Snakes are not very marketable as a sports brand! That’s quite a good name. Perth Venom. Pythons wouldn’t be too bad either

Welcome to the conversation. All good points, except pirates name. I like the name and it is a very marketable brand. Also WA had Australia’s only official pirate.

It is indeed, but seeing as he gave no reason why he thought it isnt aGood name I thought I’d share why, in my opinion, it is a good name. That’s your opinion about the Pirates. Same as he doesn’t like the Pirates. It’s called an opinion
Apparently it’s not a png team, it’s a multi national pacific island team. Forwards from Samoa and tonga, wingers from Fiji, hookers and centres from png, half backs from Micronesia. Sorted lolI cannot see this "Pasika" idea getting anywhere. Anyone stupid enough to promote it is an ignoramus who doesn't understand PNG.
- Only 1 in 5 Papuan New Guineans earn a wage
- GDP per capita is US$3.5k
- There's no road connection between its major cities.
- Primary means of transportation is air travel.
- 4 out of 5 people do not have access to electricity and survive on subsistence farming.
- The terrain is mountainous and inundated with tropical downpours. No bitumen roads makes it almost impossible to traverse by car.
- Papuans are among the shortest people in the world. Men stand at an average height of 5'4". Good luck developing a forward pack that can compete against players who are over 5'10".
Yeah, I don’t expect Venom to be everyone’s cup of tea. My personal opinion on Pirates is that there is no connection to the area (I think BJ Anderson is a very loose link) and I actually really liked Reds and think it is the best option.Welcome to the conversation. Force have incorporated the black swan already,Yeah, I don’t expect Venom to be everyone’s cup of tea. My personal opinion on Pirates is that there is no connection to the area (I think BJ Anderson is a very loose link) and I actually really liked Reds and think it is the best option.
Venom may be spider if not a snake. I agree that snake doesn’t seem to be the most appealing mascot.
There are probably laws preventing use of the swan in the name otherwise it would have been taken already by a few, but maybe Perth Blacks as a reference to the Swan.
In any case, the mascot is a minor concern and if it had to be Pirates, then that wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Whether I would admit them before NZII, I can’t make my mind up.
Yeah I agree the Pirates is very marketable. Good with kids. I’m not precious on it, could probably be convinced.Force have incorporated the black swan already,
reds was a great brand and would love to see it back, I could dig out my old jerseys lol
pirates I do like as well though for the commercial opportunities and uniqueness in australian sport. As having Australias only pirate there is a pretty good link. Disney made pirates even cooler.

In search of pirate Black Jack
Ruthless, murderous and cruel yet charismatic and passionate, Black Jack Anderson ruled the islands and waters off WA's Recherche Archipelago in the early 1800s.thewest.com.au
WA’s pirate history revealed in a new exhibition at the WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle | Western Australian Museum
Western Australia’s little-known pirate past comes alive in a new exhibition opening at the WA Maritime Museum tomorrow (24 March). Horrible Histories – Pirates: the exhibition features Australia’s worst pirate, John “Black Jack” Anderson, who terrorised ships off WA’s south coast.museum.wa.gov.au
if I was nrl I’d open up bids from both areas and see what comes along. There may be a bid in perth or Wellington that proves irresistible but if they don’t open the opportunity they aren’t going to know. either would beneficial to the game in different ways.

1. It has a relevance to WA
2. it is a very marketable brand
3. it’s unique in pro sport in australia
4. kids love pirate merch
5. you can create some great merch to boost revenue
6. there’s a lot you can do with game day experience stuff as pirates
I’d be quite happy to see Reds back though for sure.
What does everyone think of this idea for Pacific pathway? The part I really like is that it does offer high quality player pathway opportunities for local residents that should see RL take an even bigger stranglehold on the region. There is plenty of talk about improving political connections/relations in the Pacific and it shouldn’t be outside the realms of opportunity to source both Aus and US government funding support for this idea.I did hear one very good idea that would see the formation of a Pacific RL, similar to NSWRL and QRL. Move the Hunters and Silktails into this new comp, joined by Tongan, Samoan, Warriors reserves and NZII teams. Slim numbers, you may even conference the whole 2nd tier to include cross NSWRL/QRL/PRL fixtures. A fantastic opportunity to set a pathway for Pacific Islanders.
That’s the biggest issue for a nz2 club, being viable as a second sport in a smallish city. There really isnt a city big enough, hence why the dual city idea keeps being put forward. Wellington would be the obvious choice but has the worse stadium option. The cities with the better stadiums are seemingly too small to generate the $15mill a year revenue a nrl club needs When nrl will be the second sport in that city.Yeah I agree the Pirates is very marketable. Good with kids. I’m not precious on it, could probably be convinced.
Being a “rusted on AFL state” could go against it under the current administration.
Where does that NZ team base itself? I would expect in Canterbury with a new purpose built rectangular stadium on its way and perhaps using the old RL Park as a base/HQ for RL tradition sake.
Honestly, I would like to see the NRL build a strong enough case to admit both by ‘27, but they are not exactly flush with cash that they can follow the money put strategy of the AFL for the Giants and Suns.
Quokkas lolFair enough. I am not super into the Pirates moniker (probably because of the Disney aspect that you mentioned) but I don’t think logos are super important.
If they were you wouldn’t think many of the competition’s existing team logos would work.
Is there anything really unique to West Australia that you could market other than the Swan?
