Australian schoolboys went up there this year to play a game.

They are copying Penrith's model so it can work, It is what we do with the kids in the bush.

Coaches from those areas come here too and are taught how to train them, Warriors have adopted it too.
Yeh imagine the Penrith model with a million kids in your nursery

that’s what this png bid is about

CBF researching how many compared to Brisbane or Sydney clubs but generally players settling for 1-2 year deals aren’t exactly flush with offers.

It isn’t exactly uncommon for young people to move cities with their wives & kids in most cases for less money. Schools can be changed, courses can be transferred, family can visit and be visited. It’s a minor issue at best IMO and like you say applies to pretty much any club outside of Sydney or Brisbane. Any player from an area that doesn’t have an NRL club has to make it work.

Foreign residents pay a higher tax than Australians only on their first 45k (32.5%) after that it’s the same.

There is very few, usually because of side projects or partners in work etc, The top guys will still get Luai type deals and go but you can't pay everyone $1m

Not sure a side will go that well with 5 or so players teams don't want, There is a reason they have no offers though.

The NRL expansion debate is one thing, righting the ship which is PNG is something else. Staying with the Rugby League theme, there are some comments and assumptions made on here that should be clarified.

1. Tribalism in rugby league is not a buzz-word in PNG. It is inherent in their social fabric based on the bloodlines of one of the last living ancient cultures of our planet. Geopolitics is a term promulgated for PNG.
2. Not all people in PNG are rugby league fanatics. It is the national sport and there is a huge following in many social segments and in various regions across the country but certainly not all.
3. Winning is the greatest attraction and losing a huge loss of face. Here is the root of game-related violence but jealousy is not too far behind. The danger for an NRL franchise is not so much to the local team, although they'd better be winning and not be too uppity about it, but to the visitors. Especially if they are winning and particularly if the result is close when tensions escalate or heaven forbid when there is foul play. I don't think I need to mention referee safety here.
5. Junior registrations have been the bane of administrations since the concept was first introduced. Of course, registration is needed, not the least for player/staff insurance as well as uniforms, training materials, ground upkeep, etc, however, it is also provides the seed for the misuse of public funds and political pork barrelling.

And just briefly on the political side of things:

1. The Southern folk of Papua and their countrymen from the Highlands, Islands and Northern regions, previously known as New Guinea, have been one country side 1975.
2. The coming elections may well see, well anything.
3. The country is largely impoverished and survives on subsistence.

And just for the record, I would very much like to see PNG/Pasifika playing in the NRL, and not out of Cairns either, but I am very sceptical as to the ability of anyone to get all the stars to align.

Penrith's model will have diminishing returns on investment in Australia, let alone produce any results in PNG. You can't strip mine the best talent from local competitions in the Bush once those competition effectively cease to exist.

Besides the myth making that Penrith's current success is built on the foundations of their juniors system is laughable nonsense spread by ignorant fools that've never left their suburbs in Sydney. A nice story invented by the trashy rags that pass for journalism these days and spread by Penrith's army of bandwagoners who know less than nothing about RL or how it works on average.

If you don't want to move away from your Mum to play the sport you love for $150k+, then you're probably not going to make it as an NRL player.
Or any form of professional athlete these days.

The days of local heroes who learn the sport locally and plays for the local team until they retire are becoming rarer and rarer. The industry simply cannot function that way anymore.

The APL has also been forced to fund the struggling Perth Glory,
They, and the FFA before them, have been underwriting half the league on and off for ages.

Soccer in Australia is, and always has been, incompetently run, fractured, and felt entitled to success above it's station in this country, which leads it to search for shortcuts that inevitably blow-up in it's face sooner or later. Very little of it's situation, or current predicaments, are relevant to RL in Australia.

Yes because it is a simple as that. As Cowboys fan you should know very few players take those deals up there.

For starters a 12 month contract means you aren't selling your house.

So you have that morgage AND the rent in the new city.

Training in most cases starts at 7am.

Because you and your family moves away to a new city, If your partner gets a job or has an issue. Then you need to pay for care for the children

These are few reasons why a player needs multiple years to accept such offers

I'd rather go to these sort of places too early then miss the boat at all

No it won’t

if you argued Penrith spending more money on juniors would have diminishing returns you would be correct

every club should be investing in juniors

The reality is if you really want a team in png this is it

we will never get this kind of govt support or an nrl boss with the guys to try it

are you afraid they might actually succeed
