So what made you swap? Coz I'll be honest, i couldn't do it in reverse.
My team merged with Brisbane and it felt like we lost our identity. So out of curiosity I went to a Storm game and I was hooked. .I became a member in 99(cos I didn't think they did memberships and by the time I found out we did it was too late to join in the first year) I went up for our first GF in Sydney.

Who was your team that merged? sorry I don't know much about the other code. Besides it bores the hell out of me.

This is what Rugby League does to you,you get bloody hooked. I was at that Grand Final,infront of 108k fans. Wanted Saints to win though.

Fitzroy. I was as one eyed as you could be but it just wasn't the same when they merged

we don't reward mediocrity , we have a plethora of other things to do that poms don't in the sad grey miserable little towns they live in

well , actually ..on reflection
fumbles & feebles fans defy that , so the statement should be
NRL fans don't reward mediocrity...
This thread has so far proceeded on the premise that higher NRL crowds are a mark of prosperity. Seems we're now invited to welcome smaller crowds as proof of greater discernment among the fanbase. And to see committed RL fans as gullible fools with nothing better to do.

Leeds United were relegated from the EPL late last month after a 4-1 home defeat by Spurs. The atmosphere at Elland Road was venomous. Nobody was in any mood to "reward mediocrity". Furious renditions of "Sack the Board" and "You're not fit to wear the shirt" Salient fact is that the stadium was full, and would have been full regardless of where both teams sat on the ladder.

Would you not like the NRL to be pro rata as rich and dominant as the EPL? I believe it can be if NRL fans have more faith in the game. Less defensive bravado, more assured confidence.

Australians aren't soap dodgers
Is there empirical data to show that all Aussies are completely sold on the benefits of personal hygiene? I have anecdotal evidence to the contrary. Most of it blended with the smell of beer.

Especially when the Mrs gets a taste for the $12.50 bundy and coke premixes!
Was our once yearly Storm game so didn't mind but all up I reckon we spent around $250 at the game, and thats with cheapest seats. Not massive for a one off but if it was more regular then yeh I can see why people pick and choose which games to go to go.
Feels like we're using the wrong marker for a successful crowd at times. What's the point of counting numbers when the powers that be are counting $.
$40+ is more than double what it should cost for a " cheap seat". Say we halved that to $20 and got another 7k bringing it to 20k.
20k =$400,000
13k = $520,000

Reasonable prices. But I still believe for pensioners should be 10 bucks at most.

This is partly why the Warriors are getting bumper crowds- they offer great deals on the cheap seats, particularly for families, which is a huge boost for a lot of their core demographic in south Auckland of working class Polynesian families.

Broncos average at Suncorp only this year might be the highest Suncorp average we've had. Only one more game, a Thursday night against Melbourne which should draw 36-40k.

It still would have been the case if the games against Redcliffe, Eels and Roosters were at Suncorp too.

Definition : "the region of the sexual organs". Say no more.
Prior to Leeds Rhinos, the RL club based at Headingley were called the Loiners.

Not a boast about their virility. Loiner is a demonym. It just means a citizen of Leeds.

The prize for most peculiar traditional nickname in English RL undoubtedly goes to Bradford Northern who were known as the Steam Pigs.

whats the point of comparing it to AFL? if anything it looks favourable to the Lions considering Brisbane is a League mad city. How about we do one for Sydney across both codes?

You can do Sydney if you like, I want to focus on Brisbane.

The point of the Lions is to see how the Dolphins go against them as the years go on. The Dolphins have had a great start and have growth in them. The Lions pretty much have had a stagnant fan base for the last 25 years. The other point is that the AFL is our only main competitor now that the Reds and Roar have fallen right away.

Also... the AFL CEO did say that AFL is on the cusp of taking over as the number 1 code in QLD - lol

Paddle pop wions crowds are sometimes bigger then the TV audience in Brissy , again showing support for the misses & feebles in the QLD capital is thin ... very very thin.
