Some absolute crud being dished up by both sides of that argument, Matty's post being the cherry on top. Give it a rest lads.

too bad dogs and dragons lost last week...game really had potential for 25k + but i think it will end up somewhere between 15-18k now

15-18K would be a sound result under the circumstances I feel. Its just one of those unpredictable games, and I really wouldn't be surprised if it managed 12K or 20K either. It is in the dud timeslot however, so hopefully that won't have too much of an effect. But yeah, if it reaches the top end of the range you suggested that's be a good result I reckon.

Then in Round 7 we have the ANZAC Day double. Roosters v Dragons, should get 20K+, and then Broncos v Rabbitohs in Brisbane, this match has the potential for 30-40K.

This is a pretty good idea to play the Bunnies on ANZAC Day.

Although the crowds for the Bunnies games have been on the increase, they still overall remain the lowest drawing team in Brisbane.

Like playing the Panthers in Round 1 and getting over 30K, the same may (hopefully) happen with the Bunnies. A game that would normally draw 22-24K could get 5-6K more punters thrown on top.

NRL has no Brains when it comes to fixtures however.

They're still playing two Good Friday Matches in Sydney, when even Blind Freddy could realise that the Chooks and Drongos should be playing in Brisbane if they insist with the Homebush Fixture.

Yeah i do find it strange aswell they have have two good friday matches in Sydney when they could pull a bigger number in Sydney if they only had one and in Brisbane could get a bigger crowd than a normal Friday night game.

Im a fan of rugby league but ill be f**ked if im going to listen to QLD fagets go on about how their crowds are excellent with only 3 teams up there. .

...let the Ipswich Jets in then...

we want a fourth team, bring it on!

ps. I reckon with the Sydney clubs focusing on memberships attendances are gonna rise in the next 4-5 years

The Roosters v Broncos match has been played at the SFS on Good Friday for almost 15 years now, infact both teams request it, they are trying to develop it as a showpiece game in itself like how AFL has guaranteed games on set public holidays.

Allowing the Rabbitohs v Bulldogs was an interesting move, understandably Good Friday is the Easter Shows largest day, meaning the crowds that use to turn up to the Roosters game can now be drawn by Souths, but its going to take a while for both games to reach their potential.

Realistically though if you look at it, there are very few other times you can name when Sydney is almost guaranteed to get 40K+ out to League on the same day outside of Good Friday, regardless of the weather.

I believe that Souths and the 'Dogs should rotate the gate year to year seeing as they both reside at the ground :x

Its possibly something the Bulldogs should push for, but at least one strength the Dogs have over Souths and infact over most Sydney clubs now, is that they have been at ANZ long enough and have built up a core mobile fan base that they can draw crowds easily enough whether it counts as a home or away game.

In fact if you look at their last 10 games at ANZ Stadium:

2007:
V Roosters (H) - 20722
V Penrith (H) - 12465
V Eels (H) - 27201
V Canberra (H) - 12127
V Melbourne (H) - 21756
V Eels (A) - 50621

2008:
V Eels (A) - 25065
V Rabbitohs (A) - 21839
V Wests Tigers (H) - 21546
V Roosters (H) - 36526

So a total of 249,868 or an average of 24,989. Now whilst some of those games a significant number of away fans turned up, you can't argue that on average games involving the Bulldogs draw more, especially at ANZ Stadium, than any other team in Sydney.

They have done very well for themselves, and I hope for them they break the 20K average this year.

The support is there for us, we seem to have a core base of around12-15k that will turn up week in, week out no matter what, the rest will come when we win etc. We need to be in good form this year if we wanna crack the 20k which i really hope we do but some timeslots (like sat 5:30) for dogs/dragons, even though we are both struggling is a big game for both fans and should of gotten better.

But well what happens anyways and the Bulldogs are trying to encourage people out to the game.

The Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs are winding back the clock for this weekend’s NRL heritage round match against the Dragons at ANZ Stadium, with tickets prices not witnessed for many years.

The Bulldogs are offering a pre-purchased family ticket for just $20 which equates to as low as $5 per person. Supporters of both the Bulldogs and the Dragons are advised to move quickly as there is a limit of only 500 hundred packages available.

Bulldogs Chief Executive Mr Todd Greenberg said this is reward for the great support the Bulldogs have received from their loyal fans and an encouragement for the Dragons fans to join in the celebrations.

“The Bulldogs supporters have been out in force this year and the players really appreciate their support. This was clearly evident in our last game at ANZ Stadium, when a crowd of 36,526 smashed the previous crowd record for a NRL premiership match in Sydney and set a new Bulldogs home game record, “Mr Greenberg said.

15 years? Nowhere near

Dogs v Bunnies has already become a much larger showcase for the game despite the fact it is only two years old. The Broncos, on a Good Friday in Brisbane with no competition from other events, has the potential to draw a huge crowd. It makes sense to have the matches in different cities on the night so as not to cannibalize one another.

Thanks for the tip about the special family tickets, however I just tried to buy some but they are sold out.

Why does it always look like there are empty seats at Robina,, ??,I know the seats are blue as the jersey is, but you can tell the difference between a seat and a person....

Havn't seen the replay, but the western stand always seems to have a few empty seats because that is the most expensive side. I'm in the Eastern stand and it I'm pretty sure it's always full. It's certainly the loudest.

The Titans game was a technical sell out, 27,319 of a possible 27,554 seats were sold for the match.

I guess it doesn't help that all the clubs merchandise is the exact same blue as the seat, plus there seems to be a significant group of Titans fans who enjoy painting themselves blue.

Regardless anyway, whether they were seats or people, the Titans collected a fortune from tonights game and ensures the first night of the round stays above the 20K average mark.

Parramatta, whilst its understandable people were turned off by the rain, the club has again suffered due to the fact they do so little to promote pre-sales. Most of the Titan's game was sold out late last week, and even their next match against the Warriors is at around 60% sold, this compared to the Eels which had only pre-sold around 20% of their ground.

If people have already paid for their tickets they are far more likely to turn up even in bad weather than if they are 'deciding on the day'.

Tomorrow's games will be interesting, Bulldogs v Dragons has already shifted around 16,000 tickets (including members), meaning as long as the weather isn't too bad a plus 20K crowd isn't impossible, Cowboys are on track for a 20K+ crowd, whilst Shark Park is a bit of an unknown... first game of the season at the new venue, hopefully it goes close to capacity.
