Yeah people still talk about the Dragons amazing 2009 season.

I want us to win it this year and I think it would be fitting after losing only 1 game during the regular season and a fairytale turnaround from the lows of 2019 but if we don't then we'd need to make up for it by winning one in the next couple of years. Parramatta had an incredible season in 2001 but your mob outplayed them on GF night and 19 years later they still haven't won another comp. We don't want to be another Eels of 2001.

This is well said and the message I have been trying to convey to you guys for a few months now.

There has been plenty of "If we don't win this year we have still had an awesome season and we will win next year or year after".

Your time is now and the Eels example you posted is the perfect cautionary tale, bulldogs 2012-2014 is another one as is Cronulla 1999 (They of course have since won but took nearly 20 years).

Then you look at teams who, thankfully for their fan base, did take their opportunity like Wests 05 and Dragons 10 who haven't really gotten close since despite I am sure believing at the time that they were entering a dynasty.

At the end of the day roosters and storm are exceptions to the rule. That is not to say that Penrith can't emulate that but history suggests these types of opportunities need to be taken.

And out of you current squad do you know many played junior footy for one of those 4 clubs?

Specifically those 4 clubs, only Radley.

You would be hard pressed to not consider Crighton a true junior though as he played Union throughout high school at Scott's and then joined our SG Ball side.

That actually puts us equal with Parra in terms of true juniors this year which I find astounding.

Yeah but if the criteria is junior catchment area, we have about 3 full NRL squads worth playing for other clubs

Didn’t Lachlan Lam play for Clovelly Crocodiles?

That actually makes it worse. Parra's use of junior resources is a disgrace, it's not like the Parra juniors playing for other clubs were poached as established players. Parra just let them slip though the grand canyon sized cracks while filling their squad with players developed by other clubs.

Hey, that's not fair on Parra
Sometimes they let them slip through the cracks, then buy them back later at an inflated price!

It's pretty sad really. To get back to the glory days of the eighties I think they need to re think the strategy. This weeks 17,
1. Clinton Gutherson Manly
2. Maika Sivo Penrith
3. Michael Jennings Penrith
4. Waqa Blake Penrith
5. Blake Ferguson Sharks
6. Dylan Brown Parra
7. Mitchell Moses Tigers
8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard Panthers
9. Reed Mahoney Dogs
10. Junior Paulo Parra
11. Shaun Lane Dogs
12. Ryan Matterson Roosters
13. Nathan Brown Souffs
14. Will Smith Knights
15. Andrew Davey Cowboys
16. Kane Evans Roosters
17. Marata Niukore Warriors

2 from 17, is there a club worse than developing juniors?

It does. But it’s not as bad as it used to be. It’s not like the players leaving are going on to even have worthwhile careers (let’s not include Papenhuyzen or Keary - they lived in the area for a poofteenth of their lives).

Moses and Matterson are the juniors referred to by @adamkungl
And if Penrith are going to claim all their “juniors” we’ll include Reed and Marata.

Fair enough. It's still pretty shit though.

As I said mate they should all be considered your juniors given the development invested by panthers but if I’m to nit pick as others do with roosters then you can make arguments That they shouldn’t be particularly those Who played junior footy miles away from Penrith or are from Sydney suburbs that aren’t even part of the Nepean shire like Blacktown and Windsor but become part of Penrith catchment by default
Edwards grow up and played junior footy in bellingen
Naden Wellington cowboys
Cleary played junior footy in auckland
JFH played junior footy in NZ
Martin played for Temora dragons
Yeo played in Dubbo
These 6 are no different to Friend , Cordner, Aubbo etc

Victor Radley - Clovelly Crocodiles.

Yeah probably

Only Tupou in our squad as far as I am aware though.

Daniel Tupou played his junior football for the Berala Bears (Canterbury Junior League) and the Guildford Owls (Parramatta Junior League).

Cleary moved to Penrith when he was 13/14 years old. He may not have played his first junior footy with Penrith, but he definitely played some with us.

Also another difference is that Penrith has made the central West a development area. Effectively it’s an extension of the Penrith region. The club isn’t just going out to that area and scouting the best juniors, they’re actually putting time & money into the region.

Like I said I’m nit picking. I’m using the same standard applied to us for demonstration purposes. Cleary is a panther thru and thru.

Mahoney played SG Ball for Bulldogs though
