Well done to souths, I've been to see around ten clubs in last couple of years and souths are the only ones who have followed up, presumably using my ticket online booking info, with a membership pack. Having got it I am going to sign my godson up as a jnr non ticketed as the jnr merch pack is good and he cheered for souths at nib last year.

The membership application pack is very well put together with lots of reasonably priced options. You can see why they are leaders in this area.

I was thinking about jerseys and memberships.

Most jerseys retail for $160, but clubs still make a profit at $100

Most non ticketed memberships are around $60.

Why don't you sell jerseys to members for $100, and everyone that walks into your club shop or orders online has the option of paying $160 for a jersey or $160 for a jersey and non ticketed membership?

This... is a brilliant idea.

Apparently AFL clubs like Collingwood do stuff like buy a polo for $70, get a "free" ticket and a membership pack.

The membership packs cost next to nothing, nor would tickets if your playing at a 90k stadium and then they get all their info details and next year try to convert them to a higher membership.

11 clubs with increases on last year's progressive total... 5 with declines. Most concerning of those - Wests Tigers.

(and yes, I fully acknowledge most clubs have published new numbers since then).

Last year there was some controversy in Melbourne because a team (you know which one) advertised a 3 game pack with free jersey for $20 when it was really $120 (which is still a very good deal). I think they got fined by the ACCC.

I think those sort of things are a great idea. (much like the guy above's suggestion).

I agree it is a great idea, but the sad reality is that the minute you did something like that, you'd have a million complaints from " loyal" members about how they are getting shafted in favour of the new fair weathered fans.

Members get a discount already on stuff purchased from the club, so you have to factor that in.

You just have a option that if you spend $150 at the club shop, you can also redeem a free one game membership to the club. Thus the year after clubs can follow up on new leads.

Anything to increase membership/crowds should be considered. Plus rewarding supporters who are supporting the club by buying directly from them.

Manly passed 8000 today according to a club article. Club record for this time of year.

I don't know, with the amount of jerseys they churn through, why clubs don't get renewing members to stump up an extra $100 for the next/current season jersey. Surely, the sponsors and the club would rather their fans wearing the current strip with the current sponsor?

And considering some/most clubs are doing the rolling payment now, an extra $10 a month for 10 months guarantees you the new jersey.

Just an idea.

I feel the memberships are finally starting to reach a "tipping" point

This happens when the fans start thinking " oh shit all my mates are members" I must be missing out on something

Souths have already tipped, few others going close
Correct.
Increasing memberships is all about 'Tipping Points'.
Two other 'Tipping Points' that have been the main driver behind the growth of AFL memberships is
1 - when there are ore members that the stadium capacity, you have to get a membership, or join a waiting list. E.g. In Perth the Eagles have 42K seated members (which fills the ground), with 10K paying to be on a waiting list. As a result, they can basically charge whatever they like.
2 - when the demand for Grand Final tickets is so great that only members of competing clubs can get a ticket. This is why top AFL clubs Hawthorn & Collingwood have 60K+ members. NRL is nearly there.

Memberships will increase dramatically once each club reaches any of these tipping points.

(unfortunately for Storm, membership will never grow or attract born and bred Victorians as long as memberships are more expensive than AFL clubs. AAMI is one of the very few world class RL stadiums and should be doing more whilst they still have a strong team. Really, really stupid.)

Im not in favour of it tickets being exclusively offered to the members of the competing teams, but i would be in favour of tickets only being offered to members in general (assuming this fills the stadium).

Its not enough for players to talk about how great it is having members in the stands, there should be a tangible benefit.

Tickets sold exclusively to club members might be a good idea for finals games once demand is high enough.

Gold Coast did it for this preseason. Not sure if it'll last until the premiership season begins, as I assume the change from the Uterus will bring a big rise in sales by itse,f anyway
