Official now:

NSW has unveiled a fresh-new side to halt Queensland's three year State of Origin domination - but already there are dramas over the Blues' back-row. Selectors have put a broom through the NSW ranks, with 14 players who turned out for the state in Origin I last year dropped from this year's side.
NSW will send out eight Origin debutants - James McManus, Michael Jennings, Glenn Stewart, Terry Campese, Robbie Farah, Ben Creagh, Michael Weyman and Justin Poore - in a team hell-bent on attacking the Maroons.
Glenn Stewart has been named at lock with Luke O'Donnell and Paul Gallen in the second-row - but Stewart and Gallen find themselves in doubt for the June 3 opener at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.
NSW team for State of Origin I on June 3 in Melbourne:
Kurt Gidley (c), James McManus, Jamie Lyon, Michael Jennings, Jarryd Hayne, Terry Campese, Peter Wallace, Brent Kite, Robbie Farah, Luke Bailey, Paul Gallen, Luke O’Donnell, Glenn Stewart. Interchange: Craig Wing, Justin Poore, Michael Weyman, Ben Creagh

Gallen though is in doubt for the game after having an MRI scan yesterday on a shoulder injury sustained playing for Cronulla against St George Illawarra last Saturday.
He has told Cronulla officials the bruising could settle after four days - or four weeks.
Stewart was yesterday charged with a grade one dangerous throw on Gold Coast five-eighth Mat Rogers during Sunday's match at Skilled Park.

He is facing a one match suspension - ruling him out of Origin I with Manly having the bye this weekend. Stewart must plead not guilty and fight the charge at an judiciary hearing tomorrow night to have any chance of playing.
He is expected to be represented by leading Sydney SC Geoff Bellew.
O'Donnell's inclusion meant the omission of Australian back-rower Anthony Laffranchi, who played for the Kangaroos against New Zealand just three weeks ago.

Last year's team for State of Origin I:
Brett Stewart, Jarryd Hayne, Mark Gasnier, Matt Cooper, Anthony Quinn, Greg Bird, Peter Wallace, Brett White, Danny Buderus (capt), Ben Cross, Ryan Hoffman, Willie Mason, Paul Gallen. Interchange: Anthony Laffranchi, Anthony Tupou, Craig Fitzgibbon, Ben Hornby.

I admit I'm biased, but Lewis 18th man?
That's a f**king disgrace, IMO.
He should have been one of the first players picked, based on form.
Oh well, at least we will have him in the Dragons game I believe, unless someone is injured/suspended. Thanks you useless NSW selectors.

Nope. Apparently he is 18th man and we can't use him against the Dragons. He will likely replace Gallen or Stewart if they're out, if not he will just be on standby.

At anyrate, they won't pick him, but they have prevented us from doing so.

Oh, my understanding was 18th men could be picked for their clubs.
Guess I was wrong (I couldn't remember from last time).
Thanks mxlegend.
Either way, it's a joke IMO. Lewis has been on fire.

A disgrace on two counts :x Not picking him and then denying us his services. Anything to jerk Penrith around.

Glenn Stewart's Origin hopes in doubt

AAP Mon, 25 May 2009 20:20:08
Manly backrower Glenn Stewart's State of Origin debut is under serious threat after he was charged with a dangerous throw by the NRL match review panel on Monday.
Stewart, who has played five Tests for Australia, was named by NSW selectors on the interchange bench of the side to face Queensland at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.
But a grade one dangerous throw charge for a tackle on Gold Coast five-eighth Mat Rogers in the Sea Eagles' 18-17 loss on Sunday has cast a dark cloud over his Origin hopes.
Stewart is facing a one-game ban even if he enters an early guilty plea, and a suspension would see him ruled out of the match.
The only way Stewart can line up next week is if he successfully contests the charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.
NSW coach Craig Bellamy said on Monday night Penrith's Luke Lewis, who was named as the Blues' 18th man, would come into the side if Stewart is ruled out.

How the f**k did McManus make the side? I thought players had to be a bit better than mediocre to make a rep team.

What about some Queensland ones Tim? (Not that you want to post them lol!).

Yeah....I guess McManus has great defence, but really I think Monaghan should have been in the wings somewhere.
Like what did Monaghan do wrong last year? They've already got two new centres...lot of changing.

They clearly don't as the likes of Turner and Quinn made the side last year, and Queensland have picked players like Adam Mogg and Dallas Johnson.

In any case, I don't think McManus is mediocre, even though I would have picked Monaghan instead.

New South Wales: Loving the fact Queensland think they've already won the series.
