I just saw the figures for AwFuL on Fox Sports.

Without the extra funding from AwFuL, the Brisbane Lions would have lost $35.2m over the last decade.

LOL@AwFuL

This article would make a great thread on what the nrl should avoid when it comes to expansion. It’s provides the exact blueprint of what to avoid

Imagine how f**ked the Lions would be if we introduce the Firehawks within the next 5 to 10 years!

Dolphins are based over 40km away from Lions, which means they're not competing against them at all. Lions will still be the largest professional sports club on the southside of Brisbane, commanding strong sponsorship deals with signage that will be plastered all around Woolloongabba and Springwood. You won't see any Dolphins signage in these suburbs.

Add the Firehawks and put a Leagues Club in Springwood and all of a sudden the Lions become invisible, with Firehawks signage and their commercial partners displayed all over Coorparoo, Stones Corner and Springwood. People driving down Logan Road and Rochedale Road will be met with Firehawks signage instead of seeing Lions crap.

I know PR will be against the idea, but if it forces AwFuL to increase the amount they waste on Lions due to less money coming in from sponsors then that's less money they have to spend on development.
I’d love easts to be in but even if it’s the jets it will be massive

that’s not so far from Springfield either given that where the lions see their current future after failing in the cbd

maybe every ten years they can move the lions to a new part of Brisbane to give them another chance

The Titans need to wake up and rebrand as Gold Coast-Logan so they can grow and stave Lions and Suns of money.

A Titans Leagues Club in Springwood would do wonders for rugby league in Logan and the Gold Coast while making the Titans very rich. The last thing the Suns can afford is a cashed up Titans investing money into the Gold Coast and Logan rugby league clubs.

Think they’ve neglected the northern rivers down to Coffs tbh

that area is going to boom with the population growth forecast for Queensland and the new light rail going from coolangatta up past Southport

titans will sort themselves out eventually and get back to 20k crowds

and they don’t focus nearly enough on local juniors the area is a goldmine

The Titans' biggest f**k up is priortising Northern Rivers over Logan. There's 330k people in Logan and it is the most parochial rugby league city in Australia. Former referee David Manson made up a list of rugby league players from Logan who've represented Queensland, Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain over the last 40 years. It's enormous and enough to field a team that would dominate Test football.

That’s pretty good

That whole south western coridoor is going to have a massive population boom in the next ten years

jets need to sort out their bid their finances were weak. Nick Livermore made a lot of promises and didn’t deliver

If they do ever start to branch out more north towards logan, that would be a huge catchment, trouble is they need to start winning on field, the area between logan, Beenleigh, Ormeau, down to Helensvale, is growing in population, so getting the titans involved moreso in those areas, will help them in the future, the Broncos need to focus on the CBD and west of that and the dolphins north

NRL expansion strategy should not be based around a LC in Springwood lol

Why? Im sure if the NRL had an extra $250mill a year in revenue it could afford to fund expansion properly like the AFL does.

Other than the swans none of them are financially viable

they don’t have the largest tv deal anymore either

and they are getting smashed in tv ratings.

so I’m struggling to see where the exposure is benefitting them

And Moses mbeye was earning 1 million pa

the smarter of us know to take out the backended deals and work on the average
lol, can you name me any year in the last 20 that NRL got more TV money than AFL?? Whether you want to avg out over some unfathomable time frame or want to look at an individual year, reality is since at least 2012 we have never had a bigger media revenue. You can argue that's due to conflicted ownership, starting behind the 8 ball, less teams, less time per game, less advert breaks or maybe its because they have major metro reach where 90% of media advertising is spent. what ever the reasons the facts remain. And to top it off we've just locked into a 5 year deal that is already way behind them in the first 2 years!

Nrl is at just over 400 million a year excluding digital

afl is at a little bit over 400 million a year including digital without the backended contract

what backended contract? The deal in 23 and 24 is alleged $473mill. This recoups the losses made in 20&21 for them. If you want to compare apples with apples you'd need to compare the NRL deal for the same period in time when we also lost $50mill plus but arent getting any of it back. Which time period do you want to compare?

You don’t like any comparisons which make afl look odious huh

it’s been shown time and again how much seven and foxtel will pay the afl next year and it’s less than the nrl

people asked you to explain where the extra revenue came from and you couldn’t

if it makes you happier believing afl earns more that’s fine I’m happy thinking they don’t
