Even if you forget the weather that is a great crowd.

The GC continue to post disgraceful numbers. We should be trying to build a big fan base to shut out the AFL. Instead prohibitively high prices are holding fans out.

When the AFL come in they will make sure prices are cheap (especiaally for kids) to build a fan base. Than when they have one they can raise their prices a bit. So damn frsutrating.

AFL has $3 kids tickets. The Titans better make some changes before next season. I think they missed a golden opportunity to gain a lot of rusted on fans with cheap kids/family tickets over the past 3 years.

prices at the MCG (Locky rules this is for you) and all other AFL venues

adult $20.00, 15 and under $2.50, 5 and under $0 if you walk up.

if you book, $22.50, $3.80 and $1.30 iirc.

these are the prices that will be charged by the GC AFL side.


the AFL did raise the U16 price this yr (greedy bastards) from $2.20 to $2.50. that is the first rise since 2002. AFL ticket prices will remain low.

Even at a $100, an NFL season ticket would cost $800. And tickets are not all 100+, you can find way cheaper ones. Contrary to popular belief, NFL stadiums do not all play to capacity, even with a measly 8 games at home.

8-10 games each year? Now, I'm not bagging the NFL, and it does many things quite well. But its not all peachy.

% of capacity teams played at in the last season (remember, all they have to do is fill out a stadium 8 times):

Miami - 89% ....Population: 5.4 million
Kansas City - 88% ....Pop: 2.05 million
St Louis - 84% Pop.... 2.8 million
Detroit - 76% ....Pop: 4.2 million
Jacksonville - 73%....Pop: 1.3 million
Oakland - 70% ....Pop: 7.4 million (Bay Area)

So thats a total of 48 games that are not even at 90% capacity. 13 teams play at over 99%, the other 17 dont. Not to mention, alot of those teams have entire states to draw people from.

I dont care if you're the worst team in history, if you cant sell out 8 games for the national sport in any given city that has 2 million + residents (if not far more), you've got some more work to do. Especially when you are forced to sell out games so they can be shown live on TV.

Also, the NFL is a clear indicator that reducing teams is Sydney is not the way to go. It doesnt matter if Sydney had 1 team with 5 mil to draw from, still doesn't mean it would sell out ANZ on a weekly basis. Keep all Syd teams.

I haven't really been able to follow the crowd stats that closely this year but does someone have a full list of the season to date? Would like to compare our relative position compared to last year etc.

So encouragingly we are for the first time since 2005, still above 16K after 16 rounds....

In 2005, we fell below 16K only in Rounds 18 and 19.... if some results and weather can go our way, we might be able to stay above 16K which puts us in a good position for the run home at the end of the year....

I've always been surprised that the Tigers are so poorly supported in QLD given that our home crowd averages are generally the highest in Sydney (4 of the last 5 years).

Thanks Yak. Looking good. If we make it through the next 3 rounds with good averages then we'll be over the slowest part of the season with a record average. From there a good finals build up will give us a brand new shiny record. Very nice.

DETROIT, a city of 4.2 million = 76% OF 80,000 = 60,800. Not a bad average considering the snow and ice that city gets in winter. Compare that to the 15,000- crowds in Sydney, population 4.5 million.

Detroit has an indoor stadium............... though I sort of get what you mean with the snow and ice. Could have implications in getting to the game, but as far as winter conditions effecting the crowd numbers, having an indoor stadium alleviates the climate dramas whilst at the stadium.
