Yeah thats a good tail. Stacks up well against most.

Runs scored for the last 4 wickets by Southee/Sodhi/Wagner/Boult

NZ v Wi- Hamilton- 1st Innings- 80 runs
NZ v WI- Hamilton- 1st Innings- 145 runs
NZ v WI- Dunedin- 1st Innings- 140 runs (3 wickets fell)

I eat my words.

In all seriousness, why is there even debate about Smith and Williamson? Both are doing the job for their respective countries, I would have thought. Both I would have thought have started to establish themselves as test bats. Williamson is the less aggressive, he's also #3 in the order whereas Smith is generally #5/6, completely different roles. If I was Australian, I'd be comfortable with Smith in my batting line up. As a Kiwi, I'm more than comfortable with Williamson in my test batting line up. Not sure much more needs to be said, really.

At the moment, I'd have more confidence in Sodhi having to bat for an hour and a half in a partnership with another batsman to win a test, then for him to be able to get any wickets without a string of catches at cow corner from messrs 9,10,11, after the top order had comfortable pummeled him all over the park. He's a rough diamond, who is currently however an inconsistent pie thrower.

Not sure if Anderson is the man for this situation. I would have been happier to see Waitling walk out.

A very well compiled, responsible 42* at stumps. Happy to be wrong.

Great day for the Kiwis, even if you are playing only a tier two side.

lol, makes a joke out of this stupid 2 tier set up

India wont make bugger all money out of the NZ trip with the exception of TV rights back in India so it may be a while before they tour again

its all about the money for these guys

I hear ya.

We seem to be so excited about having a leggie/bloke who can turn the ball that we really don't mind if he can take wickets in doing so

Very grey in Auckland again this morning, no rain and not as dark as yesterday...

Fine performance by Williamson and McCullum yesterday...

Not sure why anyone still questions Williamson - he is a terrific talent, who if we were given the tests that the 'tier 1' nations were would have developed/developed much more quickly. Ideally in a lineup I'd still have him at 5, but he's got a terrific technique, and will I think become a world class top order bat for many years.

McCullum's just gone past Astle as a test run scorer - again, I am one that's been critical of him - but essentially we're talking about a keeper/batsman who can no longer keep - which is a shame, because he was terrific at that.

Soddhi... I don't get it, he's not a test bowler's left testicle YET... might be at some stage, but I worry for him against this lot - Williamson might be bowling a bit.

WOuldn't compare Anderson to Kallis in any way shape or form.... but the latest in a long line of world-class (potentially in his case) all-rounders for us - Reid, Taylor, Hadlee, Cairns, Oram.. by god he can hit the ball cleanly and a long way...

It's just exciting at the moment, test openers aside, we have a group that has excellent talent, and at home I back us against anyone, except probably the Jaapies who's attack is perfect for here

Just saw Anderson's wicket. Bloody hell. There's a reason why lbw's are hard to pick up coming around the wicket.

Watling gone. Pretty big wicket. Now we'll see if the tail can hang around with McCullum for him to get a double.

Well, JJ, had only seem highlights of the lad, smashing them everywhere. Was limited over stuff.

Then I watched a well compiled 77, no slogging, quality batting, lots of balls along the grass. Solid in defence.

In fact this team has very bright future, some good young quicks, middle order solid, potential good openers. Spinner be good.
