Melbourne Storm- 7120 members so far.

Will be interested to see if they can hit 10000. They got a few weeks before there first game.

if 7120 is correct then that puts the comp over 100K ticketed members. From most recent numbers it would be 100,338 total. it would also make them the 11th club to post an increase on 09. Good job by all!

This really is excellent news from the NRL. Well doe and a massive congrats to all clubs who have increased memberships. Lets hope they(NRL) don't "forget" about the membership drive. needs to be a continual programme 12 months of the year.

He said its not enough to just say you follow a team, you should actually be a member. Also mentioned some figures from Todd Greenburg that in the 80s the AFL had only 80 000 members in total and they have 500000+ which contributes 100 million to their game, compared to 20 million currently for the NRL - so its going to be a long term process.

some great stuff

he was saying how AFL Clubs make at least $5million from membership and NRL clubs are lucky to make $1million.

During these tough times, pokies etc - $5million would do so much for so many clubs

demetriou made 1.8 million last year.

afl revenue was something like 300 million, and they made over 120m in profit. their memberships were record levels.

at one stage in the 80s they were as pathetic as we are now. bring on the commission

Rabbitohs break 18,000 members barrier

NRL Wed, 24 Mar 2010 09:47:00

An exciting start to the 2010 Telstra Premiership season has ensured all clubs have continued to enjoy strong membership growth as the NRL continues to break new ground as a sport in membership.

At the top of the ladder, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have for the first time broken the 18,000 membership barrier, including over 11,300 ticketed members, whilst the Broncos and Dragons have continued to move towards the 14,000 member mark.

The Eels and Bulldogs, the largest improvers since 2009, each with 90% and 70% growth respectively have continued to enjoy late fan sign ups, whilst the Wests Tigers have continued to go from strength to strength after the sign of Tuqiri and long term re-signing of Marshall.

Further down the ladder, the Sharks and Panthers have both grown their membership bases by around a third.

The Storm and Roosters are both well on track to equal their 2009 figures with two opening wins helping spur membership numbers, whilst the Cowboys only need another 105 members to equal their 2009 figure.

Overall, membership numbers for the NRL are up over 15% from 2009.

Remember it is never too late to become an NRL Club member. Most clubs offer non-ticketed, three or six game memberships as well! Click here to find out more

Please Note: Membership numbers are correct as of Monday, March 22 2010.

Warriors and Titans are both concerns. Roosters and Storm look like they should equal their 09 numbers, and Cowboys are so close, surely they'll get that extra 100 members.

Clearly the costs of being a Titans member just is way too much for the average league fan on the coast.

The Titans are pathetic and it isn't for want of trying. I see their membership ads on TV, in newspapers etc.

I read the new GC AFL team have hit 4,000 and aim for 10,000 by July. And they are not even in the main comp!

Gold Coast league fans need to pull their fingers out or else they won't have a team in the future. 16,000 for their first home game is also a worry.

What the hell has happened to them? Are they over charging? Anyone know or have a theory?

It doesn't appear that you haven't seen what they charge. Only the staunchest of the staunch (and richest of the rich) would pay what they are asking. It is borderline criminal and they only have themselves to blame.
