I thought the reason Queensland didn't have City Country is because they have no cities...

if people are so worried about QLD's giving zero f**ks about CvsC, why not make it a collaboration of both states. Qld Nsw country vs Brisbanne Sydney city? Or better yet, make it national? Obviously it would skewer the whole pre selection for origin, but does the current format really mean much in the way of the selection process anyway?

A) QLD don't have the depth of a NSW.
B) QLD don't have the will to play a fixture prior to Origin that may expose players to injury.

I think for one game of year that is taken to the NSW Country, the fixture is fine as is.

Maybe just telecast the Residents game into QLD instead. Even then not getting great ratings in QLD for 2 to 4pm on Sunday once a year isn't a big deal

How about replacing it with QLD Residents v NSW Country? Or Brisbane v Sydney and QLD Country v NSW Country?

To have City v Country in a national competition just goes to show that the NRL is still the NSWRL competition on steroids.

The sooner Brisbane/SEQ gets another team as well as Perth and 1-2 Sydney clubs that are holding back the company get moved on the better, but that's for another thread

This. That's a definite upside.

Just don't show it Brisbane. Keep it NSW only.

It shouldn't have a national spot if there's something better. I agree

The residents game would have been on TV apart from the delayed test match. New some people who were interested in watching it.

Knights v Tigers didmt sound appealing considering where they are on the table. A-League may have had some effect. How did the Raiders v Dragons game rate?

Not to panic. Only the second Sunday Ch9 match this season to rate below 300k in Sydney.

Two main reasons for this:

1) As you said, Knights vs Tigers wasn't exactly what you would call 'appealing'. Both teams were outside the top 8.

2) https://twitter.com/MediaweekAUS/status/600085341316362240

Knights vs Tigers went head-to-head with the A-League GF on both SBS and Fox Sports. Yeah, as Brutus said, the A-League ratings didn't set the world on fire, but still....the % of those 143k who watched the A-League GF on SBS in Sydney and the % of those 251k nationwide who watched on Fox Sports and live in Sydney, who may have otherwise watched the NRL match had the A-League match not been on.

Whilst it is typically predicted that NRL crowds decline during the 8 week Origin period (Rounds 11-18, before full 8-match rounds appear in Round 19), it will be interesting to see how the tv ratings are during this period.

Yep, pulled back a touch and yet it will still be in the top few rating programs for the year. Pretty good going.
