You bring up a valid point. The suburban grounds are an attraction and very much appealing to fans. I think it's valid that ANZ can attract fans with the right mix though. This mix wasn't given a chance last Sunday through poor marketing on top of a cavernous venue . I'm actually all for suburban grounds. Just don't think the marketing is good atm.

Honestly unless a game is getting 35k (which is only ANZAC Day/Origin/GF/special events), we don't need to be at ANZ. It looks awful even if 20k are there. Play it at the suburban grounds and get full houses.

the NRL has its fans spread thinly across too many teams in the same city.
There is no doubt this is the case, but wiping one of them out is easier said than done. As they found with the Rabbitohs. So they are waiting for clubs to go broke, like the Bears, Steelers and Jets did.

Bears did not go broke! They were kicked out unfairly. A shamefull decision from a flawed superleague "peace" agreement.

But they're not, the clubs with lowest crowd avg's play at the suburban grounds!

Agree. I've been an advocate of the suburban grounds. Touch up the amenities and get them to 25000 capacity and its perfect for this great code.

That's because you are an idiot. Suburban grounds draw the smallest crowds, are the worse effected by poor weather and have the worse corporate facilities to attract sponsors. And your "touch up" amounts to hundreds of millions of $'s that clubs don't have and the Govt isn't going to pay for.

Unless it's Origin, finals or the GF, ANZ probably isn't worth it. It's fantastic when full. Great atmosphere etc. But it is lifeless during regular club footy games. Western Sydney Stadium is the solution

Lets hope so and that the financial offer is as good if not better for clubs to play at WSS. Would be such a shame if the best club RL stadium in Sydney only hosts one team.
Wests, Bulldogs Eels @WSS
Souths, roosters St's Sydney games @Allianz.
f**k ANZ right off.

Parramatta CBD workers aside, I wouldn't call Parra Stadium that easy to get to either tbh?

Trains more direct to Parra and the walk along Church St is full of pre-game food and drink options.

And the big one, people will actual enjoy the experience of being at New-Parra.

Understand. However fans have turned up to that stadium before. Almost 60000 lobbed up in 2013 when the Roosters played Souths? It is a cavernous venue. So are we stating that the Tigers should have used Leichardt Oval on Sunday? Would your mates have attended that venue?

People will go out of their way for a major event.
75k were there for the classic Dogs v Parra GFQ final of 09, but they'll be lucky to have a third of that in a couple of weeks.

Not much they can do about it in the very short term, there's no other suitable venue, but when they are refurbing it in a couple of years hopefully they take a lot of the issues into account.

Bingo, and then have the big games at ANZ like SOO & the Grand Final.

It isn't rocket science.

I thought this would get a bite. They were considered unviable because of their debts. The criteria were framed with the clubs they wanted to keep in mind, no risk about that. It looked like the Panthers would go until the Bears did.

So you acknowledge the flawed criteria. But I think: take the criteria out of the equation altogether . The whole approach to carve up the clubs was wrong . It has lead to a weakening of the code and other codes gratefully taking up the slack! Such a shame for a well renowned and Australia wide respected competition. The whole thing was and is a shambles. Now we see a further weakening being promoted by the News Ltd press!

One code gets over 30000 to a home game . The other has two local teams and the only game in the city and gets 17000.!
This exact same game at the exact same venue got 30,420 four short weeks ago, and now it gets a little over half that. Parra-Penrith in round 5 at ANZ got half what it got in round 1 at Penrith. The problem seems to be scheduling the same game for the same audience just a few weeks apart. It is lazy scheduling.

Yes I do, but there were too many teams within a few km of the CBD and that is why it was done. The Rabbitohs went too, but they fought and won. The Bears could have fought too and they too might have won. But they decided to get into bed with Manly instead.

I am not a fan of any of the Sydney clubs - but I love the game and I hope we don't loose any of them. I hope that we can find an amicable situation in the future where we can make some room for clubs to grow in Sydney by say slowly moving the Dragons to Woollongong full-time (apart from a heritage match at Kograh v the Sharks and the ANZAC match v the Roosters at Allianz) and by moving another team full-time to Gosford. Maybe Manly if they can't find a solution for their Brookvale oval problem.

This will keep the clubs in the comp and not lose their fans (i.e. they can still watch their side play away games in Sydney with a special Sydney based membership). I would then add Perth, Brisbane 2 in 2022 and NZ 2 and Adelaide in 2027.

Some of us believe our great game deserves more than a 14k avg crowd!

Lol
Surely not you! You would throw out the baby with the bath water. Having no idea of how significant the Sydney based clubs are to the code is your biggest failing. From this you ignorantly seek the loss of such clubs with no idea of how much damage to the code is being done. That's you PR.
