Best result to wake up to this morning. Indian bloke at work who gave me shit on Tuesday is a very convenient no show at work today.

Commentary in General was dire yesterday

Praise is fine but the Warne-Slats kiss ass of Kohli & Dhoni went on all night
The "omg they run so fast!" Statement alone was repeated a dozen times easily

I only watched 4 overs of it during the Indian Innings and it happened to be while Slats and Warne were in the box. Some of the most cringeworthy commentary I have ever heard.

Suck shit India, if any team is a one man team it is India.. without Kohli they don't even make it out of the group

But seriously, what the f**k.. it just shows how big-headed Kohli is, he bowls the last over of the game and gets carted accordingly, at least give it to a full-time bowler, like your spinner

Would have been the captains call Dhoni.

Kholi bowled the 14th over when WI were going the tonk and took 1/3. Should have had another over for mine, but instead captain for the ages Dhoni bowled the others who got murdered. Come last over game was all over and Dhoni thought bringing back Kholi would do the trick

I watched most of the WI innings, as soon as I heard Warnes voice I muted the sound, and just read cricinfo commentary as back up when required

Poms v WI

Hopefully Windies can get up here

He was lucky that Charles holed out, he could have been 0.1 for 6, but there was no way he was bowling Kohli to Andre Russell unless he really had to as against spin being the only other option.

Coulda woulda shoulda...

WI were basically on par coming from well behind, with two set batsmen batting at will. The change of pace contributed to the wicket. Fact is Kholi was difficult to get away that whole over. I thought he was worth a 2nd over straight away, rather than at the death

Good to see Dhoni blaming the loss of toss and the dew for the loss

"Thirty more [runs] would have been really nice," he said, when asked if he felt 192 was too low a total to defend on a flat pitch against West Indies. "But you have to realise it was half an hour early start, a bad toss to lose. When they started batting the first few overs were fine, but after that there was a considerable amount of dew, which meant the spinner couldn't bowl how they would have liked to.

Coulda woulda shoulda.

The RRR when Dhoni bowled the 14th over was 11 (as it had roughly been since about the 7th or 8th over).

Charles holes out first ball. Simmons plays the next 4 balls. Russell pushes his first ball faced for a single. The over goes for 4 runs; RRR over 12.

Russell in the next over belts Pandya for a 4 and 6. Simmons then joins in with a 6 in that over after being given his 2nd life from a no ball. This over goes for 18 runs. West Indies are well and truly flying again.

RRR back to 11 with Russell on strike and swinging. The RRR remains about this - the "death overs" came early as they often do chasing a score over 190+.

And you'd bowl Kohli another over immediately? Do you know what Russell did Kohli when Kohli bowled to him? Smashed him easily. I'm pleased that you think it would have not happened earlier, but personally - I highly doubt it be so. I agree with Dhoni not wanting Kohli bowling anywhere near Russell at that point or ideally ever and find the suggestion quite amusing.

It was upto Nehra, Bumrah and Pandya to get Russell (and Simmons) out because the pitch was offering nothing for Jadeja and Ashwin, plus the dew factor.

There was nothing wrong with his decision not to bowl Kohli again immediately; it was a stroke of flukey genius inspired luck to bring him on for one over in the first place to get Charles or Simmons to hole out through the lack of pace. Russell is a much more powerful slogger than either of them.

India, WI and England both prefer to chase, dew is one factor but it also gives them assurances of innings tempo of a winning score. India did not score enough runs on that pitch. Rahane misread the pitch and batted too slow.

Just for the record..

I do not hate players, I hate and I mean hate the BCCI.

I have respect for Virat, not a fan, but he is just a good player.

I do however hate the fat rich billionaires who run this stuff whilst millions live in poverty. Makes me sick..the ratio of those whom have nothing whilst others own 74 story buildings in Mumbai as a house.

f**k them, really I do not believe in hell, but if there was one, these pricks should be there...true hatred.

Well, they are helping pay for Warner's lambourghini and Watto's hair dye too.

All cricketing nations are suckling from the teet of India and its broadcasting dollar, made possible in a free market of competition and bidding between broadcasters common in capitalism framework, some more so than Pakistan who cannot secure a tour from the India even to the UAE. Australia suffers no such issue to have India tour regularly. $$$$$$

Stupid pricks play an English game.......at least I am of English..

600px-British_Raj_Red_Ensign.svg.png

And India is from the British Raj. I guess you think aboriginals are stupid pricks if they decide to play cricket too.

You want to criticize the BCCI - be my guest. Complain about unequal distributions of ICC funds to India, UK, and Australia. Complain about all those regular tours by India that Australia earns mega bucks from (2015, 2016, 2018) for 8 tests, 10 ODI and 3 T20. NZ will see India for one tour only in that time, 5ODI and 3 T20 - not a single test. England will be toured twice by India in the same period and get 10 tests plus 10 ODI and 2 T20 in that time. But I guess your socialist ideals apply only and more strictly to Indian distribution of wealth internally and not to ICC full member nations distribution of wealth. The whole "bash on the BCCI" by Australian and English cricket fans forgets the facts that the ECB and CA are counting the cash in their tills too.

Personally, I would like to see limited overs cricket in the Olympics, and then it almost certainly would be in China because they'll fund the persuit of any gold medal at the summer games. It is being blocked by the Big 3 - who do not want Olympic disruption to their home scheduling. And are probably scared of what bringing cricket into China will bring for the game. With its population and resources, China would take to the game far quicker than the Afghans have. With their popualtion, and demonstrable sporting propensity as demonstrated by Olympic sports, I expect they'll find super star freaks in little time flat.

