Trailblazing club have opened up a new front in the struggle for memberships, writes Glenn Jackson.
Paul Osborne is staring out of a 24th floor hotel room overlooking Mumbai Harbour when an eagle flies past his window. This is not where he expected Parramatta's membership drive to reach. ''This is surreal,'' Osborne concedes.
He is in India spruiking membership of his club. As you do. You read right - he has spent the past few days in Hyderabad and Mumbai attempting to convince a Bollywood star to spruik rugby league to potential Parramatta fans. Which means that after signing Jarryd Hayne, Osborne's next signature has been Nandamuri Balakrishna, the new face of rugby league in the west. Way west. In India.
The plan has worked. In the next few months, Balakrishna will travel to Sydney to sell the sport of rugby league to thousands of people of Indian heritage living in the Parramatta district. The idea occurred to him after witnessing thousands converge on Parramatta Park for a concert last month. Data showed many of them lived around Harris Park, Guildford and Parramatta, which makes them all potential members.
Rabbitohs, Dragons and Dogs should be commended!!
awesome effort already having a strong base and improving on it rapidly
true supporters.
If either of them won the premiership in the next cpl of years you would have to expect that year would jump by a further 20 or 30%
That is hopeless for the Titans and Cows!!
The Titans and the Cowboys have the most expensive memberships in the league.
They both need to rethink their numbers but will probably get more numbers up just before their 1st home games.
But why are they the most expensive. they certainly don't have the crowds or results to justify it. When you have a packed out ground every week, then maybe you can start upping the price.
To go one step further, Melbourne are playing at Etihad for their first three home games, so they won't be at MRS until Round 9.And don't forget that the Storm play their first home game in round 4, so they have 3 extra weeks ahead of some teams to sell more season tickets... which is good for them considering their very late start.
Actually some teams have until round 2 and Manly's first home game is in round 3. The breakdown of teams for which round they play their first home game (in order of above membership list) is:
Broncos - round 1
Rabbitohs - round 1
Dragons - round 2
Cowboys - round 2
Bulldogs - round 1
Eels - round 1
Knights - round 2
Wests Tigers - round 1
Titans - round 1
Storm - round 4
Warriors - round 2
Raiders - round 2
Panthers - round 1
Roosters - round 2
Sea Eagles - round 3
Sharks - round 1
So the draw seems to be kind to us in that most teams that haven't reached their 2009 totals yet have an extra week to sell more tickets - Cowboys, Warriors, Raiders, Roosters. Sea Eagles have an extra 2 weeks and Storm have an extra 3 weeks. Of the teams that haven't reached their 2009 totals yet, only the Titans and Panthers play at home in round 1.
Adding up the 2009 & 2010 totals so far, we are exactly 3,500 season tickets short of the 2009 total which we should beat easily in the next week (2009 = 92,325 av: 5,770 per club vs 2010 so far = 88,825 av: 5,551 per club), and we should reach 100,000 season tickets total.
Doust is on his way to England Fein.
The Scousers are coming to Kogarah!!

The Eagles are similar, while they wait for Brookie renovations to complete, they'll play Round 3 home game vs Newie @ Gosford. Their first game at Brookvale is Round 5 v Cronulla.
The away game discount is a crock of sh*t...most ticket sales people don't even seem to know it exists. And some stadiums don't do it. And the ones that do you save about $2 anyway.
