The fact the Broncos and Dolphins are the two largest rugby league clubs in the world proves there's room for growth in Brisbane. It's absurd to suggest a Perth-based team that'll be no bigger than Sydney's smallest club should be parachuted in ahead of the Brisbane Tigers.

There's very little benefit to adding a team from Perth.

  • Neglible amount of juniors and NRL talent.
  • Small fanbase
  • Poor TV ratings
  • Poor stadium
  • Terrible time zone
  • Conservative market that's 30 to 40 years behind Brisbane in terms of culture and development

You won't like hearing it, but the gap between Brisbane and Perth is growing wider each year. Brisbane is now a world renowned city attracting an ever increasing amount of interest from tourists and property developers. There's a reason the cost of living in Brisbane is significantly higher than Perth. Everyone wants to live here. Perth lacks the infrastructure and clout.

While Brisbane is hosting the 2032 Olympics, Perth is forced to run a joint bid with Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games because it lacks the infrastructure and clout to hold them on their own. Gold Coast will get the premium events like swimming, showcasing how far behind Perth is on the social hierarchy.

The best thing our game can do is muscle in on Brisbane and Sydney because they're very lucrative markets. No one gives a f**k about Adelaide and Perth.

Are you really suggesting that Brisbane is some sort of cultural epoch or world city? Are you serious?

You really need to go travelling.

If PNG gets the 18th licence it will be on the back of a long-term contract between the Aus Gov and ARLC. The risk-adverse ARLC won't f**k this up.

You have too much faith in authority. Essentially nobody knows because you do not know what the government will be in the medium term and you don’t know what the priorities will be.

And what happens when the LNP get back into govt and wonder why the f**k we are paying for a professional sports team in PNG and end the funding?

And who is paying the millions of dollars each year for charter flights for the home and away teams? Oh and you like to talk about travel to Perth, but 13 teams need to travel as far, if not further to get to Port Moresby. Why is that no longer a problem?

If they think a contract is all it takes, I'd recommend they read about French subs.

You really need to go travelling.

It's the only Australian city that can say it's hosted the Commonwealth Games, Goodwill Games, Olympic Games, NRL GF and AwFuL GF. It's the birthplace of Australia's largest sporting event. State of Origin.

The Brisbane International is back due to popular demand. It was always more popular than the Sydney International, Hopman Cup and Adelaide International.

Brisbane is greener than every other capital city in Australia, bar Hobart. People don't want to live in concrete jungles. Beautiful beaches less than 2 hours away on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Moreton Bay is home to beautiful sand islands that attract tourists and residents. SEQ is truly unique and has everything.

Well that and the fact they have everywhere in Australia covered. You have to sell the product directly to people in order to advertise.
AwFuL clubs have four times as many members and twice as many people attending their games. That would appeal to sponsors more than dots on a map.

The money will be coming from the foreign aid budget. It'll redistribute funds from other foreign aid programs that don't provide any meaningful results.

Will LNP want to risk getting on the wrong side of Queenslanders and New South Welshmen?

Or PNG?

He said brisbane is growing more than Perth

nice Strawman though

No he said these things:.

Brisbane is now a world renowned city attracting an ever increasing amount of interest from tourists and property developers.

Everyone wants to live here.

Conservative market that's 30 to 40 years behind Brisbane in terms of culture and development

That ain’t a strawman. He’s literally talking up Brisbane. The cultural comment was quite humorous.

I know you are on Brisbane’s tourism board but Brisbane is vanilla and a very ordinary city by global standards. There are nice places outside of Brisbane but Brisbane itself is boring as well.

That is not really anti-Brisbane per se, Australian cities overall are pretty vanilla and boring.

100 million made the storm a strong nrl side with no juniors

600 million will make png a powerhouse and they have unlimited juniors

it’s hilarious you have so called rugby league expansionists deathriding a bid which promotes international rugby league and will provide basically unlimited juniors even for clubs like the storm who can’t produce their own

What makes you assume that QLD and NSW people would be happy with their tax dollars going to prop up a PNG NRL team?

Given the result of the last NSW state election, the majority of voters weren't even in favour of one off stadium upgrades, let alone a "forever" tax for the sole benefit of rich footballers

I’m not deathriding it. It’ll work for as long as government money is being tipped in but what happens if or when that is no longer the case.

I would have thought that is a pretty valid question
