Apparently back in court on 31st July. I guess its when the Judge will hand down his decision.

We are also in talks with him to extend his contract (other clubs have also approached him).
The decision relates to legal arguments only and the judge is expected to hand down his decision in August.....for legal issues only. A joint jury trial for both defendants is penciled in for three weeks in November, assuming the Covid-19 situation is sorted by then.

Please delete that post mate.
You are better than this.
Please don't quote it Tru. I know you mean well, but it's hard enough removing stupid posts without having to then remove the quotes.

Thanks to those who reported the post in question.

Hypothesizing for a moment, where would De Belin play if he was cleared?

Would he go straight back into lock given the current McInnes playing 13 and Hunt 9 (which seems to be working)? If so, either Clune gets dropped completely ie Hunt back to 7, or Hunt to the bench and McInnes back to 9 which also means either Fui or Ford drop out.

Thoughts?

Knowing our genius coach, Cluney would probably get the ass and Jack to halfback.

He wouldn’t be match fit so I’d use him as a bench second rower, probably at the expense of Fuimaono mainly because I think Ford needs more of a run. Once fit I’d move Hunt to 7 and drop Norman. I would still get Hunt to to kick from dummy half when he sees fit though.

I'd say De Belin and Vaughan to become our bookend run on props. We are short a marquee prop and De Belin could fill that role well. This would of course only be the case if Hunt and McInnes continue to be effective in their roles of hooker and lock respectively.

De Belin in line for huge pay rise despite lack of games
Adam Pengilly
July 18, 2020 — 12.01am

Jack de Belin's value has soared almost $200,000 despite not having played a game in close to two years, with the rush for his signature set to intensify in the next fortnight.

The representative back-rower will field offers dwarfing his current $595,000-a-year deal with the Dragons, which he's still being paid in full despite being sidelined under the NRL's no-fault stand-down policy.

De Belin is due to face trial over sexual assault charges this year and is no certainty to return to the game, but it hasn't stopped rivals circling.

St George Illawarra officials spoke to de Belin over Zoom this week and are willing to offer the 29-year-old close to $700,000 a year, even though he has done little more than train with them since being stood down early last year.

But the Red V are struggling to match the cashed-up Warriors, who have earmarked de Belin as a potential cornerstone of their pack and are prepared to offer the former State of Origin forward almost $200,000 a year more than his current deal.

And their valuation of the former State of Origin star could net him one of the biggest pay rises in the game despite not having the chance to be in the shop window.

The Warriors have also expressed an informal interest in off-contract Dragons centre Euan Aitken, who has rejuvenated his career since the competition reboot and is a close friend of de Belin's.

The Warriors are looking to significantly reshape their roster. Blake Green and Gerard Beale are unlikely to stay in 2021 and they are also waiting for Adam Blair to formally take up an option in his favour for next season.

The option is believed to be a lucrative one and was used to entice the Kiwi international across the Tasman from Brisbane when the Dragons were also circling.

De Belin will be unable to visit the Warriors' facilities in New Zealand given he surrendered his passport as part of his bail conditions. He will continue to conduct talks on video calls given he has been included in St George Illawarra's biosecurity "bubble".

His new deal will be signed before the NRL's current contracting period ends on October 31, which is expected to be before any potential legal trial. De Belin has pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault in company.

The Dragons regard him as crucial to their forward pack beyond this year given Tyson Frizell has accepted a deal to head to Newcastle from next year. Their 2019 season was left in freefall when de Belin's Federal Court challenge against the no-fault stand-down rule was denied.

The club is also monitoring Corey Harawira-Naera's situation at the Bulldogs after the NRL appeals committee overturned his deregistration following the Port Macquarie schoolgirl scandal.

There is better news for the Dragons. Emerging prop Josh Kerr is poised to sign a three-year deal to stay at the joint venture from next season.

The 24-year-old has agreed terms and will put pen to paper in coming weeks.

The two-time Indigenous All-Star has been a bright spark for Paul McGregor's side this year. Despite playing just 16 NRL games, he has shown enough for the Dragons to offer a long-term contract extension.

St George Illawarra can move to the fringe of the top eight with victory over the battling Bulldogs at WIN Stadium on Saturday.

Canterbury's only victory this season was against the Dragons at Bankwest Stadium last month, but St George Illawarra has since turned around their season.

"You're not surprised in what you know the players are capable of," McGregor said. "The big thing I feel is our more experienced players and higher profile players are playing better consistently and, when they do that, your young guys grow."

