2017 Crowd Watch

Not sure what is hard to understand... these clubs are frozen because of their own petty internal politics. Its not like the NRL haven't offered incentives for these changes to happen... wasn't it something like
$11 million on offer for clubs to relocate. I guess that incentive will be gone now that the clubs are gouging that amount every season now. The clubs are as much to blame if not more than the NRL regarding location. The impression I get with the merged clubs is that they want to satisfy all of their histories and pamper to them by splitting games, but this seems to really please no one. Maybe they need to bite the bullet and just settle on a single venue, and get on with growing from there. Seems like pissing around the edges pleases no-one. The merged clubs still seem to have an identity crisis of who they are, and its definitely holding them back imo.
This is all true.

Listen champ. The last upgrade to Shark Park was payed for byyyyyyyyyy THE GOVERNMENT!

$9mill for the southern stand.

The NRL can dictate to clubs. They run the comp. They just won't.

Bit different to a $100-200mill investment though. Sure the odd few mill here and there to keep voters happy is all well and good but wont turn these sows ears into silk purses.

Stunningly well thanks, hows the reigning premiers going? Crowds must be through the roof with all that success?

doesnt work that way. sydney crowd numbers are generally below the NRL average. it's the donkeys.....and to a lesser extent, cowgirls and knights that drive the higher average.

l.

Generally Sydney averages 13-16k over the last decade. Not too far off the total average and usually around the same amount. This year is a bit different due to Melbourne and Canberra improving by quite a bit and Sydney generally sucking.

Minor work is t goi g to make much difference. They need new stands with modern corporate facilities and decent roofs. Your looking at $50mill starting price for a decent sideline stand.

And the clubs have to find some money too. You're English. You'd know more about the Taylor report. Clubs in the premier league had to go all seater or bust. They found the money.

The normal big hitters of eels, Souths, Bulldogs have been poor on and off the field, then the rest are lucky to get 15k in a good year anyways, the sht timeslots have dragged this lot down to 12k range. Only roosters ah e got the numbers and that's on the back of out of town games. The usual below avg clubs, manly, sharks etc have also been hit with apathy and tv slots and down from a usual low base anyway. All in all pretty depressing for the games most important city.

Tbf a lot of them were built by the local councils, not the clubs. Add in that stadiums in uk don't cost a fraction of building costs here so was more achievable.

- The tigers have averaged over 15k 10 of the last 14 seasons and 22k at anz.

- The dragons average 19k at anz and around 13k at both kogarah and Wollongong.

- The bulldogs have averaged over 15k 14 of the last 15 years including 4 seasons over 20k. The only average 10k at belmore.

- Souths average 16k at anz including 22k in 2013. They averaged 9k at Redfern.

- parra average 25k at anz and 13.5k at parramatta stadium.

ANZ, as much as of a sh*thole as it is, have increased every teams crowds.
The main problem is the scheduling. Crowds have dropped this year in Sydney because of the terrible schedule and the poor form of 3 of sydneys 5 biggest teams. These are fixable problems. The new stadiums will help but until we fix the schedule the average won't improve as much as it could.

ANZ clubs looking at working together to avoid the utter shit fans have been served up this season.

At least it's a start in the right direction! They may have been reading this forum as all the initiatives the clubs came up with have been spoken about on here many times for last few years..

They could still do a lot more.

Should be blockbusters only played Sunday arvo or Friday night 7:45.

Given NRL is declining while rep games are booming, im inclined to say that we should reducce the NRL season and host more rep comps...

- Rep payments would become more important to player salaries, so they would be fighting for spots in teams.
- It would reduce club power over the game
- the ARLC could add or reduce teams every year without uproars about "our right to participate"

And the few number of NRL games would make people appreciate them more and turn up

.

I really like this idea...

Im sure other clubs will complain that they deserve these time slots and how unfair it is that these 5 clubs get first dibs. But the ARLC response should be "youve done f*ck all to DESERVE these slots. Give us a better proposal and we might put you in ahead".

There is such a damaging sense of entitlement across the entire NRL. Its why clubs still think its ok to play in run-down grounds for 6k fans, its why clubs will tell fans to stay away if the NRL tried to move games and its why clubs still think they deserve to be treated well despite all of this.

Brisbane - excellent
Melbourne - decent
NQ - excellent
Roosters - ok but we all know it's massively boosted by Anzac Day
Newcastle - pretty good (considering where they are)
Canberra - decent
Tigers - decent
Bulldogs - poor
Eels - poor
Titans - average
Dragons - poor
Sharks - poor
Penrith - poor
Warriors - poor
Manly - poor
Souffs - diabolical

Well teams that have been extremely poor this year and probably have reason to have shit crowds are doing surprisingly well (Tigers, Knights)

Meanwhile somewhat successful teams like Dragons, Eels, Penrith, Cronulla (wtf) are pretty poor

We have an average of 13,000. It's not great but certainly not poor.

Considering how hyped up they were at the start of the season, record membership and recent form I would've expected atleast 15k

I'll change poor to "average"

Hopefully a sell out crowd this weekend boosts those numbers
