Stand to be corrected by the resident expert, but I think in previous years Fox League Thursday night ratings were usually 225k-250k.

Something has changed this year with Fox NRL ratings. Can't be related to methods of calculation because the rival code (you know the one) hasn't experienced the same upsurge.

Downside of the NRL success is that it underlines how scandalously rotten and wretched the current deal is.

Collating data is about more than simple maths, it’s easy to manipulate data or use incorrect data. I think that’s underselling what you’re doing.

again , no discernable drop in ratings for another , bleh, clash during origin time
about 1.050 mill when its all counted
very tidy

klanball cleared 1.1 mill probs with the 2 biggest cities in the land involved
Sydneys ratings were ... appalling .. for the Swines , just 41K .. barely any bigger then the crowd hahaha
what sport has nearly half of its viewers .... at the ground ?
niche much
41 years in Sydney and only 41k. AFL is struggling in NSW.

Interesting to see if this massive ratings increase this year translates to SOO at all.
I genuinely believe if we got a good fta operator the origin ratings would get a good bump

or even better fox are allowed to stream it with nine

since nine pay less for the nrl than afl gets from seven they don’t need exclusivity

Best thing about being in nsw or qld is football means league

I was in st Helen’s and I asked them when that footy was on and they got confused
Australians are so limited you call three different codes football lol
in north of England it’s rugby, not your southern shandy rugby union, just rugby. Enough said.

Current ratings seem about the long term average in that graph

so they are picking the peak years as the comparison

Yeah theres a sweet spot beween 2012-2014, ratings are otherwise broadly in line with other years otherwise. Not entirely good - sustained increase in interest would be preferable - but not as bad as the Tele is making it out to be.

Wookie was the "resident expert" I had in mind. Though I do recognize your expertise in devoted observation.
Ratings on Fox League are well up. So are crowds. Any number of reasons. Better games with better rules. Effect of Dolphins. More positivity around the game. That’s a few.
I'm hoping the explanation for the increases lies at least partially in underlying factors feeding through. Things like the rise of female RL and non-contact participation which could be changing perceptions and growing the RL fanbase among previously underrepresented groups. Hence NRL will continue to make headway next year and thereafter.

That’s pretty good analysis and not something I’d thought of. Can’t really add to that. Good stuff.

This coincides with the death of FTA tv as much as anything , as a share % viwership during the game it is easily numb one still & was the first , 2nd & 4th most watched TV shows of 2022

Old drunky pants Rothfield missing the point again
