But that’s the thing though: why do you think anybody from NZ plays Super Rugby? They play it to try and play for the All Blacks. That’s what you are up against.

For example, why do you think that Benji Marshall or RTS or SBW defected to union? Do you think they defected to go because they wanted to play for the Auckland Blues or the Crusaders etc?

Do you think Sualii or Mario Koribeite or Vunivalu or Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuquiri before them defected to go and play for the crappy Super Rugby franchises. Of course not.

Every league player who goes, goes for money and the opportunity to play international rugby. It is clearly a bigger international sport. That’s their trump card
All that is true but means nothing to the week to week punters who want to watch domestic rugby of the highest quality.

sure all blacks are king but they only play so many times a year in NZ and even less in Christchurch.

let union be kings of international rugby and nrl #1 at domestic level.

Apples and Oranges.
NRL is played every week , soon to be 9 games a week for 26 weeks.
They don't need to stop watching the handful of All blacks games to still follow NRL.

Union ignoring the club competition will lead to the demise at international level

let them focus on intentionals whilst league takes over at club level

I think you guys are severely delusional if you think a second team in NZ is suddenly going to topple RU over there. Even more so when you have had a side over there for nearly 30 years and it hasn’t made any significant difference in the scheme of things.

The All Blacks are ingrained in the NZ culture as much as fumbleball is to Victorians.

The benefits of a second team in NZ would be great sure. Let’s all take a chill pill and be realistic though.

Well it is a bit significant, particularly if you are up against that for player talent.

It’s a good idea except for the bit about the Warriors reserves playing there which would just gut the Warriors depth as their reserves wouldn’t be playing against the same caliber of opposition as the rest of the NRLs reserve teams. They need to stay in NSW Cup.
Thats the issue with Perth getting in

I been saying this for yonks, the Warriors should have been as big and as successful as the Broncos were in their first twenty years, I can only imagine how that might have changed the landscape over there if they`d won 6 premierships , or even 4 and maybe lost a couple.
I think we would have really seen the dent that League could have put in union then.

Going to super league killed off all their early momentum.

I’m not claiming NRL will topple union more like carve out a following for a domestic NRL club.

Your talking small percentage of talent spread over a decade, lets say 1 or 2 a year, imagine all the talent who aren't thinking of making it, or are not eligible from the other pacific islands, NRL is a better comp to get to 1st grade for longer and for more money if your are talented enough to last, its the elite guys that defect only to go for the all blacks fame, but only a few converts really make it, among only the small squad, RTS will be lucky to get a look in, Su'alii going to wallabies for enormous cash only to sit on a wing, what he going to do during the year, club rugby if fkn dreadful

It’s all about the numbers game for me.

so what if a few go to union every few years when you are churning out a dozen or more every year from NZ, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.
