Lmao London produces loads and loads of juniors

when northern union clubs broke away from the rfu they had assets and were established.

And rugby was dominant north of Sheffield

when the nswrl was formed it had zero assets and soccer union and vfl were all entrenched in Sydney and Brisbane

there’s a reason rugby league came out on top here and not in England
do they lol?
Yeh I’ve told you why, pokies and no real competition in two states. How did it fair in the rest of the Australian where there was competition from another code? You have some very rose tinted glasses!
But we digress and are far off topic so I’ll leave you to your delusional thoughts so the thread can get back to tv ratings

They had pokies in 1908 ?

and rugby union soccer and vfl were established before rugby league in Sydney and Brisbane

league took on every other sport and in two years won the battle

in England league did nothing

there were no attempts to set up league outside of Sydney or Brisbane Newcastle

maybe you should read a bit about the history lol

Gateshead we’re doing really well and in typical English rl fashion we’re allowed to die

they weren’t given the same tv grant other clubs were getting

hopefully the falcons owner gives up on union and concentrates on leave as his losses in union are massive
I know it was such a shame as remember they were getting just under 6000 for some games and it was a good day out as you got te Metro back into Newcastle or headed for the coast of South Shields :(

Not enough fans or sponsors and The owners did t have deep enough pockets or a realistic business plan. They couldn’t even survive past one year.I’m not sure where they thought the income was going to come from?
hopefuly one day some rich backer will take over the thunder and build it properly.

silver cloud though it did give us years of fun taking the pss out of hull gatesthunder!

Thunder may only have been in SL for 1 year yet they won 19 of 30 and finished 6th of 14 teams.
They provided 2 players (Matt Daylight & WIllie Peters) for the 1999 Dream Team XIII.

In the process, they unearthed a winger called Brian Carney, had the joint leading try-scorer in Daylight and
Ian 'Chook' Herron kicked 105 goals and was 3rd on the points chart behind Iestyn Harris and Sean Long.

Crowd average was 3895, though, and so they were 'merged' with Hull.

Bizarre as hell that was, but coach Shaun McRae took over at Hull and along with him went the best of Gateshead's squad to start the Hull revival.

Signing players wasnt their problem, paying the bills was. They “merged’ with hull as hull were in financial strife as well and Richo saw them as a more lucrative option. How they got into such a mess in less than one season only Richardson and Kath Hetherington could tell us!

The seasons of both codes are too long., not that I could care less about the other one, they could play till Christmas and I couldn`t give a rats. The NRL should really aim eventually for something like the NFL, short, intense and leave people hanging for next year.
We can make extra viewing with rep rounds and the like if we want more.
What with the cricket and Matilda’s I reckon people are over sport this year. Pretty ugly ratings.

Early game will have had most of nz watching it as it was on fta and in a great time slot

so add hundreds of k more

with the season the wahs have had the nz ratings will be well over ten millon this year and probably closer to fifteen

even with the gather round, the gap between nrl and afl will have only widened a lot over last year
