Sorry but I disagree we were not favourites or close to favourites in the prelims. If we were favourites I may agree with you.

You need a lot of luck to win a premiership as well and GI and Sam retiring as well as being very injured at the back end of their careers didn’t help us plus Latrell was injured last year.

I would much rather be making the final 4 compared to where we were years ago.... it’s very hard to find a player that can help your club to final 4.

When Reyno plays we have a 65percent win rate and when he does not play it drops to 30percent.

If all key players are fit at the back end this could be our year.

What’s needed though is a top 4 finish and then you need to get the week off.

Reyno and Cody have won us so many games mate. The last 3 prelims we haven’t had that week off either which is a big disadvantage.

In fact if you ask me I think over the last few seasons with what we’ve had to face I think we actually overachieved.
I doesn’t matter. You lost the point. The point it Renno has to prove he is worthy of a three year contract.

Fact: AR got us to 6 prelims in the past 9 yrs. BUT we only played in 1GF. 1 out of 6. Let that sink in.

Fact: With AR has a 40% win rate in all finals footy.
Fact: We all hate the C word, but the word choke is already doing the rounds.
Fact: Why can we score 30+ a game easily during the season but find it real hard to score 2 tries in a prelim.

I agree 100% with Cronk in tonight’s NRL360 the managers are more than entitled to say Reno here is 1 more year, give us a GF appearance in 21 or 22 and we’ll give to 2 more years.

i 100% blame our choking record on Renno and Cody. They need to get over their fear of big game league. They have both CHOKED in SOO and in the last 3 prelims.

it is good to see the management taking the C word seriously.

Speaking of Cronk, he only had 1 premiership next to his name at AR's age playing in stacked Melbourne sides. Melbourne sides that had a 9 turn up during prelims. What were they thinking re-signing him at that stage of his career?

AR's win percentage in finals is actually 50% and from my research, Nathan Cleary (55.56%) is the only active half who has had more success in finals.

AR also has a 50% record of getting the team into the GF after earning the week before off and a 100% record in the GF. So I'm not sure how the choking tag actually applies.

The C that should be focused on is captain. 12 months ago he was named captain of the team and now he should be told that he's not good enough to be with the team in a couple of years? I'm no "expert" on a click bait panel show but even i know that isn't a recipe for success.

No you are like Cronk in your assessment - WRONG

The club is hesitating on a long term contract for Adam because of concerns about injury and durability. It has nothing to do with whether "he is worth it".

And Cronk is a dog and cut up because Adam smashed him and broke his shoulder. Cronk is still harbouring that grudge.

His idea is stupid. So if Souths win the GF this year, Cronk says then give Adam and extended contract. So if Adam then gets injured for 2 years after, that makes sense?

Adam doesnt have to "audition" for a contract. It is not about that, the issue is whether he'll be injury-free for that whole time.

The other thing you are wrong about is Cody and Adam to blame for the last 3 PF. If you look properly, Cooke needs to take responsibility, he has been pretty poor in all 3 of those games

Yeah, I'm not overly keen on it but concede that it will happen one day. The decision won't be made with you or i in mind, it'll be to target kids and merch sales. There's already a sponsor where a name would be anyway so it may actually be an improvement.

This isn't related to our club but it's worth a mention. Can't say I'm surprised, we knew it was coming, but it's kind of surreal to have the Cameron Smith era officially over. GI is my greatest of all time but in terms of the game as a whole, there's no doubt it's Smith. There will never be another career like his.

From News Corp, pretty hard to disagree with Wayne,

Wayne Bennett lobbies Souths board to keep Adam Reynolds at Redfern for life

Super coach Wayne Bennett has come out swinging in support of star halfback Adam Reynolds in his contract spat with Rabbitohs bosses.

Wayne Bennett has appealed for Souths hierarchy to keep Adam Reynolds at the club for life as he lamented the NRL salary cap laws that could drive the local junior out of Redfern.

In his only interview on the contract saga, Bennett came out swinging in support of his premiership-winning playmaker before Thursday night’s season-opener against the Storm at AAMI Park.

News Corp can reveal Bennett has privately urged Rabbitohs bosses to soften their stance on a hardline 12-month deal to the off-contract Reynolds, who is seeking the greater security of a two-year extension.

There are fears Reynolds is an injury hazard as he approaches his 31st birthday in July, but Bennett blasted critics of the halfback’s health, with statistics showing he has averaged 22 games per season since his debut in 2012.

The South Sydney product has amassed 206 NRL games, helping break the club’s 43-year premiership drought in 2014, and super coach Bennett is flexing his muscle to ensure Reynolds stays at Redfern.

“I don’t want to see Adam leave,” Bennett said. “I can’t see Adam Reynolds at any other club and I’ve made that clear — that’s why I’m confident he will stay.

“I still believe they will work it out.

“People ask why the hell is this happening? The reality is the salary cap is designed for successful clubs to lose players, the more successful you get, the more players you will have to release.

“I have a huge opinion of Adam, he is a pleasure to coach and he is important for South Sydney.”

Entering his 10th year at Souths, Reynolds has never played fewer than 16 games in a single season.

The former NSW Origin halfback has played 20 or more games in seven of his nine campaigns, evidence for Bennett that Reynolds would not suffer the same fate as Greg Inglis and Sam Burgess, who retired prematurely midway through lucrative deals.

“The talk about Adam’s injuries doesn’t make sense,” Bennett said.

“He has averaged more than 20 games per season, so he’s out there more than he’s not.

“Adam is getting to that older category and Souths are worried about what has happened in the past with guys like ‘GI’ and Sam who had to retire with injury and we lost a fair bit of money because they were on long-term contracts.”

Bennett has not been heavily involved in contract talks because his deal as head coach expires at season’s end. But his successor, current assistant Jason Demetriou, is a fan of Reynolds and is determined for him to run Souths’ offence next season.

Reynolds could attract in excess of $700,000 a season on the open market, but Bennett is confident the goalkicking schemer would be prepared to sacrifice dollars to be a one-club legend.

“The issue is the terms and length of the deal,” Bennett said. “Adam has a position and the club has a position and someone will have to make a sacrifice somewhere.

“This is a situation the club finds itself in. It’s a salary cap situation as well and that’s the difficult part of it all.

“Souths are bringing through some kids who will be the superstars of the game, guys like Cam Murray, Campbell Graham and Latrell Mitchell and that puts pressure on our ability to keep Adam Reynolds.

“There’s a squeeze on us at the top.

“Adam has been a wonderful player for the club and I still believe his best years are ahead of him. I think it will be sorted out.”

Im sure there will be a compromise in the AR situation.
Most players threaten and agitate during contract negotiations, remember elias and co at the tigers?
AR and his family are entrenched at souths, to move to another club would uproot their lives. The club has to try its will in negotiations, then adjust accordingly, thats what a negotiation is,back and forward until an agreement is reached, which is a compromise on both sides.
AR will go nowere, dont worry.

I am suprised with recent reports that the club won’t budge on 1yr especially after his manager has come out saying he would be open to accept a 2yr deal. The club should compromise and put this to bed ASAP

Bringing through? Latrell has 110 first grade games and is commencing his 6th season in the NRL. Graham 69 games, starting his 5th season, and Murray 83 games, also into his 5th season. These are established first graders.

The issue here is that players such as those mentioned and no doubt others as well want pay rises commensurate with the way the side performed in the back half of 2020. Same issues we have.
