On the back of good crowds today, should we have a full kids round, where every venue is free to under 16's. Could attract a naming rights sponsor for the round, ie Toys r Us etc, With a share of profits going to junior footy.

Thoughts Ideas??

imo better idea is cheaper kids prices all round. kids general admission prices should be $5. THE single biggest complaint i've heard, more than parking, sh*t expensive food, etc, is it costs far too much to take the family to the footy.

Absolutely, no arguments there. The AFL would love to have sides in mentioned areas such as NZ, trial games have been played there before with some level of success.

The point of my post though, was to talk about crowds, and not expansion. For RL to remain a sport in the next 20 years, it has too be pulling higher crowds then 16k average. Fair enough, it my never reach the AFL's standards, but in this case, if you use AFL as the benchmark, it is something to aim for. If we can get 30k averages in 20 years time, the game will be in a good place, with high amounts of season ticketholders and gate reciepts bringing in handy streams of revenue week after week. Hopefully the clubs in non-RL heartland can get some decent crowds as well, eg: Swans and Lions getting big crowds in non-AFL heartland (btw, not asking for direct Broncos comparisons here;-)).

Anyway, it's just something to aim for. 99% of people may hate AFL on here, but it doesn't mean we can't learn some lessons from their model.

Apart from DailyM who is a harmless fantasist most on here agree with you. I certainly do.

Soccer is the world's No.1 sport but they were clever enough to learn from Notth America when coming up with the Euro Champions League which is in effect a delayed post season for top 4 finishing clubs in italy, Spain and England.

we need the same vision and AFL is a superb example of what is possible in Australia.

Realistically an aim of an average of 20,000 across the 9 Sydney clubs adn 25,000 in the one club towns with an overall average over 22,000 ought to be achievable in the next decade if we cop on to ourselves.....mind you Origin will have to be reduced to one game per annum and be taken away form mid season since it is seriously damaging attendances and only exists to try to show that we can equal Carlton V Collingwood - which we are miles away from.

Kids in free all the time. Or $3 like the AFL.

By the way what a great sight that was yesterday at SFS.

What's beyond a joke? Two 22k+ crowds... and Auckland getting a crowd twice what it should have given the conditions. Given good weather I can see their next home game being a ripsnorter of a crowd - 13-14k maybe
7k at Parra
8k at Canberra
8k at Auckland

That's what is a joke.

P.S. I don't give a sh*t about what the conditions were like.

They should be free at the larger stadiums. What's the point in having 60,000 empty seats, I'm sure the kiddies would have eaten through 5 bucks each and it promotes the game to families and kids.

auckland looked shocking weather.

canberra was fine, but pretty cold. i enjoyed the game regardless...also..it was the titans reserve grade playing them.

the carney incident could have been a crowd factor as well.

good stuff for newcastle though. big crowd there.

parra was a joke.

I'll grant you that 7k @ Parra is a joke. Those defending Parra's crowd situation earlier in the thread certainly don't seem to be as steadfast now. And while based on form I can't particularly blame them, something's ordinary out west.

Canberra and Auckland are always going to struggle for numbers in the depths of winter, that's a fact. Especially on cold and wet afternoons/nights. I feel truly sorry for you if you can't appreciate those simple facts that keep people from going. The games are easily accessible on Pay TV - why would they go?

The last time I checked, Rugby League is a winter sport.

People should get used to winter conditions ffs.

You're confusing ordinary winter with conditions that were disastrous, even for winter. The storm that was in Auckland on Sunday killed five people, tore down trees, power lines, huge swells at sea, dashed boats on rocks. People were warned not to leave home.

If you had a brain cell in your head, you'd realised that 8,700 in those conditions is probably the crowd of the round.

From what I heard I was thinking 4-5 tops... a great result IMO and echoes the great contest that NZ v Melb always provides.
