1st Test - Australia v New Zealand Brisbane Dec 1 - Dec 5 2011

Batting in test cricket is application and concentration. Relatively risk free partnership here just safely putting the crap balls in to the gaps and rotating the strike where possible.

If NZ hadn't thrown 4 wickets away they'd be well in with a shout for a good first innings total.

Only been following commentary until now but going by what they were saying Starc was swinging/seaming it so that is encouraging. Will have to catch highlights of it to see if it looked dangerous.

Exactly TT. The only one who was shown up technically was Williamson where he decided to plant his front foot down the wicket before realising he needed to go back to originally. The other dismissals were typical of how our basmen like to throw their wickets away after getting set.

It's New Zealand, they always drop 5 wickets before they start batting.

Williamson will be fine. He'll come back strongly.

First time I've seen Starc and he looks good. He's still to find the right areas but so far I'm impressed.

Not a great advertisment for test cricket. Going off for light when it's really not that bad.

No he's obvisouly terrible because of this one innings African Monkey and none of the 'hype' is deserved....

Think he was shown up experience wise, more than technically... remember how young he was, I thought that was good captaincy from Clarke really... Williamson's technique will be fine

No doubt he'll come back strongly from this JJ. He just needs to play off the back foot more to Lyon due to the extra bounce over there as opposed to what he is used to playing in NZ which is front foot first to the spinner.

Funny effort from Clarke though... some very good stuff (mainly his use of Lyon before lunch, and the fields) - then some woeful stuff - Hussey and some defensive fields... we're still in a hole, not sure what that was about...

The quicks look serviceable, but without us gifting them wickets, not sure things would be so rosey... Lyon has quite a bit to like about him, at least on what we saw today... but not consistent enough yet, the work he puts on the ball is good though...

Lyon is a work in progress but offers much more than Haurie.
