Again you could make that argument for Warriors, Cowboys, GC hell even Canberra yet none can recruit consistently to stay at the top

They should certainly be one of the next 3 in but there is work to do
Perth is in AFL territory, on the West Coast of Australia and way out of the spotlight of the rugby league mad supporter unlike those other areas you mentioned with the exception of the Warriors.

The PNG Govt being behind the bid must have plans for that. You have to think the Aust govt wouldn't be backing it without that

I guess that is behind the hub based in Australia to make it safer
You’d like to hope so, two of the boys were over just last night having a few drinks before going out, if was real eye opening listening to the trip over there.
Even though it was only a Host Plus Q Cup game all of the PNG fans knew who they were, they couldn’t leave their gear unchecked for even a second and if somebody wanted to go to the toilet at the airport security had to make sure nobody was in there and then let the team go in and stop anybody else from entering until the team were finished, and that was just at the airport.
They said it wasn’t scary and they never felt threatened though.
Some funny stories though.

I don't understand why you think that the PNG Gov can suddenly make Port Moresby safe?

It hasn't shown any inkling or ability to make it safe now, why would a NRL team change that?

It isn't so much making it safer as a whole. Just those around the NRL setup.

PNG is number 2 dangerous in the world. South Africa is number 3 - that is what gives me hope.

It is a crime riddled, fairly poor country and they have hosted Soccer and Rugby World Cups.

Still have countries tour for cricket without incident, same too with Rugby. So PNG should be capable of hosting 10 NRL games a year, running a CoE etc without incident

I think the govt will lead it but the sponsors, Fox Sports ( or whoever has the TV rights ), NRL, Aust Government other sponsors won't let their staff get hurt. More than likely a gate community or something that shields them from the trouble

I think it could be a small barrier trying to get more from broadcasters by sending them to a third world country...

No way any Gov is going to fund a $300M stadium in Cairns, for a few games of NRL AND pour in $25M+ annually for said clubs running costs.

Imagine Cairns (my home town by the way) having a world class stadium for a transient team in a town of 150k, with QCBS in Townsville.

It's just not remotely feasible in terms of economics, politics or logistics.

And that are we trying to achieve? Increased development opportunities for PNG locals?

Why not spend $5M per annum on developing the game further there then half a billion on a NRL team that doesn't increase the TV deal or corporate sponsorship.
That's what I was getting at. Where on earth doing you home base that team ? And why chew into the Cows's fan base?
The Feds should spend money on rugby league sporting facilities in PNG ,health programs for their youngsters and anti domestic violence programs.Other infrastructure.

Which is why I see it has to be Bris or Syd if is base.

Hopefully that money is locked in regardless or being team 18, 19 or 30

It's not the same, SA has a significant middle class and quite a lot of wealth to go with the shocking poverty and crime. It also has a level of infrastructure to support this. Whilst there is 3rd world conditions in the shanty towns, it's not all third world.

Mind you, even this is deteriorating pretty rapidly, and it's getting unsafer and more corrupt by the day.

There's nothing in Perth.
Boring, irrelevant, small city in the middle of nowhere- literally the most isolated city in the world.
Lol yeh, wineries, snorkelling, amazing river, mountain biking trails, ability to actually get around the city in reasonable travel times, great public transport, world class sports and event facilities, great food and beach side vibes, no pokie dens. Reasonable priced housing, amazing weather, highest wealth. Yeh nothing here for anyone,
maybe if your a coke head who wants to be getting wrecked at 1am on a Sunday night it’s not for you, but that’s not how most judge quality of life lol

and for your next trivia quiz Honolulu is actually the most isolated big city (by distance to next major city) in the world.

How many years did it take the Warriors to get up a going ?, how many times did they nearly close their doors ?.
The Warriors changed their colours to that of their national team, they straightened the tongue on their logo because of bad juju, they couldn’t attract local players who would rather play with Australian clubs and now the Warriors are having a good season in 2023 people want another NZ team on the opposite side of the island in the rugby mad zone lol.
Started one year before Super League, took 6 years to make the finals (first club out of the ones admitted in that expansion to do so). Made the GF and win the minor premiership the following year.

to be fair, all those things are on the east coast except maybe the affordable housing. Everyone in Perth wants to live close to the beach though, surely that's not cheap? WA has some of the most beautiful clean beaches in the world however the surf isn't very good, far better on the east and south coast, plus there's more great whites over there.
