    2010 Crowd Watch

12,516 to average 20k. But to beat last year's R1 total, the crowd has to hit 21k on the dot. The equivalent Tigers home match last year managed 17,392. Edit: officially 23,149 at the Rabbitohs game, not 23,500. So that makes 12,867 to average 20k and 21,351 to beat the 2009 R1 total.

    2010 Crowd Watch

Fair to say the Tits haven't turned up either.

    2010 Crowd Watch

That's a rather defeatist attitude. The Broncos have a rails run due to being in a one-team town. Sydney clubs have to scrap and scrape their way to decent crowds. Have a bit of sympathy for those who have to work with a bit of competition.

    2010 Crowd Watch

Maybe those huge trial crowds were a bad thing? Some people might have got their NRL fix for a while at a reduced price, and didn't feel the need to see a home & away game weeks later.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

That detail about the clubs wanting the Storm to cut its costs is new. At least it's intra-league stuff now and not the old News vs ARL bulltish.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Goddo, I appreciate the thought that went into assigning all those roles to the board members, but I don't think the model will work that way. Development, marketing, liaison, financials... these are all roles for employees, not board members. Think about a corporate board, you don't see board...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

It's the NSWRL amendment to the News Ltd model.

Get ready for the Grand Final festival

A fine idea, long overdue. It's going to suck if the GF involves non-Sydney teams though, as there will be friction over how much time the players are expected to spend appearing at events in Sydney. Imagine if it's Broncos v Titans and they're required to spend all week in NSW.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

As bartman said, the devil is now in the detail.

I would have loved to have listened in on that conversation between Livermore and Demetriou.

NRL players at the bottom of the pile - Roy Masters

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Memberships are what should be driving NRL club growth now and in the future. The clubs are slowly getting there but it's painful to watch.

    My NRL TV agreement

I reckon some of these proposed schedules bend over backwards way too much for the networks, and would completely screw up attendance growth. Four live games on FTA? Why would anyone go, especially to night games? There has to be a balance between maximising TV revenue and maximising...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

I don't like it. I don't care if it's the QRL or the NSWRL or News or the clubs or David Merkin Leckie who is holding up the works, heads should be banged together to form a consensus agreement. It would be a great shame if the new era of rugby league was ushered in with yet another example of...

Channel 10 must be sucking up to the NRL - its TV rights negotiation season!

Technically the Lara Bingle story that lead the news is about AFL, since it involves Fevola. So nup, still no NRL lead.

    The TV rights thread

The VFL used to have all six games on Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4:40pm. Different traditions I guess.

    The TV rights thread

Very much agreed. This is probably the best part of the schedule at the moment in terms of using it to attack other programming. Also, don't discount the possibility of Ten showing one game on Ten and the other game on One, with replays of the other to follow. Union have had a lash at that...

    2010: A league odyssey

At the moment they can't agree on the time of day, what makes him think they can agree on eight commissioners without even agreeing on how to choose them?
