18th club, whose next?

For the game's sake I hope the $600m funding package leads to an influx of PNG juniors playing in the NRL over the next decade. If $600m fails to convert PNG's talent into NRL players then nothing will.

The question remains, what happens when the funding is withdrawn?

Does the ARLC have any plans to add the PNGRFL to the commission and give them the same status as the QRL and NSWRL?

Well I can't say I agree with PNG but if that's what the powers decide is in the best interests for the game, so be it.

Best part is the funding across the south pacific so not just PNG. Hopefully this stocks the player ranks that further expansion is possible.

Armchair general time, if I was the ARLC I would have a phased expansion plan.

Phase 1: 18-20
- PNG Hunters
- Perth Bears
- South Island Kea
Phase 2: 20-22
- Brisbane 3
- Wellington Orcas
Phase 3: 22-24
- Sunshine Coast Falcons
- Adelaide Rams/Melbourne 2

In the long run 2 conferences with a top 6, first week finals within the conference then it opens up between conferences higher ranked teams home.

Bob Katter won't like it. He hates crocodiles.

I love the selection of expansion, (but maybe have a Fiji team instead somewhere) but im not keen with the conference split, way too lop sided for the Sydney teams to all be in one conference, it will end up being a massive advantage towards player recruitment and retention

Did think about it which is the reason why Perth Bears go in the NSW centric group. Anyway once we get past 20 teams either finals to 10 or conferences will have to happen.

Yeah thats garbage, you wanted a nswrl comp revived again basically... im not having a go at you, I get the nostalgia factor, but just it's pretty clear that's what you were going for.. if there wasn't any expansion teams it's not an issue but there is, places like Townsville, Wollongong, Newcastle, Gold Coast and Canberra, find it extremely difficult to hold onto star players, to put the bulk of them in one conference, would skew them, and make it even harder, plus adding Png, Adelaide and Perth even worse.
A better 2 comp conference, would split Sydney in half, a create an equator any side north of homebush (Accor stadium) in one conference and south in the other, it will ultimately and immediately even out inconsistency in the pooled clubs with travel and strength of schedule, thus players won't be so driven to head for a sydney only conference (due to perks of less travel etc)

Public sentiment is not in favour of the PNG NRL rort. This will come back to haunt our game.
I was just watching a video from Souths Logan Magpies Hostplus QLD Cup PNG player Kingstimer Paraia, it showed the team arriving a Port Moresby, at the team hotel, travelling to the Stadium and after the win against the Hunters today.
Good view, but a PNG NRL team has a long way to go.