Worry about it when and if it happens. I don't think we will be seeing jack this year

Let Jack play: Dragons to ask NRL to review no-fault stand-down policy

St George Illawarra will approach the NRL in the coming weeks to ask the governing body to reconsider its position on Jack de Belin and how the no-fault stand down policy is applied.

The Dragons are hopeful the NRL will at least give consideration to allowing De Belin to play in 2020 as the lock forward’s time out of the game goes past 18 months.

De Belin is due in court for a pre-trial hearing at the end of the month, when there is some possibility the case will be thrown out altogether. However, the most likely scenario will see the 29-year-old back in court to face trial on rape charges at the end of the year.
De Belin has missed almost two seasons since being stood down in February 2019. And there is every chance, given the uncertainty around the COVID-19 situation and the potential delays in the legal system as a result, that could stretch out to three.

The Dragons know how delicate the topic is. If De Belin is found guilty, he faces the prospect of a custodial sentence. If found not guilty, he will have missed two years of football in what should have been the prime of his career.

At the introduction of the no-fault stand down policy, the NRL successfully argued that allowing De Belin to play would damage the game's brand. The Dragons believe there's a growing case to suggest that the impact now would not be as damaging as it was 18 months ago.

The Dragons want ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys and interim chief executive Andrew Abdo to consider placing a limit on how long a player can be frozen out of the game.

"We think it’s definitely worth asking the question," Dragons chief executive Ryan Webb told The Herald. "I don’t think anyone could foresee this taking 18 months to play out, potentially two years. So I think it’s definitely worth another conversation with the NRL to see where everyone’s position is having all that time pass."

St George Illawarra powerbrokers spoke with De Belin via Zoom last week to begin discussions around extending his deal at the club. He is off contract come October 31 and the Dragons want to retain him as the New Zealand Warriors circle for his services.

"We met with Jack to see if he had a desire to stay with the club, and if there were any questions that he had around the club’s position moving forward or our actions in the past," Webb said.

"Jack came back and said we’re definitely in his considerations moving forward, which is what we wanted to hear. I would hope that he appreciates the support that the club and the members and everyone associated has given him. I hope that he sees that. Jack has acknowledged that he feels comfortable at the club and appreciates the support the club has given him over the last 18 months."

Making matters difficult is uncertainty around the logistics of the contract. There's every chance De Belin will still not know his fate when the new contract kicks in on November 1, with the Dragons also set to seek clarity over the issue when it reaches out to the NRL in the coming weeks.

"That phase of the conversation I think will be a discussion with his manager and the NRL," Webb said. "We hope to take that up in the next couple of weeks. We’ll just get the first part of the negotiation sorted and we work out those unique details after that. I don’t think it’s anything we can’t work through."

Dragons’ bold bid to demand NRL let de Belin play this year

The Dragons are planning to make the bold move to request the NRL to reconsider its stance on Jack de Belin as the star forward’s time out of the game stretches towards 18 months.

The lock forward was first stood down in February 2019 after being charged with aggravated sexual assault.

He was the first player to be subject to the no-fault stand down policy, which requires players to be stood down if they are charged with an offence which carries a maximum prison sentence of 11 years or more.

Previously, players who pleaded not guilty would be allowed to continue playing.

However, the NRL were successfully able to argue that allowing de Belin to play would be damaging to its brand.

The Dragons though are of the opinion that his presence would no longer be as damaging with 18 months passing since he was first stood down and that he could be playing right now.

That is according to the Sydney Morning Herald who spoke with Dragons chief executive Ryan Webb on the issue.

“We think it’s definitely worth asking the question,” Webb told The Herald.

“I don’t think anyone could foresee this taking 18 months to play out, potentially two years.”

It comes as discussions heat up around de Belin’s future with the Warriors reported to be circling.

They are understood to be willing to offer him almost $795,000, which would be a $200,000 pay rise on his current contract at the Dragons despite not playing a game since he was stood down.

While de Belin is unable to travel to New Zealand, he has been in talks with the club using Zoom.

The Dragons also confirmed that they are still confident de Belin could stay at the club and are actively trying to secure his signature.

“Jack came back and said we’re definitely in his considerations moving forward, which is what we wanted to hear,” Webb said.

“Jack has acknowledged that he feels comfortable at the club and appreciates the support the club has given him over the last 18 months.”

With star edge forward Tyson Frizell to leave the club at the end of the year and Corey Harawira-Naera closing in on a deal with the Raiders, the Dragons need some impact up front and de Belin would provide that if found not guilty.

He is due to face trial on rape charges at the end of the year although there is the possibility the charges are thrown out before then with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for later this month.
