Why doesn't the NRL show some initiative and offer 50% off tickets to all West Coast Eagles and Fremantle members? Could be a chance to fill the stadium

Maybe, but Sunday night is normally their highest rating episode so it might be seen as a risk, especially in markets like Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth where primetime NRL is not a guaranteed ratings winner.

Nice idea but where would they find room in the schedule with popular reality franchises like I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Big Brother and Masterchef airing in the timeslot?

A lot of this comes down to an NRL game going for 2 hours and an AFL game going for 3 hours. Naturally casual fans aren’t going to stick around for a full 3 hours if a game is too one-sided. When AFL games were reduced to a 2.5 hour timeslot in 2020 for the COVID affected fixture, average...

It's a ratings thread. The only reason to bring up AFL is in the context of comparison in terms of coverage. A lot of people here are dangerously ill-informed about the intricacies of AFL coverage on FTA which leads to false assumptions and statements being made frequently. My only goal is to...

Are the Tigers/Magpies a genuine premiership contender this year?

Not everyone has pay tv, so it's the general public's loss if they only have one televised sport to choose from on a national public holiday. (Two if you include horse racing)

It's quite amusing you think I'm an "AFL troll" when I have been to Sydney for 7 NRL Grand Finals including 1999 when the mighty Storm destroyed your beloved Illawarra Steelers, causing Anthony Mundine to quit league and switch to boxing.

The AFL is over so I have switched to the NRL to see Eels-Tigers at 18 all with 8 minutes to go. Nine executives would be devastated that this exciting game is not on their network to boost their 6pm News audience.

I can appreciate a good contest regardless of sport. For example, I'm not the biggest fan of Rugby Union and usually find games boring to watch but if a match is hotly contested, with many lead changes, heroic defensive efforts and exciting scoring plays I will tune in. Same applies to AFL and...

It's an epic contest between genuine rivals. Like many here you have a blind hatred of AFL and nothing is going to change that, your loss. My point is its a national public holiday with a large captive audience at home, casual viewers might flick channels and instead of Eels v Tigers on 9 they...

That's because Essendon had zero chance of beating the Bulldogs and the result was beyond doubt at Quarter Time. Today's Hawks-Cats match, however, is a thriller and should keep viewers tuned in from start to finish. Not sure why the NRL wouldn't want to compete with a game on Channel 9?

Why is the Easter Monday clash of Eels v Tigers not on FTA today... it's a big opportunity lost for the NRL when the AFL is on FTA nationally

Easter Monday public holiday and no NRL game on FTA... the Hawks v Cats blockbuster should see astronomical ratings today. The atmosphere at the G sounds electric with 90k screaming fans.

So there will be zero viewers watching the NRL on FTA on the Easter Monday public holiday? Sounds like a huge oversight by PVL Also no game tonight either?

Correct. I know there is an NRL game but I can't see it scheduled on 9 or 9GEM

It's not a problem. Just providing context which is lost on the MENSA candidates here.

I realise comprehension isn't your strong point, so I will repeat this again for your benefit. Each market only received ONE FTA AFL game each. The two NRL games aired in all markets. So it's not a direct comparison and you can cease the self-gratification.
