18th club, whose next?

Would the ARLC be pushing for 20 teams by 2032 if it wasn't f**ked over by Ch9 and Foxtel at the last broadcast rights negotiation?

I think they're doing this because it's the only way they can bring money into the game and take attention away from their blunder. If it helps us get 20 clubs then it'll be the best broadcast rights deal in the history of the game.

I have told you I don't know how many times that you are comparing 2031 money to 2023 money.

Until you understand how inflation works then there is no point talking to you
until you understand what an average amount is , you can moan about inflation til the cows come home because its irrelevant... much like the points you make.

Perths on a pacific island, maybe they’ll play some games here lol
no need for 20 clubs. Perth pasifika bears playing in 12 locations. Sounds as sensible as what’s being proposed so far!

The great irony of the Liberals current predicament is that it was their great hero John Howard who started weeding out the `wets` in the Liberal party back in the 90`s that has led them to be being this unelectable party of the far right now.
The Labor party are doing to them now on social justice issues what the Liberals did to them on border security- very successfully I might add- not that long ago.
I'm no fan of the Liberals, nor Labour for that matter, but you dead set don't know the meaning of far right if you truly think the Liberals are far right in any meaningful sense of the term.

Broadly speaking they're probably best described as run of mill corrupt neocons, and whatever we may think of them, neocons aren't even close to the true far right.

Furthermore, the Overton window has swung aggressively to the left over the last 15-20 years, and particularly the last 10 years, but it will inevitably swing back.

Yes even when I typed that I knew it was a bit of hyperbole but I couldn`t be arsed changing it. Having said that ` far right ` is of course a relative term and at heart characters like Dutton, Abbot, and some of those other christian ratbags in the Liberal Party would have some pretty extremist values which they would love to see implemented but know it would be political suicide in this day and age.

How is it irrelevant? Your average includes contra too btw

NRL is $400m cash in 2023
The next AFL deal on 2023 figures is $430m - Take out contra and the deals are on par.

hence why inflation counts.

The 2028 NRL TV will cover inflation for 2032 also. Which will make it look higher than it is in reality too.

The problem with the relevance argument is that you are applying inflation on the upcoming fumbles deal to make it look worse and not applying it to the current NRL deal, in essence to make it look better. It’s completely disingenuous.

Your counter argument against the fumbles deal going up by 30 odd percent and the difference between the two deals by 2025 onwards being massive when it wasn’t before, is that inflation will swallow up their deal (it won’t but anyway). That’s fine to make that argument against the fumbles but you have to apply that argument to the NRL deal if you want to make it relevant. By 2027, inflation at 3% will well and truly cover any increase (which was minimal) and relatively the game would be going backwards.

Face it. However you want to spin it, the current NRL deal is a dud. Hence why we are talking about expansion and bringing in more content. If they thought it was a good deal then we wouldn’t be talking about it. They know themselves that it is a dud

I’d call it ‘duddish’. Could have been better. Caught out in a once in a life time circumstance and should have waited longer before signing off. The trick is how we configure the next deal. I’m confident we won’t get dudded again.

I’m pretty confident too. The key will be getting competitive tension which considering our ratings we should be getting.
