The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

It is an area of recent arrivals mainly from other states who would bring their previous affiliations with them
However, there are probably enough born and bred Gold Coasters now to support a team their long term and it appears to be reflected in the crowd figures for the Titans this year and last which are higher than previous years despite the team being no more successful
Couple of years ago I saw an interview with a Tweed Seagulls women's player. Said she'd grown up on the GC and Dad was an AFL fan from Victoria. The family only got into RL when she started playing.

RL has only recently targeted the female half of the population in participation strategies. We let other games and pastimes steal a march over us for decades. Colossal mistake. Mothers influence the choices of present and future generations regarding junior sport.

There doesn't appear to be any League Tag comps run through RL clubs in QLD. Gold Coast should aim to have as many girls League Tag participants as the Cronulla junior league.

The myth, perpetuated by poms living thousands of kilometres away and other idiots, that the Gold Coast isn't a league town, is full of people that are too inflexible to support a local team, that all gold coast teams are doomed to failure is being eroded every year.
Children of parents from AFL states are more likely than those of other domestic migrants to embrace the Titans since they won't inherit a rival NRL club allegiance. Key is to purge the fumbling. RL participation is the best disinfectant.

Heaven will rejoice when long-time cave-dwellers emerge blinking into Queensland Rugby League sunshine.

Titans NRLW look a good chance for this year's premiership.

Ben Ikin being CEO of the QRL is a massive boost. His measured take down of AFL Gil last month was fantastic. He is hellbent on structure and pathway programs which will ensure the Gold Coast produces talent for generations. They must not neglect the Sunny Coast though, half a dozen games there a year is a must.

Possibly the best appointment a state league has made in years. Ikin is very driven and showed at the Broncos in a very short amount of time how he can turn around processes. Queensland has already had plenty of promising signs in recent years relating to participation growth, etc and Origin shows their pathways aren't broken, but I can see Ikin building on what is there significantly.

I’d suggest you are 100% correct. Tag in QLD is behind NSW. Watch it grow now.

Crazy to think that Manly-Easts on a Monday Night got 37,981 in 1996

And 27 years later the same two clubs look like drawing 10k

I was there but wasn’t that the first Monday night game or when it still had novelty value? Both teams were top form back then, aids this year plus the ShitCG factor

It was the Rooster's second Monday night that year and the third overall. MNF was done differently back then, firstly it didn't start until after Origin was over, secondly the Rooster's two first matches had a huge number of tickets available at McDonald's throughout Sydney to boost crowds and thirdly it was full of blockbuster games.

It kicked off with the Roosters v Broncos, which was 2nd v 5th at the time, and got 35,075, you then had Broncos v Knights at QEII (5th v 6th), which got 28,600, then of course the Manly v Roosters game, which was 1st v 2nd (not like tonight's match).

It was done well, and was also hyped up by Channel 9 (who actually broadcasted the games)

I hate to think that with some poor crowds lately in Sydney for NRL and all thedecent crowds at the SFS the Female soccer team's might get the impression that the NRL is not popular when in fact we are having a bumper of a season.

Be interesting to see what the crowd split looks like on the GC tomorrow. Titans having a pretty ordinary year but the Warriors hype train is at full steam and there’s tons of Kiwis on the coast, they could outnumber the home fans.
