whats the point of comparing it to AFL? if anything it looks favourable to the Lions considering Brisbane is a League mad city. How about we do one for Sydney across both codes?
Must admit, you did get me curious. Here are the top 10 Sydney crowds for the year:

NRL Roosters v Dragons: 40,191
AFL Swans v Hawthorn: 37,052
NRL Roosters v Souths: 36,639
AFL Swans v Carlton: 36,310
NRL Bulldogs v Souths: 35,211
NRL Bulldogs v Parra: 33,866
AFL Swans v Port Adelaide: 31,686
AFL Swans v GWS: 31,615
AFL Swans v West Coast: 31,367
AFL Swans v St Kida: 30,123

Pretty good considering our fan base is divided amongst 9 teams and theirs is concentrated into two (well, one because no one watches GWS). It also needs to be considered that we have Origin 3, Souths v Chooks in Rd 27, some big finals matches and the GF to come. By the end of the season the NRL will dominate this list with about 8 of the 10 biggest crowds in the city and holding the top three spots.

The Swans, much like the Lions rely on away support from expat supporters of the big Melbourne clubs to swell their crowds. Outside of that, they have a core rusted on AFL fanatics but both have failed to grow their crowd averages in any meaningful way since the SL war.

Brisbane Watch Update:

By Club
Broncos: 35,100
Dolphins: 31,373 (Suncorp games only)
Lions: 28,814
Dolphins: 25,276

By Code
NRL: 36,020 (with Magic Round as individual match crowds)
NRL: 34,593 (with Magic Round as 3 events)
AFL: 28,814

Top 10 Brisbane Crowds
NRL: State of Origin 2: 52,433
NRL: Dolphins v Broncos: 51,047
NRL: Magic Round Day 2: 50,183
NRL: Magic Round Day 1: 50,077
NRL: Magic Round Day 3: 46,835
NRL: Broncos v Cowboys: 43,162
NRL: Broncos v Titans: 42,249
NRL: Broncos v Souths: 40,102
NRL: Broncos v Newcastle: 35,814
AFL: Lions v Collingwood: 33,565
It's pretty disingenuous to compare club matches to the three days of Magic Round and a rep game like SOO. You're not comparing like for like at all at that point.

Just to join in with the crowd average conversation from a Gold Coast perspective:
Gold Coast Titans Home crowd average: 16,493 - 5 games (21,550 with the Magic Round 'home' game)
Gold Coast Suns Home Crowd average: 12,424 - 5 games (11,745 with their two Darwin games)

Top 10 crowds this year:
1. Titans vs Broncos - 26,583
2. Titans vs Rabbitohs - 18,736
3. Titans vs Storm - 14,483
4. Suns vs Hawthorn - 14,242
5. Suns vs Swans - 13,648
6. Suns vs Geelong - 13,122
7. Titans vs Dragons - 12,452
8. Suns vs Melb - 11,440
9. Titans vs Tigers - 10,232
10. Suns vs North Melb - 9,672

When compared to other cities like Brisbane and Sydney, we are well below their averages, but the Titans are so far on track to have their best home attendance average since 2010.

A win over the Raiders on Sat & they get 20K plus against the Phins next week , if they lose to the Raiders I still think they get 15K plus

Round 18 is Beanie for Brain Cancer round. I kinda wished this round was scheduled after the Origin series, so that it would get a full amount of exposure.

Throughout the year there is other themed rounds like ANZAC, Easter, Magic or Indigenous. But for mine, Beanies for Brain Cancer Round should be the biggest of the lot because its health related. For a great cause, it deserves an aggregate crowd round of over 200,000k.

Mark Hughes and the Chief have done a fantastic job over the years. Hughes is an inspiration. I hope that one day, the NRL doesn't need to do a Beanie for Brain Cancer Round. What a glorious day that would be.

I lost my dad to brain cancer earlier this year , I'll be at the Raiders /Titans game on Sat & will be purchasing a beanie. It shouldn't take that to motivate me tho , its a worthy cause

the sad reality is ..... most of us at some point in our lives will have a relative or someone we know affected by some form of cancer
Its a scourge ...

It's unfortunate that it's so similar to the AFL fight MND round. I don't know who was first, but both are worthy causes.

Sorry to hear about your loss Vibing. My condolences to you and your family. I lost my mum to cancer more than 20 years ago. I was a teenager at the time. Losing her still hurts.

However, for the rest of us that are still around, we should keep fighting, and you never know.

Not at all, the Broncos v Dolphins v Lions averages include no Magic Round or Origin crowds. The other stats are what they are, RL v AFL crowds in Brisbane averages and top 10.

What's your complaint exactly?

You can do Sydney if you like, I want to focus on Brisbane.

The point of the Lions is to see how the Dolphins go against them as the years go on. The Dolphins have had a great start and have growth in them. The Lions pretty much have had a stagnant fan base for the last 25 years. The other point is that the AFL is our only main competitor now that the Reds and Roar have fallen right away.

Also... the AFL CEO did say that AFL is on the cusp of taking over as the number 1 code in QLD - lol
thats fine, I just think if you're doing it as a boast for RL then it's not really saying much. Like it or not Lions get a pretty decent crowd when they are going well. However there is no reason why NRL can't achieve good crowds in Perth with an expansion team and it doesn't have to beat the AFL teams there.

Feels like we're using the wrong marker for a successful crowd at times. What's the point of counting numbers when the powers that be are counting $.
$40+ is more than double what it should cost for a " cheap seat". Say we halved that to $20 and got another 7k bringing it to 20k.
20k =$400,000
13k = $520,000
TBF though ticket sales are just one part. For example in my $250 spend about $85 was for 2 GA tickets. The rest was merch and food. Get another 7k in spending and the overall revenue changes significantly.

The top ten crowds almost certainly wouldn't be as dominated by RL if you were comparing club games, i.e. like for like, and you intentionally chose to present the data in the manner you have to make it look like RL is more dominant than it actually is.

It's disingenuous, and you'd (rightly) be the first to complain if an AFL fan or pundit was misrepresenting the statistics in a similar way.

Its Brisbane, so it fricking well should be! In fact there shouldn't be an afl game on that list. Home of NRl and all that.

AFL needed one of the most glorious time slots (Thursday night before good Friday) to draw 33k against the highest supported AFL club. They will probably be 1 from 10 after this weekend unless they can draw more than 31,962 tonight.
