I’m standing here f**king surrounded by fans waiting to get in all into the stadium, I’ll make sure to let them know that it’s not actually a big deal is we cram 80K of us into the stadium.

I hope you and 80k don't fall asleep before half time

But it literally is big lol. What makes a sport big is how many people are watching it. What inherently makes it not big?

What makes you a sheep for watching the womens World Cup and not when you’re watching say SOO?

Edit: Have fun whining about womens sport finally getting its time in the spotlight, I’ll have a great time at the game.

Hardly surprising that, given Harry O’s expressed views about Hayne, that he holds women’s sport in such low regard.

It makes me feel better making fun of the sheep that watch it bc the media hype it up as something big when it’s not
Well the tv thread has gone downhill quick lol

Ive got no interest in it, as I dont like football, not because its women playing it. Silly to say its not big though, it clearly is going by the crowds and likely tv audiences it will draw. Media will jump on things they think people will follow, Origin a classic example.

I thought we'd squashed that myth when you look at value of cricket and golfwhich go for very long hours! Length of the game doesnt make a jot of difference to subscription rates for PTV.

Nothing is ever squashed just because someone on a forum says so. Longer game = more ad breaks = more exposure for broadcast partners. The ratings gap is going to be in part because people stop watching the longer the game goes on reducing the average viewership significantly - this was noticeable during COVID, and shorter match lengths were specifically noted as one of the reasons for increased ratings in the 2020 season by both the broadcaster and the AFL.

Part of golfs problem is its demographic, part of crickets problem is large parts of its season fall outside of the official ratings year.
