I couldnt put a value on it myself and Id argue that it depends on how much the pie is worth in the first place. And thats apparently very much dependent on a range of things not the least of which is the skill of the negotiating team. People around here are acting like NRL negotiations take place in a vaccuum or something.
You’ve misread what I wrote. I was referring to future aggregate viewers, not dollar values. Until a 20th AFL team is added, there’s no new timeslot, just the extra games each season. And for those 11 games, of the two sides playing, one represents an area of only 500,000 of whom most were likely existing viewers. It’s the third Perth side that adds the value rather than Tasmania.

Funny that despite all our doom and gloom on the tv rights. The NRL vs AFL gap is only going to widen with more NRL teams and more opportunity for the NRL. AFL would not bother expanding further in NSW or QLD - maybe ACT? The real opportunity for them is for consolidation in SA WA TAS whereas expansion is huge for the NRL - with so many options/time slots (Perth, NZ).

With the VOZ starting in 2 weeks do you know if the ratings are going to be released the next day or like regional 1 week delayed. Should be very interesting as you won’t have to estimate streams anymore.

no changes to current systems.
Kayo is not in VOZ.
Voz is a monthly release

Round 7 Preliminary #NRLtvratings were 5.489m. This is the 4th highest preliminary round rating for the year.

The Dolphins continue to rate well, with Thursday nights clash against Souths drawing in over 1.2m viewers across Nine and Fox, while Friday nights Storm/Sea Eagles game also rated over a million viewers.

Saturday nights Fox exlusive Broncos/Titans game was the best rating game on Fox with 327,000 viewers.

Round 6 Total TV and consolidated Foxtel viewing had a total estmated viewing of 6.057m for the weekend at an average of 780,000 viewers per match. This is just the second round of the season to pass 6 million viewers. So far this season more than 35 million viewers are believed to have watched the NRL on television or streaming at an average of 731,000 per match.

Clearly an appetite for more qld nrl teams

the dolphins themselves should lead to a decent bump in the tv rights

they are ratings gold

fox also benefits from more pay tv games for the club they own indirectly

Ain't it a pleasant change from the past ,crowds seemingly stalled, too many lopsided games, the bunker being the weekend issue, and Tv ratings at times meh.
Wookie's up to date well researched stats are a welcome addition to these forums.
The decision to include the Dolphins has ended up being a masterstroke.

For so long many thought Brisbane would only have two teams. But with the Dolphins based at Redcliffe, the northern part of Brisbane, it has opened the door for a third team representing the western corridor at about a decade's time.

I just posted elsewhere there appears to have been an increase in 10% in participation this year based on team numbers in Brisbane. A lot if this must be due to the momentum created by the Dolphins.
