I think they care.. But they are just idiots

Fans like people on this forum probably think about crowds and ideas for improving nrl every day of their lives ..

Do we really think nrl hq staff do..?

Season opener in shit hole Stadium
4 games in a one weather zone
First 6pm could have been nz game easy
Melbourne at home tonight perfect weather apparently no afl

There is some pretty easy low hanging fruit this weekend that they have f**ked up

I hear you.

Things to think about

- A few years back the dogs had a promotion aiming to break 40000. It was a against the dragons. Now this...

- The nrl stated as an aim to have 20000 average by 2018? Then we get this...

- half time entertainment at souths/tigers were people catching high balls and juniorfooty. No bloody effort, no passion

- This kind of scheduling kills/hurts any early buzz about the season. AFL draw has so much more thought put into, ive analyzed it for years. I cant understand why melbourne arnt given a round 1 match?

We the fans, many on the website are the rusted on fans who get treated as mugs. Tv first, players/officals second, interest groups third, fans/junior clubs well fourth.

Do it then

don't claim to be able to do a whole draw, but the opening round should should have a game in every region for the fans. I think something like this would be a good opening round going of this years timeslots if they stay:

Thursday 8pm Storm v sharks Melbourne
Friday 6pm Warriors v Roosters Auckland
Friday 8pm Broncos v Bulldogs Brisbane
Saturday 4pm Knights v Manly Newcastle
Saturday 6pm Raiders v dragons Canberra
Saturday 8pm Cowboys v titans Townsville
Sunday Double header ANZ stadium Sydney
Tigers v panthers 4pm
Rabbitohs v Parra 6pm

Nice, the double header could go either way for me.

The NRL will reap what it sows.

6pm Friday lol.

Two games on Friday lol. Two in Sydney lol x 10.

There should be one Friday night game that is the spectacle with all the hype and razamataz. Three on Saturday, four if you get Perth in at two hour behind 7pm WA, 9pm Eastern time. Four Sunday.

Im tired of reading threads about crowds, entertainment, TV, radio, scheduling and expansion and everything else and feeling LU posters have more idea, more care, more passion and more understanding than the custodians and money business men tasked with running our game.

There is so much to love about RL, it shouldn't be this hard.

Johnny you may have been as passenger in broncos premierships of 92/93 but your pretty good at making a great first round. Well done

1st round is a great time for a grand final rematch! By round 5, 6, whatever, its too late, injuries, lack of form, etc all play to ruin the importance/quality or a gf rematch

Setting a draw isn't as easy as that (not in the modern age anyway) - club requests, venue availability and so on all play into it. And if you change Round 1, you have to change all the other rounds.

It is what it is and the clubs and the league need to market it better.

And we need to also accept less people will attend in poor weather.

As much shit as the Friday 6pm game copped, it still had 274,000 watching last night. As long as it rates its backside off it will probably stay.

8,712 isn't all that bad either considering the weather and timeslot.

You only have to stab yourself in the eye with a knitting needle once to know it's not a good idea!

So in the case of the Melbourne Storm, venue availability isn't an issue-- AAMI Park is empty this weekend, yet the weekend of our first home game (Round 3) AAMI Park will have NRL (Thurs)/Super 15 (Fri)/A-League (Sat), so the ground can be converted pretty quickly.

..and you can't say that the Storm request to play away games in the first fortnight or that the NRL sees it as a better crowd decision to have the Storm play away in front of under 10,000 people when the Storm's last FOUR Melbourne based games last season had more than 20,000 fans.

It's simple; the NRL don't care about fans attending games-- particularly outside of Sydney.

Do the NRL make a buck out of crowds? Pretty sure gate takings are all the Club's so its no wonder NRL don't give a toss.

It's mind blowing how the NRL doesn't latch onto these opportunities, the Storm could easily open up the season with a 20k crowd.

If clubs make more money from the gate then that's less money the NRL has to spend bailing them out, simple.
I don't know how they can't see that

Because they have decided its worth making hundreds of millions more in tv revenue than tens of thousands more in ticket sales.

Short term strategy