Complaining about expanding world cricket to non-English nations is rather novel to me. Non English nations play rugby union and rugby league, do you think they're all stupid pricks for doing so? Australia has a baseball team. And a basketball team. Not English sports. And the whole world plays soccer, in the likely event that England is to claim that sport as formally their own design.

And seriously, India was the 'jewell in the crown' and significantly funded the British Empire like no other asset did for a 100 years through exploitation under British rule, and Indians still fought proudly in the World Wars alongside Britain. Indians have earned the right to play any English game they want without complaint from either colonials or members of the homeland.

How's China going at Rugby 7s?

You don't dominate technical team sports ( particularly Men's) quickly regardless of how much money and population you have to throw at it ( see just about every other team sport at the Olympics, Basketball, Soccer,Volleyball, Water Polo etc)

How's China going at Rugby 7s?

It has not even made its Olympic debut yet nor is rugby 7's confirmed past the 2020 games at this stage. Wait until its a permanent fixture to run this argument.

You don't dominate technical team sports ( particularly Men's) quickly regardless of how much money and population you have to throw at it ( see just about every other team sport at the Olympics, Basketball, Soccer,Volleyball, Water Polo etc)

Those are sports popular in the continent and the Americas. In fact, typical cricketing nations are pretty much shit at those sports. China's record at Basketball is probably better than Australia's, but even if it is arguably not - does Australia have any medals in men's basketball? I would say China is doing better than NZ at all those sports, and probably all nations bar England for soccer. I really don't know and am not prepared to invest time in looking it up because I could not care less about sports like volleyball or water polo. But I bet China has more teams qualified in the Olympics for those sports you have written than any cricketing nation bar Australia.

Cricket only has 10 full ICC member nations, and 4 of those are Asian, England, and some former English colonies. As demonstrated by Afghanistan it does not take too long to get competitive in T20. China has a lot more resources at its disposal. Cricket does not feature largely on the continent, the Windies are the only Americas exponent, and likewise for Zimbabwe and Safrica for the African nations. That makes it heck of a lot easier to be a medal candidate in the sport.

Just ask the Irish or the Kenyans in 50 overs, a lot easier to upset in twenty overs. And they're won't be looking to dominate the sport, just to win medals at T20, and they'd probably expand to 50 overs as well I would imagine.

If Asian countries can play, compete and dominate cricket into the top 10, China will fancy its chances. Bangladesh only debuted in the 1999 cricket world cup. Afghanistan the 2015 world cup. But if cricket takes off in China, then there will two massive populations playing the game with massive financial resources. Two is better than one.

Afghan Cricket Association formed in 2000 by the way, and they have very little money. Imagine what they could achieve with funding for more specialized coaching than Inzimam. And now compare that to China. You have your own view on China that is different from many cricket writers? That is fine. Personally, I'd back the billion Chinese to learn cricket well and have India as their "rival" and "role model". The fact remains the Chinese government will not fund it until it is an olympic sport.

So do you agree with the ICC not trying to make it an Olympic sport? Because that is far more the issue than China's possible success at it. There are plenty more Olympic countries than just China.

Even though cricket is played in less countries than say Football and Basketball, don't underestimate how hard it would be starting a program from scratch giving the facilities and disciplines involved...

Bangladesh has been playing cricket for decades with modest success...

I think you are overstating Afganistan's modest achievements to date...

To compare China's success with basketball to Australia's is laughable... Look at the numbers from both countries to have played in the NBA just for starters..

Perhaps I read you wrong, but you are not suggesting China is better than current Asian champions Australia at Soccer?

Australia has played them many times since they joined Asia, and you will find the record is one sided..
.
Australia is better at the other Olympic team sports I have mentioned...

Cricket could be an Olympic Sport tomorrow, but I suspect it would take decades before China could be rated a better team than Australia in any form of the game..( yes.. It's feasible they could fluke a 20/20 game- what would that prove?)

But yeah - neither China nor Australia have medals in Basketball. But China does have a much bigger former star NBA player than Australia has produced as yet - but Simmons may change that in the future. I thought you may go all "Australia rah rah". I wisely excluded Australia from the China argument because I am well aware of the 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics and what happened in Australia in its aftermath (and what was being initiated before it because it was hardly a surprising result). Perhaps you're a little too young to remember what was occurring in Australian sports at this time and what occurred as a remedy.

The joke of the year was what do Carl Lewis and Australia have in common? ;) Australians did not like the joke too much.

Afghanistan is a war torn country that established its cricket board in 2000. They're already competitive in T20. If you think that they're not, just have a look at the scorecards from this years World T20. England were humbled. Sri Lanka pushed. And the Windies beaten. Their spinners would push for selection in all teams.

If the ICC cared, Afghanistan would get further games against top nations and be be allowed to flounder. But there is no money in it for anyone so that is not likely to happen. So people would rather dismiss the argument.

And seriously, Australia has not come anywhere near to dominating T20 - so China hardly need to be dominated or ranked ahead of to get a medal - so I think you're a little in a dreamland. Aus cannot win the World T20 - they are no barried to a gold medal if it wass an Olympic sport like the USA may well be for basketball. Perhaps you missed Kenya's finish at the 2003 world cup in 50 over cricket. Noone is suggesting for one second China would be the remotest bit interested in test cricket for quite some time, but decades for a T20 medal - yep that the can do and would possibly do as they have done for continental sports, where there are far more teams competing that cricket's mere few.

Your argument is that the Big 3 are scared of China and making cricket an Olympic sport.

My argument is why would they care when China has had very minor success at any Olympic team sport.

I think the opposite would occur and they would welcome China.

You set the male paradigm.

Australia has 138 golds and 486 medals.

China has 201 golds and 473 medals.

China will continue to dominate Australia in Olympics.

Olympic domination is recent thing for the Chinese.
