They're building a bloody 'metro' line out to the Hills District aren't they? I'd assume that with the Northern Beaches poor PT that there'd be a line planned to go up there sometime down the track.

if they are talking about a tunnel from manly to the city, forget about.

and to link manly with the rail network will cost a fortune.

Origin must NOT be on a standalone weekend.

Split rounds MUST return

Origin MUST stay on Wednesday night

You and I don't agree often but the NRL & ARL must take notice of these words. It's THE solution to the current issue... stand alone weekends is dumb, and the current situation isn't working.

The biggest problem is the extremely poor management of the Spit Bridge as it stands.

It's not like we came up with the idea. http://tollroadsnews.info/artman/publish/article_63.shtml

Something has to give one day as it's a 3rd world route atm.

they been talking about linking the M4 and city west link up for ages and it aint happening yet.

and thats loads more urgent than a faster road link from the peninsula to the CBD.

looks like milatary rd and the spit bridge will be the main link for quite a long time

Maybe the Northern Beaches folk don't want easy access to the other side.

Here's the latest update from my crowd charts. Should put this weeks performance into perspective.

(Sorry if they're too small. I'm fairly net illiterate)

Round-by-round-comparison.gif

Round by round we did okay for this time of year, missing out on the terrible lows of 2006/7 in the horror rounds of 13 and 14. It wasn't brilliant but at least it held its own in the worst part of the year.

Running-average.gif

The running average subsequently shows that we've fallen off the pace of 2005 but not as bad as the last two years. With a decent result this week we'll have blown past the worst 2 rounds of the season with a much healthier average than the last 2 years and a chance to give the quite phenomenal 2005 a decent scare. Beating it is another matter but the next graph shows why that might not matter....

SeasonTotal.gif

This graph is the total number of punters through the gates, round by round. The interesting thing this highlights is that although 2005 was the best season average it was last years figures that broke the total attendance record. Not only that but the total has steadily been increasing year on year for the last 5 years (about 12.7% in total to be exact). With a crowd average higher than last years we could end up smashing the total attendance record (given a good finish to the season).

Also, we've fallen behind last year in the total attendance figures but that's only because of the extra bye (technically we should be further behind but round 7 was massive). With the extra round at the end of the season we should finish strongly.

And I'd also like to thank Timmah for his 'Story so far' posts. :p

impressed by dingbat

good to see crowds rising around 10% per year overall.

One would think with better stadia, increases would be more, quicker.

but this alone should dispel the nrl's constant doom and gloom outlook. if only it went to press

If only it went to press. Someone should tell 60 minutes.
In fact I did tell them that we were heading for record crowds this year, I hope I am proved right then I will send them a reminder.

Sorry, I didn't say that right. It's 12.84% in total over the whole 5 years, not each year.

And yeah, the "Titans effect" was the biggest difference in the 2007 jump. In fact, it may have been the only difference.

thanks dingbat for the correction.

i guess this just goes to show hoe expansion teams at the moment, have far more value to rugby league than many existing teams, that they could be the only positive effect on supporter activeness in an entire year!!!!

excellent observation brownie.

and we can expect perhaps another largish crowd or two, 40k+/high 30's toward the end of the year perhaps.

dogs vs roosters rematch wont have sonny v willie pt. 2 - willie will be missing since he'll probably be selected for origin. unless of course he misses out...i'd love to see that happen so we can get our hands on him again and hopefully do better than last time.
