The Jets merger might be more appealing considering they’re not pushing for games to be played in Sydney. Also, PNG needs infrastructure built so waiting 12-24 months to get it done properly is smart

They also don't bring any junior development programs with them

There’s no NRL team on the south side of Brisbane, which includes Cleveland to the East, Ipswich to the West and Logan to the south. The Titans are somehow entrenched in Logan but not sure where the boundary is.
Logan is approx 380k, Redlands 170k and Ipswich 275k. Brisbane LGA is around 1.2m, so easily 500k live on the southside.

TLDR: SEQ needs a west/southside team as team 21
A team doesn't need to have the suburb name in it to represent that suburb, this isn't sydney.

The broncos were/are the team for brisbane and even the team for qld for nearly 20 years.
I grew up in NW qld and never met a real cowboys fan til the 2004 finals run. Not to say they weren't supported but probably everyone's second team behind the bronx.

Brisbane needed a second team no doubt and the dolphins nearly stuffed it up by not having brisbane in the name and playing 3 games a year at kayo.
We don't need a version of manly in brisbane, we need a second version of the broncos.

We also don't need to go chasing invisible afl bogeyman and putting in small teams that splits brisbane for no gain.

I know the Brisbane landscape pretty well and I know there are more non-Broncos/anti-Broncos fans here than Broncos fans.

you’re right, the team doesn’t need to be called South or West Brisbane or Ipswich but greater Brisbane is so underrepresented when NSW has 11 clubs

And where will this south brisbane side play? Suncorp is the only place a brisbane side should play.
What is stopping these rugby league supporters from going to suncorp when their team is playing or to any of the 20 games there a year currently?

Why will another team slightly geographically closer to them with no history be needed or even persuade these people to abandon the teams they currently follow if 3 other clubs in close proximity hasn't done it?

Just because sydney is overcrowded doesn't mean we need to do the same in brisbane with small geographically isolated teams.

There were successes like a 50% win/loss record in their debut season. They were inconsistent as any new team is, but there was often promise. They lost players due to the SL War, including their captain Brad Mackay. Mark Geyer was often suspended. The mercurial Julien O'Neill tore some games apart. Geyer and Chris Ryan were quickly cult figures and recognisable to the non initiated.

The perception through rose coloured glasses is that is a regretful "what could have been". Had Perth had a proper rectangular stadium in the 90s, had the Reds not been saddled with the blatantly unfair and crippling flight and accommodation costs for them and the oppositions 1st and reserves. That there were some Reds who won a premiership with Melbourne 2 seasons after they were gutted.

Mostly they felt like they were ours, and many Perth people well beyond the Rugby League community are still sentimental about the club, colours, and mascot. Not bad for a mediocre to poorly performing club that only lasted 3 seasons 26 years ago. That's a success in its own right
Fans in the east coast think we would relate more to the bears though. 😅

I’m

he did specially say joint venture and I provided the link and comment

It states “joint-venture relocation model” which I’d argue is completely different to the traditional understanding of what a joint venture in Rugby League is.

For me the jets are better than the bears because there should be no requirements for sydney home games but we also don't need another blue side tbh.

Best case is for perth to get their own team, own brand but also the pirates just aint it either. Has to be something different to that.

Because it’s a huge growth coridoor where future population will go just like the northern coridoor is a huge growth coridoor which the dolphins will exploit

It's publicly available is it? So you can provide an actual source right?

And yeah you do let your biases get in the way. You believe Murdoch trash without any quotes because it suits you.

The ACTUAL source is News Limited. Can you not read?

Or are you too dumb or poor to find it yourself?

That's a big part of the excitement of starting a new club. Engaging with the community (Perth, not Sydney) in choosing the badge, colours etc.

I do like the pirates though.

“The league will take the next step towards expansion in coming weeks, with a bidding process to be unveiled following the next ARL Commission meeting on June 26.”

Absolutely on-the-field-football competitiveness is a criteria that will be assessed and analysed," the NRL CEO said at the Beanies for Brain Cancer launch.

"So the ability to invest in infrastructure, a centre of excellence that creates a high performance centre, investment in pathways and talent development.

"And then obviously the recruitment of football staff appropriate to get a team that can win on the field. That is absolutely a criteria that will be assessed.”

While the Bears link has dominated talk there is some reluctance at the Western Australian government level to join forces with North Sydney. Instead, Newtown have been quietly building their own case in the background and have forged strong relationships with the powerbrokers in Western Australia.

Sources close to the discussions acknowledged that Newtown may be a favourable partner should Western Australia be unable to become a stand-alone franchise. The Jets have also been working on financial backers to help with their return.

Perth consortium members held top-level talks with ARL Commissioner Peter Beattie in WA last week as they looked to turn up the heat on powerbrokers to prioritise their entry over PNG.

The Perth bid has several factors in its favour, most significantly their appeal to broadcasters because of the favourable time zone – the NRL’s broadcast deal ends in 2027. Adding Perth as the 18th team would also give the NRL more time to ensure the PNG bid strengthens its pathways and has time to be successful.

It is believed the $600 million commitment from the federal government would remain in place as long as PNG remained in the frame for entry to the competition.

Where is @final say @Wb1234 and @Matt_CBY who were talking absolute shit yesterday about how Bears had taken the Perth licence and the NRL had no interest in involving anyone else.

Maybe next time don't act like you are insiders when all you did was read some article.

A journo making shit up isn't a source.

Notice how the exact same newspaper is now claiming it has no chance. And guess what, neither article has a single quote verifying the shit they wrote. They just made up shit because gullible fools like you hand over money to read the shit they make up.

Also, imagine trying to insult someone when you pay for the daily telegraph.

My response was firmly tongue in cheek to one of the fools on here who calls the Bears a failed Sydney team, a team with over 100 years of history.
Seriously what an idiot, and if the Bears are failures what are the Jets, last season in NSWRL was 1983.
