I agree mate. I was taking the p***

I’m sure most people, if they are following a team because of a specific area are going to say nope I’m not going for them because I don’t like the logo
Its not the logo tho, its the concept vs the region
That just doesn't fly... can you imagine the english international side saying sorry lions arent native in england, so lets get another local sparrow or some shithouse bird... a lion is a very strong symbol and logo, its up there with a tiger, bull and bear, to knock that chance to promote a brand that strong, when you wont even need to verse a courtcase to get it involved in a century old competition is a goldmine..
How many times has another code or sport challenged the use of a brand IP due to it being the same as theirs, pride could remain the same just get promoted into the NRL and nobody could challenge it as theyve been in operation since 2007.
Instant lion branding without the leg work
You all know how much the NRL love their brands right, this is a no brainer ...

Will their be a pride jersey?
you can’t see the irony of calling the most homophobic team in the comp that name Lol?

That’s interesting. They would be an obvious useful addition to a PRL. I would be very surprised if there is enough talent to create a New Caledonian team capable for winning a match in any of the Sydney A grade comps, let alone be competitive with QRL sides.

A great addition though if they can pull it off. Might be a handy leg up for the French national team.
The FFRXIII are behind the bid.

Hopefully it is accepted by the QRL.

Why do people keep say that Wellington or Christchurch aren't big enough to sustain an NRL team?

Completely false.

They are both substantially bigger than Townsville...
Of course their reach goes outside of Townsville to all of North Queensland
But that's still substantially less also to all of NZ outside of Auckland..

As I watch a sold out Cowboys game...

Rugby league is a religion in North Queensland. In New Zealand it is a niche sport.

Have I?

If that’s the case then I’m sure you can tell me why baseball hasn’t taken over cricket in this country
Club competition dominates sports relying upon intentionals

eg a league soccer or super rugby

Rugby League has taken over Union in Australia.
Rugby league comes directly from getting people to come over from Union. Successfully!

Nowhere has Rugby League been able to get people over from AFL .

100% of the population are winnable in NZ ( they can still watch the 6 or so game the all blacks play 🙄)

80% of the population of Perth will never take to League.

Union fans = attainable.

AFL fans = Unattainable.

We have over 100 years of experience in this 🙄

the average cash deal is
550 mill to 400 mill in

25/26/ & 2027
so they're comparable

now off to the TV media rights deal with this before the mods intervene

Again you aren't adding inflation to the NRL deal.

The NRL deal is $400m now - That increases by roughly $12m every season. Hence why the salary cap is able to increase every year.

The AFL announced the total amount of the package. As such it won't start at $550m ( which includes contra)

Given that allows for 9 years into the future. The next TV deal going 10 years in advance with the 9th game. Gets $550m cash easily and as such the going early to speed up expansion was a right call.

I don't think it matters to TV where that 18th team is based because the other clubs are flying now and the other fans are watching

As I said, no idea of people in Perth. No idea in general actually.
I lived in Perth for 3 years. Knowing people in Perth has nothing to do with it. The AFL has a strong comp, 9 games every week in an exciting fast game, loads of cash. The Eagles and Dockers aren't going anywhere and neither are thier fans, if anything the AFL may even ad a side there .
Rugby league won't pick up any AFL fans.
Super rugby is failing, they are losing fans without even having a rival...
And there's another Rugby ( the strongest and biggest rugby comp in the world) on thier doorstep.

You don’t need to convert every AFL fan in Perth or every Union fan in New Zealand for an NRL club to be successful. Contrary to popular belief, football supporters of all codes are a minority of the population. Dockers vs West Coast attracts about 300,000 live and TV viewers. At least 1 million people in Perth don’t follow AFL. I’m not saying they’ll all support NRL either.

But you just need about 10% of the population to do so for a Perth NRL club to have a fan base size similar to existing NRL clubs. Honestly, I think they will double that. As for New Zealand, there are 3.9 million people on the North Island, about half of them outside of Auckland. So again, it’s not about toppling Union, it’s about getting that 10% to support the club and about 3% to regularly attend games. Again - very achievable.

We can do both, Perfh and NZ2, but it will all be for naught, if we dont have the player stock to give these teams enough talent or lead tine to get thar talent, remember these aren't areas that league is a heartland, like the dolphins inclusion was...
Both are able to produce results... its why im a believer of the pasific bid coming in first bolstering that player pool, then adding those important markets after

Fine then not the ones on the logo...
Swapped for knights in Newcastle then, seriously tho, cant talk about mascots relevance to a team sport vs region they are from, and then say there aint no lions in tonga etc
Well im pretty sure lions dont roam the streets in brisbane yet the AFL and A-League have them as mascots...
The Northern Pride could have many meaning a Pride is a group of lions, it kinda fits well to me a group of talented Pacific Islands in regards to Rugba lieg
I just think we can do so much better, more "nuanced" as @Colk made reference to elsewhere.
The truly iconic logos for me are the ones that have some basis in the region they represent, for example; Western Suburbs Magpie`s, what backyard in the western suburbs of Sydney doesn`t have that plucky, proud bird with the beautiful call on their lawn every day; Rabbitohs, named after the rabbit meat sellers who traversed the inner-city suburbs of depression era Sydney with their cry of " Rabbitoh".
No, if I was going to name a Pacific team I`d go with something strongly associated with that region but still has that inference to the strength of the Lion which you like. Chiefs is already done, Hurricanes likewise, Pasifika I think is not a bad name either as it is something all the P.I. have in common.
How about another reference to the sea with something like Pacific Tide, you know like the line "(time) and Tide wait for no man", or maybe a common reference - if one can be found - to the Pacific Islander war canoes.
Either way I think the opportunity is there to create something iconic that is indelibly associated with the region that would get people talking and thinking.

BTW, St. George aren`t meant to be the Dragons, we were the brave knight St. George who slayed the Dragon, like on the logo I wore as a boy, actually slaying the Dragon instead of riding along next to it as in the modern logo.
