18th club, whose next?

If Brisbane get yet another team in front of Perth it will signal the lack of courage of the games administration and contentment to be an east coast game with a muted future. How on earth we will ever dominated the Australian sporting landscape with such a lack of vision defies logic. Put a side in Perth, another in NZ and, if the stars align, one in PNG and we’ve got a comp our competition can only dream of. We can actually do this. They can’t. I never include Adelaide because it’s a basket case for sport. I am happy to be wrong.

Placing a team in Perth won't lead to our game dominating the landscape. AwFuL will respond by introducing a third Perth team that will generate more media coverage, sponsorship and cultural relevance across Western Australia.

You see. Your post perfectly captures the problem. Expand to Brisbane? Say it out loud. AFL house wants us to do just that. You cannot win a war fighting within your boundaries. AFL house loved us leaving Perth. AFL house wants us to be timid. Why? Because it just gives them more opportunity to throw resources at our territory and steal it metre by metre. Force them to look over their shoulder and it changes the game. The growth of the game in Melbourne is now real. The lessons learned can be applied to Perth but it’s a friendlier market so the growth will be quicker.
But you know let’s keep fighting on our own turf. History teaches that never ends well by the way.

AwFuL couldn't give a f**k about the NRL adding an unwanted team in Perth.

The Eagles and Dockers have massive fanbases and generate strong revenue. An NRL won't have any impact on them.

A third AwFuL team in Perth would make life hard for a new NRL team operating in the same market.

The last thing AwFuL wants is a third NRL team in Brisbane. It'll mean less media coverage for the Lions in a parochial rugby league market.

lol did you miss this weeks AFL press release about their Billion$ commitment to grassroots and how a big chunk of its going to nsw and qlnd? You're kidding yourself if you think a 3rd Brisbane club has any impact, just like 9 Sydney clubs has zero impact on Swans.

I do agree that is not why the NRL should be in Perth, if anything in the code wars what it will do is hammer another nail into Unions coffin. Twiggys $'s can only do so much. An NRL club in Perth will see kids flock to RL instead of Union.

You're kidding yourself if you think a third NRL club in Brisbane won't hurt the Lions. The club already has the largest debt in AwFuL. Dolphins are already bigger than the Lions. Adding a third team will make it very hard for the Lions to generate revenue from sponsorship, corporate hospitality, ticketing and membership because there won't be much media coverage for them.

Yeah because 9 Sydney teams has resulting in the Swans getting no media coverage right?

I never said Melbourne and Perth will produce players.

Are you arguing for cities like Melbourne and Perth to not have teams because they won't produce players?

If so then I agree with you.

I'm sick of parasites from Canberra and Perth believing Brisbane should be nothing more than a breeding ground to supply unwanted teams in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth with players they don't deserve. I'd rather see the game die than follow the "affirmative action" policies that are pushed by "expansionist" nutcases with a selfish agenda. If the other nutcases from Canberra believe Perth is so important then send the Raiders to the world's most irrelevant city.

Why do you think Brisbane RL fans should be treated like second class citizens?

I'm not convinced Perth will get a team.

Too risky for a risk adverse organisation like the NRL. Odds are V'landys will pander to the broadcasters. Ch9 have already indicated they want another team in Brisbane.
So if you were running the NRL, would you just have teams in NSW & QLD?

Does GROTD think that Lions fans are just pretending, waiting for a third NRL teams so the can switch to RL? Two isn’t enough to sway them, but a third would?

Maybe he thinks they are like him, and will only support a team that's located in their suburb. It doesn't make much sense since the Lions likely aren't in their suburb, but not much of Donkey's logic does make sense.

15 years of hearing what the NRL is 'going to do' when it comes to expansion tests anyones faith!

Ive seen nothing so far that I haven't seen in other administrations.
Really?the dolphins came in within 2 years of announcement...
You really cannot accept that there is someone who actually gives a shit about actual expansion at HQ now, its been a very long time since this has been looked at and now we are here, and you are all negative nancy and narky about the whole thing..
Enjoy it, before the regime changes for the worse

Qld afl clubs sure do well financially??

“contrast that year Gold Coast was given $25.4 million from the AFL but self-generated just $12.8 million.”

I never said that.

Having a third NRL team in Brisbane will starve the Lions of sponsorship and corporate support.

The media coverage the Lions were provided when they shared Brisbane with one NRL team wasn't enough to stop them from piling up the largest debt in AwFuL.

Now they're competing with two NRL teams for media coverage. Adding a third will be disastrous.

Less media coverage will lead to less interest from casual fans. Fewer people will attend games.

Compared this to a genuine afl club

“In 2021, West Coast reported the least funding from the AFL distribution at $11.8 million, but generated $61.7 million in revenue”

Yeh a Perth nrl team will make a huge dent in that lmao

Melbourne would be left to fend for themselves under my watch. No more bail outs. No more bludging off Queensland for survival.

Deep down you know that Melbourne contributes nothing to the game and wouldn't exist if they weren't given bail outs from News Ltd for 15 years and another 5 years under he ARLC between 2013 and 2018. The club doesn't develop local juniors and has caused irreparable damage to the game's reputation through its systemic rorting of the salary cap and introduction of unsportsmanlike tactics that have forced players into retirement.

TV ratings for the Storm in Melbourne are atrocious.

Why do you believe Melbourne is entitled to have a team it cannot support?

I doubt he'd even have the teams in NSW or North QLD. He just wants the BRL to take over.
I'm a Cowboys fan you dumbarse.

I've challenged you to find a post to back up your bullshit claim about a team in "my suburb".

You've failed to find a post to back up your claim.
