For me, the backline is set in stone:

1.Stewart
2.Uate
3.Lawrence
4.Jennings
5.Hayne

we got some decent back ups in Dugan, Gordon (wish hoppa was still playing) incase of injury. Quick fact (for people wanting to dump Hayne) he has played more origin games (13) than the rest of the backline i have named (12), he is also NSW most experience player!

so who our of Lawrence and Jennings misses out?

TBH mate it is a tough call but I think Lawrence would get the nod given he is a current Kangaroo and for mine is the better all round centre.

Its good to have options and not have to rely on guys like Turner to fill the gaps

Couldn't disagree there, Lawrence would be my pick. However, I wouldn't be disappointed with the 5 Pazza has named.

Also, good to see Douglas finally being looked at. Seeing our front row consistently underperform over the last few years, I could never understand why he wasn't given a go.
This, Douglas is so under rated. His stats are probably the best week in week out for any prop in NSW although he is never mentioned. I'd slot him in my team for Galloway. He makes more metres, more tackles, bigger minutes.

Hayne is a matchwinner and over the period of Qld's dominance he has consistently been the one back who could make the Qld side based on his performances in any given series. To not find a spot for him somewhere would be an error.

Gordon should be the one to miss out without a doubt. Spent the majority of last year injured and while he will be a solid backup player he should not be in contention for a starting spot unless his form is amazingly strong throughout the first rounds.

100% agree with gUt.

Luke Douglas is a fantastic player, he'd look great in the side.

He probably will miss out, but from how you wrote that you made it sound like he has no chance of cracking the five (correct me if wrong).

He was probably the form back with Thurston before his injury. He just wasn't talk about in the media is why people don't recognize how good he really is. He isn't a fancy player, but he is tough and plays / reads the game well.

And he provides goal kicking. I have always been a fan of wingers or centres being goal kickers. They have less to worry about during a match and you want your experienced players back get the team set for the kick-off.

If Soward doesn't get selected or Gordon then this becomes a bit of an important issue, especially if it comes down to a last try and a pending conversion.

I think Gordan and Jennings are actually competing for the remaining backline spot. Going off form (which can obviously change drastically in 2012) and Rickys previous comments the team will be:

1. Dugan/Stewart
2. Uate
3. Hayne/Jennings
4. Lawrence
5. Hayne/Gordan

I can't imagine Stuart leaving hayne out again and he said last year Lawrence was going to be left center before he got injured. The fact he wasn't in the blues in waiting camp but guys like Gordan, Merrin and campese were says to me he only needs to be fit to get picked.

With boyd leaving the dragons their left side won't be anywhere near as strong so hopefully Morris won't score as many tried and fool people into thinking he is any good.

Depending on where Stuart plays hayne will probably decide who gets the spot out of Jennings/gordan

If he picks Morris, we should just concede and hand the shield over. We need more in a winger then he can offer, like making a F**ken decision and grabing the ball when it's loose near our try line.

Going back to Morris would be f**king Terrible.
I agree with your statement about the placement of Hayne will determine Gordon and Jennings selection in the team, and so it should.
We have seven backs who can play 1-5 and I would have faith in them all. Dugan, Stewart, Hayne, Lawrence, Jennings, Uate, Gordon

Spot on mate. Id be happy with any combo of those players lining up for the blues backline

I'm shaking at my head at people explaination of Pearces selection. " There's no one else... " And people bag the selectors....

#7 is just that - a number. The only difference between halfback & 5/8th nowadays is one feeds the scrum.

Tell me; what is the Pearce can do that no other NSW halves can do?
