearce has been around for a long time but he's only 28 and arguably the best years of a halves player is in this late 20s and 30s. We're signing a guy who is in his prime. Also, he doesn't have a history of injuries.

He's coveted by many of the big clubs. We used to sign players who no one else wanted but this year we've managed to fight off some rival clubs for some really good signings (Watson, Ponga, etc.). I think Pearce will be the biggest coup of this recruitment drive. He'll be the lead signing we can show off in events. Furthermore, he would bring people to the games and show our sponsors we are serious. I'm sure we'll get plenty of people through the gates hoping to see him fall and burn but hopefully he does well and turns those people into believers.

He is a defensive specialist. I believe that players like Pearce will inspire/motivate the players around him to play better defense. I always got the feeling we were one of those teams that went for 40-32 type victories instead of 10-2 type victories. Flair over substance. I think Brown is trying to change that and Pearce would be the centrepiece of that change.

I'm sure I could add stats and what not to write a detailed report on why I think Pearce is a must but I think most people here already agree that Pearce is/will be a fantastic acquisition.

Making him the highest paid player ever is a risk but it's also a strategy. We're showing the NRL that we're serious and not just pushovers anymore. Even if we don't make the 8, if Pearce's addition does push us up the table and shows the NRL we are a harder team to beat, more people will be interested in joining our team and project. He isn't the final piece of the puzzle but perhaps the biggest and most important (as a player).

If we miss out, I'd be disappointed but I have a lot more faith in Brown and our new management so I think we'll be okay anyway. Just Pearce will make us from 'okay' to 'good' next season and hopefully 'great' the few seasons after that.

Question is whether Pearce really does want to be at Newie.
Maybe we are being a bit cunning by not tabling an offer in the hope he will approach us.

Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa emerges as an X-factor in Knights’ chase for Mitchell Pearce

SYDNEY Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa has emerged as a possible X-factor in the Newcastle Knights’ bid to sign Mitchell Pearce.

While Napa is contracted until the end of 2019, the 25-year-old could join the Knights next year if the Roosters permit him to sign with another club.

The Roosters are chasing young South Sydney back-rower Angus Crichton and letting Napa go to the Knights early could benefit both clubs.

Pearce and Napa are good mates and Pearce recently posted a photo on Instagram of the two catching up while on holiday in New York.

Pearce wore the brunt of criticism for the Roosters’ disappointing finals exit that led to Cooper Cronk’s signing.

But the performances of Napa and fellow front-rower Jared Waerea-Hargreaves also came under heavy scrutiny at the Bondi club.

Napa would add grunt to a Newcastle pack that recently acquired veteran forwards Aidan Guerra, Chris Heighington and Jacob Lillyman.

The Knights also have some gun youngsters coming through, including the Saifiti twins and young Brisbane recruit Herman Ese’ese.

If the Knights can’t sign Napa early, they are prepared to wait until he is available.

Pearce and Napa are managed by the same player agent, Steve Gillis, who is due to meet with the Knights this week when Phil Gardner, the boss of the powerful Wests Group that now owns the Knights, returns from business in New Zealand.

Pearce met with Nathan Brown in Newcastle last Friday and it is understood he went home impressed with the coach’s vision for the future.

While the Knights are yet to make an official offer to Pearce, money is not an issue.

Newcastle still have the best part of $2 million available in their salary cap for next year.

And they have also signed Pearce’s former Roosters teammates Guerra, Connor Watson and Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

While Manly are said to be in the box seat to sign Pearce, they are still trying to offload players despite releasing Blake Green to the New Zealand Warriors.

The Daily Telegraph has been told the Knights have been approached about their interest in signing Manly pair Darcy Lussick and Brian Kelly.

But the Knights want to sign a top playmaker and a prop — and Pearce and Napa fit the bill perfectly.

Newcastle chased hard for Matt Scott and James Graham but couldn’t convince either to make the move.

While Napa doesn’t have their experience, at his best he is one of the game’s most feared enforcers.

Against South Sydney last year, he pinned a target on Sam Burgess and convincingly came out on top.

It was rated one of the most outstanding performances from a front-rower in the modern game but some people at the Roosters question his consistency.

Politis aint mucking around if this is true. Would seem he's being very honest with who went missing at the pointy end of last season for the Roosters and wants to see the back of them. Also seems to be prepated to get rid of a few who have had some problems on the drink.

Puts the rest of them on notice too and will take sone pressure of Cronk as everyone will have their 'game on' every week or they'll be next.

JWH is getting some leeway due to his knee injury the season before I'd say but he surely can't dish up a repeat of the same next season.

Poor Bunnies might be resigned to losing their rising second rower.

Napa and Pearce as a package deal would be excellent. A bit of starch in the front row and a quality half changes our team dramatically. The only position we would still need to strengthen after that is at centre which is still a concern. I'd take Brian Kelly though if Manly didn't want him. Although if Manly are letting players go to accomodate Pearce then we should shut up shop and say no so they can't sign Pearce haha.

Watson to centre.... with the extra space he would be electric.

Several reports that manly would have to back end his contract, then there is manly are still trying to move players on to accomodate pearce, also pearce is concerned about the audit scandal and the list goes on. So yeah safe to say sharks and knights are left to seal the deal.
