18th club, whose next?

For any perth team fully owned and operated here. This is the thing. Everyone here who follows NRL already has a team. The new team will be trying to get them to change their colours which isn't an easy thing to do. They will need to be an attractive option to do so. A Sydney club waltzing in telling everyone how things are done will only may them less attractive.
People are very parochial here, they booed Gilly when he played for Australia at the waca because he took Zoehers spot. It's backwards but it's real, Qlders are the same

Expansion to Perth is not about these people in my view.

People already following another club will likely stick with that club and support Perth (no matter of ownership and name) as a natural (after a few years) second side. Which is what we see in Melbourne.

We need to pull interest from those not already watching the game.

What happens if Biden is voted out?

Trump pulls the funding as he looks inwards, and the NRL is left looking amateur?
Apparently NSW Labor have been pushing for a PNG team since 2018.

Ex Labor politicians Peter Beattie and Kate Jones are on the ARLC.

Everything is lining up for PNG to get the 18th licence.

I believe it's wrong for Labor to interfere in the NRL's business and it will come back to bite them on the arse at some stage, especially if it leads to one of the other Australians bids missing out. It doesn't help that there's a cost of living crisis in the country. People in Caboolture forced to live in tents. Labor is on the nose in Queensland and look like losing the state election. The last thing Albo can afford to do is get Queensland RL fans offside.

What happens when Perth has a losing season & it's mystery businessmen go belly up?!

Being linked to an already established ownership in the bears will help protect against this type of thing.

Albeit, it’s almost impossible to go broke with the level of funding the clubs get from the NRL.

When does Albo’s position go to the polls again ?.

NRL will do due diligence. If money isn't iron clad or with some clause providing considerable compensation it won't happen.

Expansion clubs can definitely fail, particularly in markets where the sport has a low profile. There's a reason the NRL picked wealthy dolphins last round.

They'd also be hoping that Brisbane 3 is team 20 and want to go alone.

NSW teams know that they have to relocate. Jets were mentioned but don't bring junior pathways etc
I didn't know that about Newtown. How do they bring juniors through into their NSW Cup side without pathways teams?

Money for PNG team is provided by Biden. It's for purpose of countering china & that only. Albo not taking tax payer money from schools, hospitals etc.
U.S national debt as at mid May $34.5 trillion dollars. The pace of that growing debt is equally stunning approx. 1 trillion dollars added every 100 days.. Good luck with the Yanks paying for PNG. Especially as Biden's polling is down the crapper.
